Carved wooden beds: we have a royal rest (24 photos)
Content
If earlier only representatives of blue blood could rest on the royal bed, today almost anyone can equip themselves with a royal bed. For example, carved wooden beds are a great option for creating a royal interior. Sophisticated ornate design makes them a real work of art, which testifies to the good taste of the owners and their ambitious outlook on life.
Of course, such a carved bed is unlikely to be appropriate in a modern interior in a minimalist or high-tech style. Noble wood requires exquisite stylization in classical manifestations. Classics, baroque, rococo, and even some modern options - these are the styles that can successfully accommodate a carved bed.
Carved double beds will look great in the bedrooms of a country mansion made in one of the presented styles, and single beds will decorate the rooms of girls who dream of a romantic future.
Special look
It is difficult to talk about any advantages of a carved bed, because in fact it is based on the traditional design of a berth, however, it can be noted that such a bed:
- Looks very refined and stylish;
- has a unique performance (most often beds with carved decoration are made to order);
- differs in long service life (for creation of such beds use solid breeds of a tree which keep the qualities decades).
Of course, such a bed requires special care. It is very important to thoroughly clean all curls and bends, because dirt and dust accumulate in them best. If this is not done, the bed will soon turn into a museum exhibit, and not into a stylish sleeping place. However, one does not have to work with wet cleaning; it is better to stock up with special brushes and tools for treating wooden surfaces.
Performance variations
As mentioned earlier, carved beds are mainly made of precious wood, usually oak and linden. Their wood is best cut and at the same time retains its performance for decades. Special coatings and paints for wood, which the construction market is rich in today, make it possible to achieve different shades of the appearance of wood.
As you know, one of the signs of good taste is moderation, therefore, when making carved details of your bed, you should be guided by this rule. Of course, you can decorate the entire bed around the perimeter, but there are only two of the most popular areas that are suitable for decoration:
- carved legs;
- carved headboard.
If the legs are most often decorated in the form of volumetric sculptures made of wood, then the headboards become a real field for imagination, where the truly magnificent craftsmanship of the creator unfolds. Beautiful headboards sometimes resemble paintings by great masters and become an independent element of the interior.
Art at home
Wood carving as an art originates from ancient times. In Russia, this type of transformation of space has a special history. Many monuments of architecture, decorated with wooden carvings, are still among the cultural heritage of the country.
As a decoration for household items, including beds, use only a few of the most famous options for wood carving, which are worth talking about in more detail:
- flat-grooved thread;
- embossed;
- through;
- sculptural.
All these techniques have many subcategories, which were formed in different schools of masters and in different territories, but they are all characterized by unsurpassed sophistication and skill.
Flat thread
This type of work with wood implies that the main background remains flat, and the carving elements are obtained as if embedded in it. There are several main types of this technique:
- contour carving - only the contour of objects is cut, their main surface is at the level with the background;
- bracketed carving - the pattern in this case is created using notches arranged in different directions in the form of brackets applied with a special tool;
- black-lacquer carving - work is carried out on a surface coated initially with black varnish, thus creating an unusual play of contrasts;
- geometric carving - this technique is based on straight lines and combinations of various shapes that are intertwined into an intricate ornament.
The flat-grooved thread is suitable for decorating the backs and side surfaces of the bed.
Embossed thread
This technique is considered more complex than flat-toothed. Here, the elements are not embedded in the background, but instead rise above it, thereby creating three-dimensional images on the plane. Consider the most popular varieties of equipment:
- flat-relief carving - the background and the pattern are on the same level;
- blind carving - the figure rises significantly above the main background, depending on the height of the ornament, bas-relief (figures slightly protrude above the base) and high relief (figures protrude significantly above the background and become like sculptures) are distinguished.
This type of woodwork is suitable for decorating furniture and exterior items. It will look very nice on adult double beds and on the heads of children's beds. For the child it will be a whole story told in his room, the image can be studied every time before going to bed, always finding something new.
Through thread
As the name implies, in this case, the wood is cut through, most often get rid of the background. The resulting design is filled with lightness, delicacy and airiness. Such a bed made of solid wood will be an excellent decoration of the room of a young girl.
Depending on the tool used, such a thread can be:
- slotted - chisels were used in the work;
- sawn - the background was removed with a saw or a jigsaw.
An openwork back made in such a technique will seem almost weightless and fill the entire surrounding interior with ease. Care should be taken when choosing the background surrounding the bed; nothing should make the created structure any heavier.
Sculpture technique
This type of thread is most often used to decorate the legs of the bed or balusters, with which a canopy or canopy is held above the bed. Volumetric figures are cut out with special accuracy and become independent works of art.
When decorating the backs, they also sometimes use this technique, but the figures then almost completely come out over the general background and begin to live their own lives.
This technique does not have specific varieties, but differs in territorial terms and belonging to the school of craftsmen. Natural sculptures are known: plants, trees, animals and birds; human figures; religious images and battle scenes. This type of skill requires high qualification, therefore, each pattern is executed in only one copy and is considered a real work of art.
Additional design
A distinctive feature of all these patterns is their independence. In essence, they are so self-sufficient that they often become separate elements of the interior.
However, often some ornaments require the right support in order to unfold in full force. So, for example, you can decorate the bed with an air canopy in oriental style or a silk bedspread, which will convey the era of Victorian England.
Children's beds can be painted in different shades, and the two-tier model can be equipped with a carved staircase that will combine the patterns of legs and backs in one composition. Images can also be decorated with metal inserts or some parts are covered with bronze and gilding.
There are options when the thread alternates with soft fabric inserts repeating the upholstery of the canopy or bedspreads. In a word, if it seems to you that the thread does not adequately reflect your views, you always have several options to beat it for yourself.
Of course, carving on the surface of the back or legs is considered the most expensive and truly time-consuming. Only masters of their craft can dare to do this, but their work will certainly not leave anyone indifferent. If financial forces do not allow such an expensive investment, you can always resort to the option when only carved parts are made, which are subsequently superimposed on the head surface. Perhaps this pattern will seem somewhat simple, but it certainly will not lose its aesthetic value. The right choice of image and master will allow you to create an exquisite masterpiece in this technique.
Living in a classic interior is very difficult and costly; it requires a special outlook on life and a special attitude to the world. However, if you decide to take such a step, your entire environment should correspond to the image, and the furniture on which you spend most of your life is no exception. Do you want to sleep royally? Create your royal bed and live in style.
