Finishing materials from wood are very popular today. Eurolining, imitation of timber, blockhouse are used for decoration of expensive restaurants, respectable cottages, offices, cafes, boutiques. Houses, hotels, motels are being built from logs and glued profiled timber. The wooden house has a special microclimate, and the soft, pleasant color of the wood relieves eye strain, does not tire, and has a comfortable rest.
In rooms decorated with natural wood, the ceiling should correspond to the general style. For this reason, the lining of the ceiling is made by lining, this material can be used in all rooms of the house, except for the bathroom. This room has high humidity, which only yew can tolerate. The best option in the bathroom will be a plastic lining on the ceiling, imitating the texture of natural wood.
Choose a lining for the ceiling
Lining is traditionally used in the country, in a bath or sauna, in recent years, this finishing material is used in the interiors of cottages and city apartments. Widespread facilitation of simple laying of lining, reasonable price and a large assortment. Manufacturers produce products from the following types of wood:
- pine - has an attractive cost, beautiful texture and soft color with a hint from pink to tan;
- spruce - the cheapest lining, ideal for painting due to the inexpressive texture and faded color;
- larch - is characterized by high strength, a characteristic red-brown tint and original texture, tolerates high humidity;
- linden - soft wood with a pleasant pink-golden color.
Rarely, you can find on sale products made of oak or ash, from which you can make a beautiful ceiling from the lining in your office or home library.
In the interior, you can use a lining with a different profile, the most common is the lining, characterized by the presence of an elongated spike shelf. Such material is best used in the country or when lining the ceiling of the attic. It forms a surface with characteristic grooves, which by style is not suitable for every interior.
Especially for ceiling cladding, manufacturers have developed a “calm” lining profile, a feature of which is the absence of a shelf at the spike. When using it, the ceiling of a wooden lining becomes solid, with virtually no visible joints. This allows you to use the material in the interior, made in any style.
Of particular importance during interior work is the color of decoration materials for the ceiling. An important advantage of lining is the ability to paint it in any shade. When using stains and impregnation, the texture of natural wood is preserved, using paint, you can create monochrome panels of the desired color. It is better to use acrylic paints that allow the wood to breathe, which makes the microclimate in the room as comfortable as possible.
Many designers prefer to use the lining on the ceiling, painted in white. This helps to visually expand the space, add light to the room. In houses created in the Alpine or castle style, you can use the lining of a natural shade.It is enough to cover it with colorless varnish, which will make the texture expressive and keep the color of the lining as long as possible, which can change under the influence of solar ultraviolet light. An original solution is the use of beams on the ceiling, which will help to divide the room into zones and give respectability to the interior. Lining is used with beams made of timber or polyurethane.
The lining is divided into grades, if it is planned to surface treatment with transparent or translucent varnish, then preference should be given to products of higher grades. Will the lining be covered with an opaque layer of paint? Use panels 2 and 3 grades, their cost will fully compensate for the costs of paints and varnishes.
Mounting the lining on the ceiling
Do-it-yourself lining of the ceiling is available to every home master. For work, you need a simple hand tool, a building level. The greatest difficulty is the laying of the crate. This question is most difficult for residents of urban apartments and home owners, in the construction of which reinforced concrete floor slabs were used. In this case, the tool kit will need to be supplemented with a punch and drill bits for concrete. The lining of the ceiling will begin with the preparation of holes for installing anchors that will securely fix the crate to the reinforced concrete slab.
A block of 20x30-30x50 mm is used as the material of the lathing; it is parallel to each other at a distance of 60 to 100 cm. On the ceiling, the lining does not experience mechanical or impact effects, so this interval can be increased compared to wall decoration. Significantly less trouble when lining the attic ceiling with clapboard. There is no need for a crate, its role is played by the rafters of the roofing system, located at a distance of 60 cm from each other. A similar situation can occur in the country or in a frame house, where the installation of lining on the ceiling is carried out on the floor beams.
The horizontal lathing is checked by the building level, after which you can proceed to laying the lining. There are two main ways how to nail a lining to a crate: nails in a groove or using special clips. Both methods are effective, but with fasteners, costs are slightly increased. The advantage of the clips is a more convenient installation to the ceiling.
Nail the lining with thin nails 25-40 mm long in a groove at an angle to the crate. When mounting with clips, smaller nails are used. After installing the first panel, a spike of the second panel is inserted into its groove, which is knocked out to the stop and nailed to the crate. The skill of how to lay a lining appears quickly and you can sew up the ceiling with minimal time.
How to lay the lining with respect to the length of the side of the room? When using panels with a calm profile, you can use any option, and when installing euro-lining it must be laid so that light from the window falls along it. The question may arise: how to dock the lining along the length? You can hide the joint with the help of special “fungi” or by installing beams.
In which rooms is the ceiling of the lining relevant
The lining of the ceiling is used with clapboard in all rooms of the house or city apartment. The main areas of its application are hallways, bedrooms and children's rooms, classrooms and home libraries, verandas and dining rooms. Lining is less commonly used in the kitchen, especially if there is no hood in it. In this case, you can pay attention to such material as aluminum lining, which fits perfectly into the interior of a modern style. In the attic, all rooms are lined with lining; in the country house, you can also give this material at the mercy of all the rooms.
Designers do not always agree with the installation of lining in the living room, unless, of course, we are talking about a hunting lodge or a cottage from a profiled beam.At the dacha, the ceiling of the living room can be faced with any clapboard, but in the city apartment it is necessary to use only "calm" white. Such a ceiling is suitable for the interior of any style, with the exception of high-tech and modern. You can give the lining a white color with any paint, and if you want to imitate bleached oak, it is better to use impregnation of this shade.
The use of lining on the ceiling allows you to create a beautiful atmosphere in any room. Wood is an excellent regulator of air humidity and for this reason there is always a high level of comfort in the room lined with this material. Any home craftsman will cope with the task of how to sheathe the lining of the ceiling. This will significantly reduce repair costs. During operation, the lining does not require regular updates; it is enough to coat it with varnish every 10-15 years. Caring for the ceiling is very simple - using a damp cloth for several minutes you can get rid of dust and this will be enough.
Which lining is better for the ceiling? It does not have to be material from expensive wood. The desired shade can always be given by impregnation, and at a height it is extremely difficult to distinguish treated wood from natural wood. Most manufacturers produce calm lining from pine and this product is the best option for use in any interior.
