Famous species

Dogwood trees and shrubs came to us from temperate regions: North America, Europe and Eurasia. However, all types of dogwood, and there are more than 50 of them, are well mastered not only in temperate climates, but also in the surrounding territories. Gardeners and professional designers have their own collection of dogwood trees with which they work. These are the most beautiful and spectacular plants, planting and care of which are minimized and consist of crown formation and periodic irrigation in a drought.

Unpretentiousness

Each of the species does not require special cultivation or care, it consists in planting in open ground, irrigation and periodic formation of the crown:

  • the first year until the bush grows stronger, regular watering is necessary;
  • in 2 years of life, the plant needs watering only 2-3 times a month (if the year is dry) and crown formation, i.e. Derena haircut, which is held in February – March.

White and red derain are beautiful not only during flowering and summer. He also paints the space with bright colors in the fall and especially in winter, when against the background of a white bedspread, bright red trunks of red derin light up.

The shoots of red derren are a special period, because they are brightly colored branches in green, crimson and yellow tones, and a combination of several types of dehren in a certain sequence creates an amazing 3D color carpet.

Soil erosion control

Derain in landscape design is involved in the creation of interesting compositions that adorn home gardens. Shrubs can also be planted on rocky steep slopes. A strong root system inhibits erosion and helps maintain a balance of nature.

Exquisite in its simplicity, the dehren bush is a waterfall shrub 1.5–4 meters high and 2 m wide. The plant enters force quite quickly, 3 years after planting. From the third year of life, plantings are framed by a small crown, which can be gradually shaped. Trees are planted at a distance of 2-2.5 meters from each other, shrubs - 1.5 m.

Karantus or variegated derain in landscape design is used for landscaping the land part alone or in composition with other species and varieties growing above 2 meters. Highly growing species form a crown, but since tree trunks are located at a distance of 2-2.5 meters, they form holes that can be filled with a low-growing ornamental shrub. For this, a variegated species or Canadian derain is used. Moreover, the care of the hedge is minimized and requires only pruning to create an aesthetic appearance.

Another plus that is important for harmonious growth is that trees and bushes do not jam each other. The derain plant prefers to live in partial shade, which is especially important for low-growing varieties used in groups with tall ones.

Derain is used as a living fence on its own or in a group. The high survival rate of dogwood allows it to be planted next to tree species that release tarry oils and powerful antibacterial esters around it:

  • coniferous;
  • cypress;
  • rhododendrons;
  • juniper bushes.

Watering

Regular watering for an adult dogwood tree is not needed. The main thing is to organize watering while the tree is adapting. If the sowing plant occurs in September – October, then the seedlings are watered only 3 times: when planting (8 liters), after 1 day and after 4 days (control irrigation). In the spring, when drought occurs, watering should be continued. In the second year, watering can be limited by maintaining a minimum amount of moisture (only 4-6 times a month in a drought).

If planting is carried out in spring, then watering is carried out 1-2 times in March – April, and in May, when the weather is hot, watering should be increased and continued throughout the summer.

In spring and autumn, when the soil around the trees is loosened, fertilizers are applied. It must be mineral supplements or organic.

Pruning

The main care for white derain consists in the initial formation of the crown and watering in dry weather. Initially, the tree is trimmed when planting only in height. In the future, care consists of trimming old branches and new shoots that get out of shape. Pruning is carried out starting from 3-5 years of life, every spring or autumn.

Breeding

Trees are propagated by all possible species:

  • By cutting - cut branches in the spring are stuck in the ground and watered in drought. After 2 months, the branches take root and continue their own growth;
  • With bones - since the tree does not require grafting, the sprout made from the seed turns out to be a full-fledged tree, though this is the longest way to propagate;
  • Rooting - propagation of derene by the method of instillation of the lower part of the branch in spring or autumn. Only young shoots of no more than 2-3 years old are suitable for this. Six months later, you can transplant the stalk.

Decorative derain is a favorite plant of many gardeners. Its berries with a characteristic sour-tart taste are used for cooking and medicinal purposes. The simple beauty of trees and shrubs, variety and unpretentious care allow you to create unique compositions that change their appearance and color at every time of the year.
