What is unique about an oriental bath?

Year-round warm Turkey does not require a very hot bath, therefore, in a hammam it is almost two times cooler than in traditional Russian or Finnish steam rooms (average temperature not more than 60 ° С). However, humidity reaches one hundred percent, and the body warms up well on hot stone shelves.

Steam is softer, but also healing. The bath eliminates toxins and toxins, and foam peeling - one of the hammam's chips - perfectly cleanses and rejuvenates the skin. The microclimate is such that people with problems of the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, liver, stomach can easily visit the bath. As a result, metabolism is normalized, nerves calm down.

The cooling process in the hammam is also not the same as in others. Visitors directly in the steam room are doused with cold water. Public or commercial establishments trust the specially trained people.

How does a hammam work?

In a traditional Turkish bath, air and surfaces (floor, walls, sunbed) heats up hot steam. Its source is a tub with boiling water, taken to the technical room. The rising steam is pumped into a dry, completely insulated from moisture steam room through the channels through the holes. Today, the role of the boiler is played by a steam generator and heating system.

The Turkish bath is finished exclusively with stone: granite, marble, sometimes with inserts of semiprecious onyx, and never with wood. The real exotic of hammam is the churns, special stone bowls with hot and cold water for bathing.

Turkish bath project

The complex technical and engineering complex, which is a hamam, requires a detailed project: with a plan of rooms, steam supply systems, heating, electricity, plumbing in the house. It is optimal to invest in an individual project that takes into account the particular building. These are considerable amounts, but eliminating the mistakes made during the construction will be even more expensive. Especially if you are doing a bath in an existing residential building.

Hammam Lounge

Hamam does not provide for lightweight plastic, only stones of solid weight. Therefore, so that the walls of the house do not collapse under their weight, and the floor does not fail, it is better to calculate the entire "compromise" with a specialist. He will tell you how to make a boor according to all the rules. If you want to build a bath from scratch, a typical option is suitable.

If you decide to do a hamam at home, provide the necessary place. A two by two meter room is enough to accommodate the equipment. The shower room and rest room do not require special execution; you can do with the ones available in the house. The mini-hammam is successfully imitated by a steam cabin with a curved ceiling, the hen will be replaced by an ordinary sink, especially a marble one. The plank bed can be made wooden. Or make a brick table and decorate it with ceramic tiles, mosaics, stones. You can cool in a shower with good pressure.

Mandatory conditions

Regardless of the size and initial data, the design of a modern Turkish bath meets several canonized requirements.

  • A hamam is four rooms: a steam room, a shower room, a technical unit (all equipment is located in it), a rest room.
  • The technical sector is located closer to the steam room, no further than 15 meters. At a greater distance, the steam will cool along the way, and condensate will accumulate on the pipes in the summer.
  • The ceiling, walls, floor of the bathhouse in the house, including wooden, are faced with decorative stone, ceramic tiles, mosaics. A detached building can be made of brick, stone or cinder block and have a similar cladding.
  • A hammam ceiling with a height of at least two and a half meters (preferably taller, up to three) is always in the form of a dome. The Turks legalized this form not only because of beauty: the temperature in the steam room is 30 ° C, and for the steam entering there it is 55 ° C, which causes condensation to form on the ceiling. The domed shape does not allow it to drip onto the floor or head, it flows gently along the walls.
  • There should always be a minimum of + 30 ° C in the hammam.
  • Mandatory ventilation and sewage systems of the bath.

Compliance with these conditions will allow you to build a hammam with high quality, enjoy the atmosphere to the maximum and reproduce real Turkish flavor.

The main stages of construction

The equipment of the “filling” of the prepared premises in a private house includes several operations.

Thermal insulation

It is necessary to retain heat inside the home hamam, so as not to heat adjacent rooms when it is not required (for example, in summer). Any modern technology is good.

Waterproofing

Almost one hundred percent humidity requires high-quality surface treatment with special compounds. A membrane is also used, which is attached to the surface and does not interfere with the penetration of oxygen.

Heating system

It can be water or electric. Water heating in the house is more economical. It can be provided from hot water supply or an electric boiler located in a technical room. If the boiler is double-circuit, an individual circuit must be drawn so as not to heat other rooms in the summer.

When choosing electric heating, much more expensive, pipes or mats are laid on the walls and under the sunbed, and not just on the floor.

electrical safety

Electrical wiring, sockets, switches should be made of moisture and heat-resistant material, and illuminated by the hammam of the house with lamps or ribbons on LEDs.

Steam generator

The "heart" of the bath. It creates steam necessary for a hamam, controls its quantity, circulation, temperature, humidity. The basic options are complemented by more expensive models with systems of preliminary water purification, automatic draining, containers for aromatic oils. It is installed in a technical room, and the steam enters the steam room-hara through special pipes. It is selected in accordance with the dimensions of the room. It can be equipped with a control panel.

Ventilation

It happens stream or forced. Pipes lead to the place of the former window. The air exhaust pipe must be stainless steel, sealed, with a condensate drain pipe. The most popular supply and exhaust device. In a room planned for a boor house, two vents located opposite one another are designed. With a multi-level system, they are made at different heights.

Stone sunbed

The main attribute of the harara steam room. As a rule, the pedestal is placed in the center, its dimensions are 80-90x120x210 cm. A hot lounger is a multifunctional place:

  • to receive a delicious foamy procedure, which is possible exclusively in the hammam;
  • complete warming up of each joint or muscle;
  • massage table for a heated body.

The interior is complemented by stone benches, small in width, installed along the walls.

Kurna

This is what special bowls are always called for in Harare.Traditionally, they are stone, there are at least two of them, with cold and hot water for bathing. Infusions of herbs and massage fluids are also poured into them. Today, especially in a private house, only one kurna is allowed (it can even serve as a round sink) with two taps installed above it. Kurna is not connected to the sewer.

Decor

The classical material in the design of the hammam is marble (the bed is made of a monolithic slab). But this is a very expensive option, available to few, so it is often replaced with ceramics. Finishing with such tiles is much cheaper, but it does not negatively affect the quality. Mosaic tiles made of small fragments are ideal for laying out an oriental ornament. The hammam is equipped with a glass or wooden door.

The construction of the bath, even in a partially prepared room, is very expensive. It is worth pre-evaluating your financial capabilities, including designing a project, specialist services and the costs of subsequent maintenance.
