Wall decoration with glass decorates the kitchen, as it looks very impressive. However, before that, you should understand the types of panels and tiles and choose the appropriate option.
Advantages and features of glass aprons
An apron for a kitchen made of glass is a wall panel or tile that is mounted in the space between the table and the wall cabinets. They can be decorated in different ways - various photographs and drawings are placed under them. It can be beautiful views, fruits, flowers and many other interesting ideas. This finish provides many other benefits:
- thick glass with photo printing looks unusual and brings comfort. Before mounting a panel or tiles, a client can choose an option that any kitchen unit will look harmoniously with. Height and design are also selected by the buyer, but in the first case, much depends on the type of apron. You can choose an option for almost any style - the decoration will harmoniously fit into the interior with pastel colors or bright walls;
- the thickness of the panels reaches 8 mm., which makes them strong and reliable. Pictures with bright photo printing are placed directly under the glass. This protects them from pollution and damage;
- wall panels are mounted quite simply. Do-it-yourself installation, decor and stickers. The product is mounted in such a way that there are practically no seams and joints. Such a panel is washed and cleaned much easier than ceramic tiles, since in this case there is no dirt between the joints.
Glass finish has only two drawbacks - it is high cost and relative fragility. However, there is also a way out of the second situation - the client can order tempered or laminated glass. It is almost impossible to break it - the biggest thing that remains on the surface is small cracks.
Types of glass finishes
Before installing a kitchen apron made of glass, you should understand what they are. The following options are often offered to customers to choose from:
- mirror panels. This decoration looks unusual and changes the interior, making the kitchen space wider. There is only one minus - when cooking, a person will always see his reflection, and not everyone likes this. The way out in this situation is simple - replace the panel with tile. A feature of this element may be decor, which is a sandblasting pattern and matte finish;
- triplex. This glass, which has several layers at once, the sizes of which can be different. The decor of such an apron can be absolutely anything - green forest, fruits, sea and much more - all this will remain under reliable protection. The fact is that the drawings are on the surface of the glass, which is located between two other glasses. This choice is reliable, but relatively expensive;
- colorless glass. The task of such an apron is not at all the design of the kitchen, but its protection. The finish prevents pollution of the wallpaper or painted wall. Such a glass apron for the kitchen is almost invisible, especially if it has a matte finish.
Glass apron can be any color - green, blue, red and so on.It all depends on the person’s choice and features in the interior of the kitchen. Decor can be absolutely anything - it can be fruits in the picture or photographs, views of the sea and forests and so on. Stickers are placed under the glass.
Mounting Features
Before a new element appears in the interior, it must be mounted. This is done in several ways:
- fastening to the wall with screws. To do this, you need to take four screws, put on decorative clips and then make fasteners. A perfectly flat surface with this method is not required. The selection of decorative clips should be approached responsibly, because otherwise they simply will not fit into the interior;
- fasteners on silicone glue. This method is somewhat more complicated, since the walls need to be pre-aligned. However, it looks more holistically and organically, which is a considerable advantage.
It should be noted that the apron made of glass is installed only if the kitchen is fully repaired. This is important for a few simple reasons. The size of the future apron becomes known only after the kitchen is fully installed. It is important that the sockets, switches and other elements are already in place. Only in this case, when installing the apron, damage can be avoided.
Other types of aprons
Decorate the work area so that it blends harmoniously into the interior. Part of the wall should be such that the kitchen and everything else looks harmonious with it. That is why the selection of panels or tiles should be responsible. If you don’t like glass, there are other options to choose from:
- kitchen apron made of plastic. Such a panel is made of PVC - polyvinyl chloride. PVC, in turn, is made in the process of extrusion - the processing of polymeric substances. The height of such panels is different - from 25 to 200 cm. It can take the form of a panel, lining or thin sheet;
- panel made of MDF - medium density fiberboard. Such wall plates are made of fine chips pressed under high pressure. A kitchen apron from MDF is produced using lignin - an environmentally friendly substance that is safe for human health;
- brick. An apron made of brick has many advantages. This is not only a peculiar and interesting decor, but also strength coupled with durability. The brick is resistant to moisture and high temperatures, practical and easy to care for.
The cheapest is an apron made of PVC. A kitchen apron made of MDF is somewhat more expensive, but at the same time it is safer from an environmental point of view. A stone panel is one of the most expensive options. However, a variety of ideas justify the price.
White kitchen design
White is the most neutral and even soothing. That is why many housewives want the decoration of the kitchen to be snow-white. The apron for the white kitchen can be made of PVC, glass or MDF. Materials such as stone and ceramics are also available. Below we consider in more detail each option:
- ceramic tile. This finish is practical, because you can draw a pattern on it yourself. No less interesting decor is tapestry tile. Its design is done around the edges - these are patterns and ornaments, as well as drawings, for example, flowers or sea waves. Ideas do not end there;
- mosaic is suitable for owners of uneven walls. To slightly dilute the white color, the tile should be made black and white;
- PVC is the most economical option. However, over time, such a panel may deform under the influence of high temperatures. Design needs to be selected directly upon purchase. If the stickers made by photo printing seem ugly and boring over time, then the tile will have to be completely changed;
- MDF - unlike PVC, this finish is quite simple to install.If any part of such an apron is damaged, it can be easily replaced with another. However, the tree is short-lived - from frequent washing, it can deteriorate and look not very attractive. Stickers and drawings will be the solution in this situation, however after this the panel will cease to be white.
The most optimal solution is to finish the working area of the kitchen with a glass panel. This material looks great in the overall interior of the kitchen and visually expands the space of the room. Glass is more durable than wood and stronger than PVC, which indicates its high quality.
