Types of gates

Hinged door installation

A swing-out gate is a sash that rises up with the help of a special roller mechanism and is located on top parallel to the floor. Typically, these gates get ready, they can be installed independently.

Do-it-yourself swing gates can be installed by yourself. This will require:

• door leaf;
• corner 40x40 and 35x35 with a thickness of 4 mm;
• steel pins;
• electric drive;
• channel and steel bar;
• spring with a diameter of 30 mm;
• wooden blocks or profile pipe for the box and for the ceiling.

The leaf can be made of boards upholstered in tin. Insulate with foam, the face of the gate is finished with plastic or wooden panels. Before you make a decor, evaluate the conditions. If the garage is located in a remote, unguarded territory, it is better to make the coating anti-vandal.

To install the gate you will need:

• welding machine;
• electric drill and grinder;
• set of drills, hammer;
• wrenches, screwdriver, construction level.

Before starting work, determine in detail the design of the gate, as well as take measurements of the required sizes and apply them to the drawing.

On the drawing, indicate the dimensions: height and width, the location of all the necessary elements and parts.

After the preliminary stage, you can proceed directly to the manufacture of the gate.

From the prepared bars or profile pipe, mount the box. For its fastening, iron plates or squares are used. Place the box in the opening and secure, for example, using pins.

Assemble the sash. First the frame is made. If it is made of metal, welding is required. If corrugated board is taken as the main material, it is attached to the frame using self-tapping screws.

Assemble the swivel mechanism. In it, the bracket will become a support for the spring. The spring and the bracket can be connected using the adjustment spring.

The hinge assembly is made from a corner with a hole with a diameter of 9 mm. The corner is fixed by welding.

To make guide rails, two corners are taken. Their shelves are welded so that the distance between the upper parts is 50 mm.

Installation of guide profiles is being carried out. The door leaf is inserted into the guide profiles. Connect with levers and springs that drive the web. Installation of gates on counterweights

Swing garage doors open with a silent lever system. No rollers or guides are required to open them. This type of gate is easy to make with your own hands. The design includes three main elements: a box, a rising sash and a mechanism that drives it.

The entire system is mounted on a box installed in the doorway. Guides and springs are responsible for moving the gate (they serve as a counterweight).

For door sheathing it is better to take galvanized steel. Its service life is several times longer than bare steel.

Preparatory work in the opening begins with the installation of the frame in the opening. It can be made of bars or profile pipe. After making sure that all four parts of the frame are correctly positioned, without skew, attach it with anchors to the walls. All cracks between the frame and the walls must be foamed.

It is possible to equip the door lifting system with an electric drive with a remote control. Automatic gates will cost more.

Things to consider when installing a door yourself

When installing a hinged door yourself, consider some important details.

• The guides installed on the ceiling must be strictly horizontal. Then the gate will open without jamming.
• Compensation springs can be tensioned with different strengths. For this, a special adjusting device is used.
• Safety restraints must be placed on the frame. In the event of an unexpected breakdown, the sash will not fall suddenly on the car.
• An additional strength to the frame will be given by its penetration into the concrete screed by 2-3 cm. The total weight of the sash should not be more than 100 kg. This is the optimal weight for long and reliable gate operation.

Price of overhead swing gates

The price of the construction depends on the material of which the gate leaf is made, the size, the type of lifting mechanism, as well as the type of automation, if it is used to open the gate.

Do not chase cheapness. Avaricious pays twice, this saying will be just the way here. An inexpensive mechanism can be short-lived and will quickly fail.

When calculating the dimensions of the gates yourself, take their width with a margin of 0.5 m on each side. With a vehicle width of two meters, the gate width must be at least three. The door height is also calculated with a margin. The average indicator of this parameter is 2-2.5 meters.
