How to install a bath yourself
Content
When repairing the bathroom, sometimes you have to replace the plumbing. Therefore, the question inevitably arises of how to put a bath. Working with this bulky item is very difficult. The main thing here is the correct sequence of actions. Most often, people are interested in how to install an acrylic bath.
How to install a bath
First of all, you need to prepare a place. The floor must be perfectly even and dry, the drain pipe must be free of dirt and dried. Water needs to be disconnected in advance.
Drain connection
Typically, the drain is connected using a corrugated hose, it is very convenient, since it can be pulled out at any distance. If you use plastic pipes to drain in the bathroom, measure the distance to them in advance.
The most important process is the installation of the exhaust pipe. All designs are equipped with an outlet from below, and since the distance between the floor and the bottom of the bathroom is very small, it is very difficult to get to the outlet. Therefore, when installing the siphon, you have to experience inconvenience and you can hardly do without an assistant.
Work execution technology
One person presses the outlet part of the siphon to the drain of the bath, the second - inserts the neck and twists it. For tightness, it is necessary to put a gasket lubricated with silicone sealant between the bottom of the bathtub and the outlet of the siphon on the outside so that water does not pass.
Then connect the hose to the neck of the overflow hole. The technology for installing it is as follows:
- put a plastic nut on the hose;
- put a wedge-shaped plastic gasket on the nut with the sharp end to the end of the hose;
- connect the siphon to the sewer riser using a rubber cuff;
- insert the hose into the elbow pipe and tighten the nut.
Screw the other end of the overflow hose to the siphon, and proceed to screw in the neck. Remember to press the hose firmly against the overflow hole. In order not to overtighten the threaded connections, twist them by hand. Try to minimize bending of the corrugated siphon tube to eliminate the possibility of blockages.
At the end of the work, check the installation: pour water into the bathtub and drain. If it leaks somewhere, untwist everything and carry out the installation again.
Now you need to carry out the installation. There are several ways to install a bath.
Mounting on support legs
This option is the fastest and easiest, since the bath is usually sold complete with legs. How to install the bath on the legs should be described in detail in the instructions. On the legs there is an adjustment mechanism with which it is easily leveled.
Mounting on a metal frame
The metal frame is also often factory-fitted. If there is no finished frame, it can be welded from corners or pipes. Between the frame and the bathroom lay a shock-absorbing layer of rubber. All gaps are closed by polyurethane foam.
Brick mounting
Installation on bricks is carried out if the purchased model does not have a factory frame or legs. Many find this method more reliable. How to install a bath on bricks?
Brick pillow is as follows:
- bricks are laid under the bottom of the bath so that it rests on them with its edges.
- the masonry is adjusted to the shape of the bottom;
- lay bricks on a cement-sand mortar;
- the height of the brick pillar should be approximately 17 cm in front and 19 cm in the back to allow for a slope
- the resulting gaps between the supports and the bathtub are covered with foam.
This method improves stability. A bathroom installed on bricks can be used by anyone, even a very heavy person, without fear that it will bend or skew over time.
Features of installing different types of bathtubs
The technology for installing any model of differences has little. But there are some nuances. How to install a cast-iron bath yourself? When installing it, you cannot pre-install the siphon. This plumbing is too heavy; it is impossible to put it in its place in a limited space.
Typically, cast iron models have special openings for the legs. Therefore, the bath is laid on its side and the legs are screwed. Additional fasteners are not needed. If the floor is tiled, it is better not to put the cast-iron bath on the tile, as the tile may collapse due to gravity.
How to install a steel bath? Its installation is carried out in the same way as acrylic, but there are also small features. It necessarily requires grounding, as it has high electrical conductivity.
Also, steel models are too noisy, so they need to be soundproofed. Since the metal bath is very thin, it is better to make brickwork under it to give stability. Rubber pads should be placed under each foot so that it does not move without water.
Installation of acrylic bathtubs
The most common type of bathtub in homes around the world is acrylic. How to install an acrylic bath? Its installation is not easy, since acrylic is a very sensitive material, and it is easy to damage. It is better not to buy acrylic plumbing in advance, during prolonged storage it can be deformed.
If the model is available as standard, it comes without additional mounts. How to install an acrylic bath? If you bought a model without legs, it can be installed on a brick frame. But it is advisable to buy in an extended configuration, with a frame or legs for installation, a drain-overflow, sets for installation.
The angular design has its own specifics. The choice of brick supports for corner models depends on their shape and features. How to install a corner acrylic bath on bricks? Frameworks from bricks are laid out:
- a triangle repeating the shape of the bath;
- in the form of the letter "P" in the direction of expansion;
- simple monolithic rectangle;
- in the form of two pillars covering the structure along the entire length;
- solid box, which then "put on" the bath. The frame thus installed is very durable.
Knowing how to install an acrylic corner bath, it is not difficult to apply these methods to steel products.
How to install the bath yourself at the right height? Usually it is placed at a standard height, if you decide to make it to your height, you can put it on brickwork and decorate it from below with a special screen.
How to decorate a bath
To effectively use the space under the bathroom, it is better to decorate it with a screen. How to install a screen under the bath? There are many options for screens, there are those that are sold complete with shelves.
Can be purchased in the bathroom design with drawers. But more often they install simple PVC panels, which are sold in specialized stores. This is the most affordable, easy to install option. The design consists of two plastic panels enclosed in an aluminum frame.
Acrylic bathtubs are already sold with ready-made PVC panels, since you can easily install an acrylic bath yourself, and the panels are also attached to them with your own hands. The sequence for installing the panel on an acrylic bath is as follows:
- Mark on the side of the bathroom the middle of the PVC screen mount plate;
- Attach the PVC screen and wrap its upper part between the mount and the side of the bath;
- Screw the mounting studs to the bathroom frame;
- Attach the PVC screen to the bathroom using self-tapping screws.
Installing a bathroom is a responsible process. When installing it, there are many technical points. And if you succeed in installing an acrylic bathtub with your own hands, you will still have to invite specialists to install a hydromassage model.
