Classic style is a direction that does not lose its relevance. It is always a sign of sophisticated refined taste and can be used to design absolutely any room. A kitchen in a classic style will be an excellent solution for combining comfort, practicality and elegance. No wonder this style is credited with such epithets as “majestic”, “solemn”, because all the elements in it are a single whole of a luxury elite project. Accordingly, the classic kitchen is the most massive part of the room, which sets the character of the entire room. The selection of such an interior item should be given special attention.
The characteristic features of classic kitchen sets
A furniture set in the style of the classic should distinguish such features:
- symmetry and rigor of geometry - despite the fact that the presence of ornate or other patterns is allowed in the classical style, the correctness of the lines must be observed;
- naturalness and high cost of materials - the furniture itself should be made of wood or at least MDF, the finish and countertops can be made of stone, ceramics;
- the presence of exquisite decor - the headset can be decorated with facades with milling, delicate handles or details, stucco molding and other elements.
The only material in the classic interior that can become an alternative to natural wood for the kitchen is MDF.
The choice of form for a classic kitchen set
The kitchen in the classical style involves the use of a headset of any shape.
Wall with an island
A wall with an island is the best way to organize an ergonomic space in the immediate vicinity of the necessary zones. The principle of its structure is a triangle, ideally with a right angle. The vertices of the triangle should be a refrigerator, stove and sink, where one of the last two options is located on the island's countertop.
Headset with a bar
A suite with a bar - a variant of the peninsula is also able to perfectly fit into the classic style in the kitchen. Usually a bar counter is complemented by a corner set.
A rack is a rather functional element that can be used to place a sink, stove, household appliances, and also serve as a dining area. He perfectly divides the space between the combined rooms, if he stands parallel to the direct main furniture, without connecting to it.
Furniture of direct form
Direct-shaped furniture is the most popular option in classic kitchens. It is convenient in that it takes up a minimum of space. The direct form of furniture fits well into the kitchen, combined with the dining room or living room.
Corner headset
The corner set is used in the design of the classic interior of the kitchen much less often. This is due to the fact that classics are organized in spacious rooms, where furniture of a direct form is more appropriate.
The most common option in a spacious room is a design with an island - a spectacular and functional set. In small kitchens, corner walls are often found.
Classic facade selection
All kitchen facades, depending on their design, can be divided into 2 categories: frame and solid. Kitchen furniture manufacturing companies offer these combinations of materials:
- MDF panel with wood veneer trim in the frame of the array - the most common option, because it has the optimal ratio of quality and price. In this embodiment, the texture of the veneer is so precisely selected that it is almost impossible to distinguish it from the array. In cheaper sets, veneer is used only on the outside of the panel, the inside is covered with a laminated film, in expensive types the veneer is placed on both sides;
- panel and frame made of MDF coated with PVC film - a combination of practicality and low cost for classic kitchens. Typically, the relief of the facades is an imitation of a panel and a frame, but at the same time the MDF has a positive quality - it lends itself well to milling. To increase the service life of the facades, they are sometimes covered with a layer of matt varnish on top of the film;
- the frame and panel are made entirely of natural wood - the most expensive option, which can most often be found in luxury kitchens in a classic style. The panel and frame can be made from one species of wood, or from different types. The budget option is to use inexpensive wood with veneer for the same wood type as the frame itself for the panel.
Facades of the middle and economy class in the classical style are usually represented by frame varieties with a panel. They have a presentable appearance, practically do not differ from solid panels, are quite practical to use and have a much lower cost than solid facade.
Pros and cons of classic style kitchen materials
The cost of kitchen furniture will be determined by the type of material for its facades.
In a kitchen, a classic, as a style, involves using one of two materials - solid wood or MDF, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages.
The traditional use of natural wood in the classical style has the following positive aspects:
- environmental friendliness;
- constant compliance with fashion;
- high cost and presentability of appearance;
- the relief and beauty of the natural structure;
- effectively aging;
- It has a long service life with proper pre-treatment.
But the material has several significant disadvantages:
- high cost even when using inexpensive tree species;
- susceptibility of the tree to moisture and significant changes in temperature;
- accumulation of moisture and odors over time;
- the possibility of deformation;
- difficulty in cleaning and intolerance to wet cleaning.
The second variety - MDF - one of the most common materials for the manufacture of kitchens, is also not deprived of a lot of advantages:
- wide variety of finishes;
- reliability, strength, durability;
- safety and environmental friendliness of the material;
- great for milling, the material is able to take any shape;
- there are no problems with leaving, MDF is immune to mechanical influences, is not deformed;
- resistant to temperature changes and humidity;
- has an affordable price.
The disadvantages of this material are minor:
- for true connoisseurs of natural textures, MDF will look like a crude fake;
- if hot air regularly enters the facade, the PVC film or veneer may peel off the surface.
A kitchen made of solid wood will look very expensive and stylish. But the facades of MDF will cost more than half the price of wood, and in appearance they may not differ too much from natural textures.
Details, fittings and decor of a classic kitchen set
Classics in kitchen sets can be expressed in carvings on the facades.Inexpensive varieties are famous for their simple and varied patterns that are applied using milling. When choosing, you need to consider the combination of colors and look at the quality of imitation of a wooden surface. In expensive headsets, you can notice more complex relief carvings on the facade, cornices, columns, pilasters or other parts of the furniture. But in addition to the high price, this decor is also characterized by another drawback: the difficulty of clearing the hollows from the regularly deposited kitchen coating.
Another technique that suits the classics is patination or applying a special composition to the surface of furniture with a gold or silver tint to give the furniture the effect of natural antiquity.
An important detail of the classic style is furniture fittings. Metal brackets or medium-sized buttons fit perfectly into the design. The most popular options are aged handles in bronze or copper, as well as gold, chrome, silver. Pens with ceramic inserts also look good.
A tabletop made of stone in a classic design will look perfect. Elite varieties include countertops made of basalt, marble, granite, budget models include countertops made of artificial material - acrylic, agglomerate. The cheapest and most affordable options are chipboard countertops coated with PVC film, which mimic the texture of wood or stone.
A classic style kitchen set is an element for creating an interior design that will never go out of style. With the rational use of space, the proper selection of materials and the right combination of details, the finished kitchen will be able to serve its owners for many years, delighting them with its aristocratic design and quality.
