Types of domestic plants: from simple to the most advanced

Almost all domestic plants migrated to our windowsills from distant countries and exotic areas. They need careful care (even those that are considered unpretentious). The main thing is that today you can decorate your home with absolutely any plant. To do this, just visit the store or look at the catalog online. For beginners, before buying, you should look at least a brief overview of all types of indoor "green residents" to understand what kind of plant they need at this particular moment.

Basic classification

All plants grown at home can be divided into two global categories: indoor (grown in the house and can not always be outdoors for a long time) and garden flowers (grow only in the open air). Varieties of home indoor flowers:
  • Decorative leaf. The leaves remain green, and the bush is lush all year round. Only some species need "hibernation";
  • Decorative blooming. Need winter sleep. After flowering, most of them drop most of the leaves and “hibernate”. This is the most popular category of plants for the home;
  • Decorative blooming potted flowers. The vast majority of plants are used relatively shortly. Usually these are tuberous flowers that are immediately utilized after the completion of active flowering. Popular representatives of this category: hyacinths and potted tulips;
  • Cacti One of the most popular categories. Recognized centenarians. Main features: fleshy stems; thorns of various shapes and sizes act as “leaves” of the plant. Some cacti are able to please their owners with abundant flowering. Valued for being unpretentious.
Each type of plant needs special care. Important temperature conditions, the duration of daylight hours, watering. Each plant needs special fertilizing, is prone to specific diseases and is able to demonstrate its best aesthetic qualities if the owner knows the secrets of dealing with a “green friend”.

The main houseplant families

Real live asthenia can not be compared with the artificial green decor. Moreover, there are a lot of varieties of indoor flowers, each of which in a special way is able to fulfill its role as a "green decorator":
  • Ampel plants. Decorative views with curly long shoots. Most often placed in hanging pots, pots or baskets (petunia, sulfinia, geranium, lobelia, verbena, diasia, dichondria, bacopa, fuchsia);
  • Bromeliad plants. Popular greenhouse and indoor plants are distinguished by a well-developed root system, massive large leaves, capable of blooming beautifully and for a long time (ehmeya, non-gheroelia, pineapple, gusmania);
  • Ferns are evergreens that never bloom (pellet, pterus, woodwart);
  • Agave plants do not have a stem or it is very shortened (yucca, agave);
  • Aralia plants are represented by shrubs and artisanal herbs (ginseng, eleutherococcus, ivy);
  • Dracaena - evergreen tree plants (dracaena, cordilina);
  • Liliaceae - bulbous perennials with beautiful flowering (hyacinth, gorortia);
  • Euphorbiaceae occur as herbs, shrubs, and succulents (akalifa, euphorbia);
  • Begoniaceae - perennial herbs with different colors of leaves and flowers (begonia);
  • Crassulaceae - a subspecies of cacti and succulents (Crassula, Kalanchoe);
  • Solanaceae - shrubs, grasses and trees with various leaf shapes and special flowering (nightshade, dope);
  • Homemade palm trees (coconut, date palm, beef);
  • Orchid - one of the most spectacular flowers that require careful care (pleione, bleleta).
This is not a complete list of families whose representatives are loved by connoisseurs of home gardening. There are many other interesting colors.

Plants for an apartment in shape

Another alternative classification involves the systematization of indoor plants according to the shape of a bush, which forms a specific species. So there are the following options:
  • Palm;
  • Shrubs;
  • Grassy;
  • Tree-like;
  • Curly;
  • Shooting
  • Rosette;
  • Succulents;
  • Creepers;
  • Bulbous;
  • Ampels
  • Climbing.
By type of flowering, all indoor plants can be divided into: spring, autumn, winter, summer and those that bloom all year round. Flowering can be plentiful and long or short-term and not pleasing with a riot of colors. Decorating your home with plants is not only fashionable, but also useful. "Green friends" are able to bring a special touch of naturalness and beauty, give a modern city apartment a special cosiness and home peace. They are the main oxygen generators in the house. Some believe that a particular type of plant is able to serve as a mascot of its monastery, bringing money, joy, health or peace to the house.
