Window Air Conditioners: Design Benefits
Content
Window air conditioning in a plastic window of a monoblock type can be an excellent choice for those who, for financial reasons, simply can not afford the purchase of expensive climate control equipment. This is a cheap option that has its advantages. Its installation is easy to do on your own, without resorting to additional costs.
The principle of operation of window installations
The principle of a heat pump becomes central to the operation of any air conditioning compressor type. When the temperature reduction mode is activated, heat from the refrigerated room is carried out. The main working substances are refrigerants or freons, which can remain in a liquid and gaseous state, depending on temperature together with pressure.
This principle is used by those who create household window air conditioners. Inside, these devices are divided into parts using a sealed partition. One of these parts goes outside, and the other is located inside. The outer part consists of the following components:
- Electric fan motor.
- Capacitor.
- Compressor.
In the inner part, which is equipped with each monoblock, there are approximately the same components: an electronic control unit, a fan impeller for a circulation fan, and an evaporator.
- Gaseous freon is compressed 5-6 times when the air conditioner is turned on. This is the result of the compressor, after which the same freon enters the condenser, where it accelerates to a temperature of 60-90 degrees.
- The capacitor has the form of a flowing coil. Its base is brass and finned copper tubes, due to which the heat transfer surface increases. This contributes to the fact that freon begins to cool quickly and passes into an aggregate liquid state.
- In liquid form, these substances pass through throttle valves. The cross section of the devices is very small. Through them, freons enter the evaporator, passing through a system of tubes. The evaporator is installed inside the air conditioner.
- Inside the evaporator, freons in liquid form appear in a large space, because expansion, if they occur, is rare. At this stage, the liquid becomes vapor.
- In the process of evaporation, heat is very actively absorbed. In this case, a large amount of cold is released, the temperature of the substance becomes quite low.
- Freon is again in the compressor after previous conversions, and the cycle described above is repeated again.
A small window air conditioner and other types of devices inside contain an electric motor with two fan impellers mounted on both sides. Although they themselves are located on the same shaft. The electric motor turns on at the same moment as the compressor.
During operation, the condenser blows around the impeller of the outdoor unit, the mobile version is no exception. For forced air circulation, the impeller is located in the indoor unit. So warm air passes out through the evaporator. Thanks to this scheme, all the air is cooled in the room. Heat is transferred through the refrigerant to the outdoor unit of the air conditioner, but the monoblock still works only in conjunction with other parts.
What additional features do window air conditioners have?
Window type air conditioner is not only for cooling the air. It has built-in additional features that make it easier to maintain an optimal indoor climate. The following features are available to users.
- Most models have built-in touch sensors, an electronic control unit. They help keep track of the optimal temperature level. The same goes for indoor humidity. Air conditioners are now able to automatically turn on or off. It all depends on the settings that are installed in advance.
- A special window is provided in the separating grill in order to provide a ventilation mode. And for this you do not even need to open the window. In the normal position, this window is simply closed. Monoblock can maintain tightness for a long time.
- The damper automatically opens when the ventilation function is used. Then the auxiliary fan motor starts. There are several modes that allow you to set the optimal mode. The mobile device was no exception.
- The evaporator and condenser in these devices are always interchangeable. They are symmetrically connected to other parts of the device. Controlled solenoid valves help set the direction of travel for the refrigerant.
- The internal coil becomes an evaporator if the device is in cooling mode. External, on the contrary, contributes to an increase in air temperature.
When the heating mode is activated, the solenoid valves again distribute the movement of the direction of the freon, only in the opposite direction. The external unit as if takes heat from the street, turning into an evaporator. The internal transfers heat to the room and becomes a condenser. Monoblock air conditioner performs its function.
How to choose the best model?
We give possible tips on the example of models designed to heat rooms up to 15 square meters. The installation of a window air conditioner is becoming an important factor.
Many models may seem similar to each other, but external differences are sure to be found. For example, they may consist in the location of the blinds section through which air is supplied inward. The best choice is top position. It is good if the product will allow adjustment of the air flow both vertically and horizontally.
Antibacterial filters cannot be called a useful supplement. The effectiveness of these devices is reduced to zero after several work cycles.
An equally important characteristic is the intensity of the air flow. The larger it is, the better the flow. Monoblock also affects this.
It is better to choose the products with the smallest weight at the window unit.
What else to pay special attention to when choosing?
There are three characteristics that directly affect how comfortable the air conditioner for the home will be:
- Ways to control the device.
- Noisiness.
- Air distribution. The principle of operation of a window air conditioner in all cases remains approximately the same.
Sliding shutters that direct the air flow are located behind the hole through which air enters. The standard design assumes that hot air moves up and cold air moves down. A monoblock is also involved in this process.
If a window air conditioner is purchased in the lower price segment, then it is likely that the position will be adjusted manually. Some models generally allow the preservation of only one position. In more modern models, adjustment is possible both vertically and horizontally. Some have an electric motor in charge of control. You can find out how to clean a window air conditioner from the instructions.
As for noise, the compressor is more responsible for it, and to a lesser extent, the ventilation units themselves.Piston compressors contribute to the appearance of noise much more than rotary kits, but the difference is not so big, it is only 5 decibels. Manufacturers use special vibration mounts to avoid this problem. The housing can also be partially covered with rubber. How to install a window air conditioner, everyone will easily understand.
It is good if the blades and impellers have a well-thought aerodynamic shape. Then the design is set in motion by special low-noise motors. We clean them using special household chemicals.
Another source of noise is a fan, which works with the aim of more intensive heat removal from the refrigerant. To eliminate this problem, it will be enough to unscrew the plug from the drain valve, then put on the structure a plastic tube that drains the condensate to the street.
