The quality of water largely depends on the depth of the structure, because in hot weather it must have time to cool. To enhance the cooling effect, you can lay out the bottom of natural stone or add some fragments of stone. Even the sound of cold water is very different from the sound of warm water. This must be taken into account both at the summer cottage and at home.

When creating a project, the experience of landscape designers from other countries can also be taken into account. What are the main differences in Japanese style? The complete lack of symmetry in everything. Always apply combinations of discreet color palette, the harmony between naturalness and restraint. All forms are concise and accurate. Even Japanese-style water flow patterns have their own classification. It can be tape or drip. To realize this with your own hands, you need considerable experience. But the Japanese-style implementation is technically no different from the Russian style. Pond construction

We cover waterproofing on the compacted surface of the future pond. It can be done by applying an ordinary dense PVC film. The edges of the film are carefully laid out on the banks and pressed with elements of the future decor from stone. Most often this is a natural stone that was excavated during the construction of the cottage.

For a more serious design, it is necessary to concreting the bottom with the preliminary manufacture of the supporting frame. This design is no longer for small waterfalls, and not everyone can create it with their own hands.

And where is the waterfall?

In order for the water to fall, it is necessary to raise it. Therefore, in front of the main pond, we should have a small decorative pool from which the water will flow. Structurally, it does not differ in the pond, but it is much smaller and is located higher.

A stream of water can break through stones in several places and at different levels, and can flow smoothly from an upstream tank.

Technology system

On the technical side, the implementation of the project does not cause difficulties. It is necessary to organize the supply of water to the upper tank, and collect it from the lower pond. Water circulation can be adjusted using shutoff valves.

Illumination of a pond with a waterfall in the dark can also enter the technological part. Backlighting is easiest to do with LED sources with enhanced light output. The LED voltage is safe even for fish swimming in the pond. It is desirable that this backlight was visible from the windows of the house.

The intake part of the water should have a small filter with a sump, because insects will enter the open water (especially if there is a backlight), and it is better to filter them out.

Making a cascade waterfall with your own hands is not difficult, but waterfalls with even three cascades are rarely found in nature. Japanese-style design welcomes one cascade. And most often the design of the waterfall is made of natural stone.

Winter waterfall

The arrangement of such a landscape project is more complicated than the usual summer one. What are the differences in the winter version? The effect of negative temperatures on water is known to all. But maybe not everyone knows that low temperatures do not just freeze water, but cause pipes to burst.In the winter version, the water should be replaced with a non-freezing fluid or the waterfall should be in a winter garden with a positive air temperature.

It’s also possible to create a waterfall in the winter garden with your own hands, but it will require much more expenses than in the open summer cottage. An artificial garden always brings high costs at any time of the year. In the winter version, you can limit yourself to creating a structure of glass. The use of glass is used by many designers.

Safety precautions
