Ski storage: professional advice
Content
Everyone who has ever gone skiing at least once in their life knows that the pleasure and safety during skiing largely depends on how the equipment was looked after at home, and especially whether ski storage was correct in the warm season. This easy, but responsible business has its own nuances, which are very important to know in order not to spoil the expensive equipment.
How to care in winter?
Having finished skiing, you should bring your skis into a warm room and wipe them dry with a soft cloth, and then put them to dry, only away from batteries and other heating appliances - too much heat can irreparably ruin them. They put equipment with their socks up, and sticks placed nearby.
It is important to ensure that the fasteners fasten well and do not rust, and the canvas is completely dry.
The dried objects are packed in a case or wrapped in a dense fabric with a sliding surface inward, and then bandaged and put in a dry place. The same rules make ski storage the most sparing.
Subtleties of summer accommodation
Contrary to the well-known proverb in the summer, you should prepare not only sledges, but also skis. However, this is true for any winter sports equipment, which in summer, if stored improperly (for example, on the balcony), is threatened by many negative factors:
- precipitation and even just high humidity can provoke rusting of the fasteners and lead to peeling of the sliding surface;
- daily temperature fluctuations are extremely detrimental even to plastic coatings, not to mention wooden ones;
- intense solar radiation also spoils the material and leads to drying out.
Of course, it is necessary to exclude the influence of all of the above factors, for example, a ski storage rack in the pantry is useful. At the end of the season, several procedures are recommended:
- Treat the skis with an ordinary detergent, then wipe with a cloth soaked in ammonia and dry thoroughly, of course - away from heaters. The same should be done with sticks.
- Gently wipe, clean and grease the mountings with special grease to protect it from environmental influences. If there is no lubrication - it does not matter, ordinary petroleum jelly will do.
- Inspect the skis for microcracks and chips, and in case of detection, lightly sand the problem areas with sandpaper and varnish in two or three layers.
- Coat the sliding surfaces with special grease to block access to the porous dust and oxygen material: wood with resin and plastic with paraffin.
- Pack for storage and put in a cool dark place with constant temperature and humidity (pantry, toilet), but in no case on a balcony or loggia.
It is worth noting that different skis pack differently. So, the wooden ones are tied together in two places - at the toe and the heel - and put into spacers, and the plastic ones can be simply tied together and put on the wall in a case or put against the wall with sticks. But the best option would be the ski storage bracket, then the equipment will not interfere in everyday life.
Finally, you should take care of ski boots. The inner boot is removed, washed thoroughly and left to dry, stuffed with crumpled paper or newspapers. The outer shoe is carefully cleaned of dirt, inserted into it is an internal one, pre-packed with clean dry paper, and buttoned.In this form, shoes can be stored until next season.
For those who enjoy extreme sports
Proper storage of the snowboard in the summer implies the observance of several simple rules:
- At the end of each season, it is worth giving the board to the service so that the masters polish it, sharpen edgings and rub it with paraffin. At home, this is not easy to do, in addition, next winter you will not have to think about the state of the equipment.
- Before packing for storage, the snowboard is wiped alternately with wet and dry rags. Fastenings fasten, remove, clean and put into a box, greasing the bolts with oil. However, the board can be stored and assembled.
- The room in which the board will be standing all summer should be dry and cool, because snowboards, like skis, can not tolerate humidity, direct sunlight and high temperatures, from which the equipment can rust, dry out and bend.
Keep the snowboard horizontal to prevent deformation. With a sliding surface down it is placed on any flat surface in the apartment (wardrobe, shelf, bed) or carefully hung on hooks. Do not put other things on the board, otherwise it may gradually bend; if the house has a ski storage rack, it’s worth freeing up some space for a snowboard.
Snowboard boots are prepared for the summer just like ski boots: they are cleaned, dried and stuffed with paper, then packed in a box in an assembled condition and placed in a cool, dry place.
Compliance with these simple rules will allow you not to worry about the state of your snowboard at the beginning of next winter, but immediately plunge into your favorite extreme sport.
