Island hood: aesthetics and functionality of household appliances (25 photos)

The popularity of island cuisines is not only due to fashion. Of course, the Western trend, which broke the usual stereotypes about the standard layout of the kitchen, played a significant role. This was also facilitated by the fact that modern projects significantly expand the space of the kitchen or combine it with the living room and dining room. After all, placing the “island” in a room from 6 to 15 squares, which were previously assigned to the kitchens, is inappropriate and problematic. But even a fashionable trend takes root temporarily, if it is not practical and functional. The island location has paid off because it is convenient, aesthetically pleasing and rational in terms of ergonomics (fitness) of space.
Island hood for the kitchen
One of the central places in such a kitchen was occupied by an island hood. It performs several functions:
- the main one - cleans the air of food odors, fumes and fat;
- aesthetic - serves as the subject of interior decoration
- additional lighting - almost all hoods are equipped with backlights of various capacities;
- regulatory - the most advanced models are equipped with sensors that analyze air pollution and can be turned on automatically. Almost every modern model has timers, control systems for various processes.
Today, any online store or shopping center offers a fairly wide line of this type of product. The only limitation is that not all models of this series can be bought right away. Most of them are selected from the catalog, and you need to wait a bit for delivery.
Price range
Many experts believe that the island-type hood belongs to the elite segment of built-in household appliances. This statement is currently not entirely true. Today, they are mass-produced by almost all companies operating in this segment. An island hood for a kitchen can cost from 20,000-25,000 rubles, but the latest designer models with many functions can reach prices of 300,000 rubles and higher.
The price category depends on the following reasons:
- manufacturer company. There are companies that focus on this category of household appliances. This is Elica, Faber, Best (Italy), Franke (Germany). The range of island ceiling hoods is represented by almost every company producing household kitchen appliances;
- on power and number of functions;
- box materials, i.e. a visible intake panel.
An island hood differs from traditional models in that it is attached to the ceiling and is a centering element in the kitchen. For this reason, its design is more demanding.
How to choose the island hood?
The range of models on the market allows you to choose a ceiling hood for almost any style and furniture set. The abundance of forms, materials of execution, design solutions will satisfy even a very demanding consumer.
The island hood has several important characteristics that must be taken into account when choosing:
- dimensions of the room;
- style of kitchen and furniture;
- functions.
It is from these categories that you need to build on, choosing an island hood.
The main types of hoods
There are two main types of this household appliance:
- extractors that remove air from the room and provide an influx of new. That is, they perform the function of venting. This type is connected to a specially laid duct. We do not recommend connecting to common ventilation ducts. This is especially important for apartment buildings, where many rooms are connected to one channel;
- the second type is hoods with filters. They perform the function of recirculating air, that is, they purify it and return it back. Grease traps are built into all systems and must be washed periodically. Filters also change;
- combined type. They can be connected to air ducts and work through filters.
From the point of view of capacity, the volume of air is better than hoods with connection to air ducts. Especially when the dimensions of the room are large enough, and therefore a large capacity is needed. This option is suitable for studios.
Optimum suction hoods for families where food is often cooked. With a smaller kitchen, a hood with replaceable filters is quite suitable.
The main types of island hoods in shape
The variety of forms and solutions allows only conditionally subdivide island hoods into certain categories. But among them are:
- domed;
- cylindrical (telescopic);
- designer.
Dome systems are, as they say, a classic of the genre. Such a hood consists of a casing covering the duct and a dome above the hob. This shape is optimal for recirculation hoods.
By stylistic decision, there are classic ones. They are characterized by decorative wood inserts and a shape in the form of a massive elongated dome. Manufacturers are trying to complete the technique with unpainted wooden inserts. Need an island hood white or ivory, just paint these inserts in the desired color.
Round or elongated dome hoods are more versatile models. They are popular, suitable for most styles. The dome box is smaller and made of modern materials, composites, stainless steel. They are practical with a well-positioned backlight and control panel.
Cylindrical and telescopic models are suitable for modern interiors in the style of techno, minimalism. This type is characterized by laconic forms. Used metal, glass, composites. Most of these hoods are connected to the ducts; they (hoods) are quite powerful. These are multifunctional models, most of them are equipped with a remote control.
Design hoods are designed for demanding customers. They are made in the form of lamps or non-standard models. They can be decorated with a variety of additional elements. This category belongs to the elite segment of hoods. Leading designers are involved in the development of such models.
There is a non-standard range of hoods for the island kitchen, which are mounted in the working panel of the table and extended during cooking. They produce folding suspension systems that lower and rise above the hob.
Room dimensions and power
The next important characteristic is the extraction power. It is determined based on the size of the room in which the air will be cleaned, and measured in cubic meters per hour. It must be recalled that if we are talking about combined rooms, for example, a living room and a kitchen, then the total area is taken into account.
Another point to pay attention to: some sources indicate that the size of the hood hood should be slightly larger (10 cm) on the hob area. This is partly true for more dome structures.
It is worth paying attention to one more important parameter: noise level. The more powerful household appliances, the greater the noise. But there are different modes of operation, manufacturers are trying to minimize the noise level.The optimal technical parameter is from 40 to 65 dB.
An island hood is an important element of island cuisine from a functional and aesthetic side. A wide range of products makes it possible to choose exactly the option that is optimal for the stylistic design of the interior and the technical parameters of the room.
