Floor-mounted faucets with shower: elegant designs for a spacious bathroom (20 photos)
Content
Unusual plumbing fixtures such as floor mixers have become more actively used in the last couple of decades. The reason for the development of new models was the desire of homeowners to swim with increased comfort. Now baths are often installed not in the corner or against the wall as before, but in the center of the room, accordingly, special communication wiring techniques were required.
What is a floor mixer?
Such a bathroom faucet looks like a high counter (up to one and a half meters), equipped with a spout and holders for towels and a shower. The device is installed on the floor directly at the bath: at the request of users, either at the feet, or on the side to the right or left. It is assumed that the piping under the floor will be completed during the overhaul. If this is not possible, the pipes are masked along the walls with waterproofing boxes.
The floor mixer for the bath is equipped with 1-2 supports, in which the pipes that are responsible for the supply of hot and cold water are hidden. Like all modern models, such a device is equipped with 1-2 valves, a water consumption limiter, an aerator, and a leakage safety device. There is also necessarily reverse current protection.
The original floor mixer for the sink and shower can have a variety of color and style solutions:
- minimalistic high-tech;
- retro;
- permanent classic;
- Victorian style.
Thanks to the chrome-plated coating, the products acquire a beautiful performance, long service life, and become resistant to mechanical stress. Mixers are very popular, the appearance of which imitates bronze and gold.
Features of installing plumbing
Installing a floor mixer is a very complicated procedure, which involves major repairs in the room. Pipe wiring is carried out until the filler screed is formed and the cladding is laid (usually tiles), professional plumbers are involved in the work. Plastic pipes with a diameter of 25 mm will be needed: gutters are created for them in the floor, which are subsequently filled with mortar.
A soldering iron is used to connect plastic pipes, when the propylene communications are combined with metal ones, special equipment is used as adapters. A concrete screed is laid on top, then - tiles.
Pros and cons of freestanding equipment
Floor-mounted faucets for bathtubs, sinks, showers, in comparison with competitors, have significant advantages:
- simplicity, usability;
- durability and reliability;
- the possibility of decorating the interior of the bathroom.
The disadvantages of the equipment include the high cost of components, in addition, the installation of a floor mixer will also cost a pretty penny. Typically, spacious rooms with a bathroom installed in the middle are found only in high-end housing, therefore, the considered technological solution is available only to users with incomes much higher than average.
Product range
The profile market is flooded with products of domestic and foreign brands, and they all have the following types of mixers:
- with two levers or valves.This is a classic constructive solution for the considered class of plumbing, but it has drawbacks: gaskets on valves quickly fail due to wear and tear, it takes a long time to adjust the temperature of the water jet with both hands;
- a product with one lever is more convenient, since it can be controlled with one hand. The main advantage of the model is the presence of a ceramic cartridge, but if the water is hard, it will need to be changed regularly;
- cascading faucets with showers look impressive, but in practice they are not very convenient. In addition, a mechanism simulating a waterfall breaks quickly;
- thermostatic models are suitable for connoisseurs of a practical interior: temperature indicators are displayed on a mini-display, due to which the regulation procedure is facilitated, there are regulators responsible for economical consumption, an aerator, leakage fuse;
- contactless devices are controlled by a whole system of infrared sensors. This is a very safe solution from the point of view of hygiene, since users do not touch the valves with their hands, and it also contributes to significant water savings.
A separate niche in this category of sanitary ware is occupied by 2 more types of floor mixers:
- Electronic is an improved type of non-contact tap, it allows you to create personal water supply modes, for each of which you can set the temperature and pressure level. Such a solution is not suitable only if there is an increased water hardness.
- Combined floor taps are equipped with an elongated swivel spout; it can be used alternately over the bathtub and washbasin. The model is quite comfortable, attracts with an unusual design, but its moving elements quickly wear out.
What are the columns?
Durable columns that are fixed on the floor in the immediate vicinity of the bathtub or sink are a characteristic interior element that all floor mixers have, without exception. This component consists of 1-2 racks, at the top of which there is a spout, in the same segment of the structure there is a shower head equipped with a hose.
A significant advantage of the presence in the composition of the column can be called the high strength of such a combination, especially when you consider that the plumbing will be operated in intensive mode.
Reliability of components and materials allows fearlessly introducing columns even in expensive interiors, where it is undesirable to carry out further reconstruction.
Possibilities of combining faucets with other interior objects
If floor faucets are designed not only for a bath with a shower, that is, when it is planned to use them for a sink, it is advisable to install such plumbing in the center of the room.
Moreover, the design should easily rotate in the right direction. A potential vulnerability of such a layout could be a visual clutter of space: users will have to be careful when moving between the sink and the bathroom.
More convenient and aesthetic are decisions when floor plumbing serves only the font. The design, used only for washing, will be located at arm's length, and if it is equipped with a single-lever tap, the owner will only need to raise his hand and adjust the water - no unnecessary manipulations.
Often bowls and faucets are performed in contrasting shades, adhering to the general gamut of the room. For example, a column with a spout and a shower head may have a decorative metallic coating, then the bowl and podium are usually made in white. Bronze taps look beautiful, complemented by incrustations of discreet stones or enamel - they become a kind of accent in the design of the bathroom.
Due to the specifics of installation and manufacturing features, the floor mixer belongs to the elite class of plumbing, so when choosing a model and designing a room, it is worth considering that changing the structure or its location will not be easy - you will have to break the finish, dismantle the floor and introduce new communication schemes. If you want to use just such plumbing, you need to think about its connection with other nodes in the room and actually perform it in such a way that the result will please the household for many years and meet their needs.
