Marine interior: bring the sea closer to you

Someone likes to live in a multi-million megalopolis, someone in the mountains or in the jungle, and someone on the sea. What if the sea is far away? Of course, you can settle on the sea coast, but you can, on the contrary, bring the sea closer to you. How? Everything is simple here: you need to create a marine interior in your home. And then every time there will be a feeling that the dwelling is located on the very shore of the sea or on a distant sea island.

What is a marine interior: general concepts

To design a home in a marine style, it is necessary to observe a number of rules. Moreover, it should be noted that despite the available options, these are nevertheless very strict rules, and therefore if they are not followed, then no marine interior will be possible in the dwelling, but an unintelligible cacophony will result. So, an overview of the basic requirements for home decoration in a marine style is as follows:

You need to choose the right paint and color. White, blue-green (aquamarine), all kinds of shades of blue, blue and azure colors, as well as various variations of ocher, are ideal for a marine interior. Such colors give a sense of space, and, in addition, perfectly illuminate the room, making it airy and light.
The entire dwelling should be decorated exclusively with natural wood: doors, windows, floors, stairs, walls, etc. New-fashioned fakes under a tree are by no means unacceptable.
Furniture is also desirable exclusively wooden. At the same time, it is not recommended to furnish the house with all kinds of artsy varieties of furniture art. Quite the contrary - the furniture should look simple, severe and partly heavy. It will be wonderful if the furniture is artificially aged - as if it was beaten by sea waves and in some places corroded by sea salt.
No modern flooring is needed. On the contrary, it is recommended to cover the floors with straw or reed mats.
The same goes for curtains, drapes and curtains. It is very desirable that they were not from new-fashioned materials that can be found in any catalog, but carried an element of the sea and romance. Bamboo curtains, canvas curtains, curtains from fishing nets will be just right.
All sorts of things related to the sea fit very well into the marine style: old chests, models of old ships, stuffed sea fish and birds, shells, stones, pebbles, old rum bottles, etc.
Also, an aquarium with fish or sea turtles will fit perfectly into the interior;
The walls can be painted (the colors of paints mentioned above) or pasted over with wallpaper (photo wallpaper). Wallpaper, of course, should be the appropriate colors, and marine theme is depicted on the photo wallpaper.

It is highly recommended that the design is present retro style. Then the home will have a stylistic and psychological completeness.

How to design separate rooms in a marine style?

Each room in the house has its own purpose, therefore, when designing a room in a marine style, all sorts of nuances should be taken into account. At the same time, one should not forget that, in comparison with other styles, the marine style is quite tough on any modern materials used in the design, but this does not mean that he completely rejects them. So:

In the bathroom, tile (of course, the corresponding "marine" colors) is quite acceptable, from which you can lay out a mosaic on marine themes;
Bedroom and living room. Although these rooms have different purposes, but if you design them in a marine style, then there are many common points. Pillows in the shape of starfish, fish or turtles will look good in these rooms. Perfectly fit in the style of all kinds of shells, sea pebbles, models or drawings of ships. Instead of a modern wardrobe, a “pirate” chest will look more harmonious in a bedroom. Wallpaper (or wall painting) should be predominantly blue and white. In the rooms there should not be excessive variegation and a multitude of all kinds of small things. There should be a lot of light in the rooms. It’s great if the lamps and chandeliers are retro-styled (and have bronze or copper colors).
Kitchen. Wooden furniture painted with white paint is appropriate here. Floors and walls should be bright. It’s great if the curtain on the kitchen window resembles a vest.

In principle, there are two extremes of marine style that can be called "intense" and "gentle." The first style has already been mentioned. As for the "sparing" marine interior, in this case it is not at all necessary to fulfill all the above conditions, but simply to use some marine shades in the home. For example, to paint the walls in "sea" colors, to lay a blue tablecloth, to hang blue-white curtains, to lay out the bathroom with a tile of the color of sea wave. It will also give a feeling of spaciousness and coolness, which means that it is also a marine style in the interior.
