New Year is not only a festive table and a bright picture on the TV screen. This is a warm homely atmosphere, gifts under the tree and the expectation of a miracle. It’s easy to create a festive mood with your own hands - just decorate the windows that will immediately turn your home into a fairytale castle. We have put together several ways to decorate windows, choose the best and get down to business!
New Year's pictures on glass
Many people remember how, in their childhood, they painted snowmen on glasses with New Year’s toothpaste or even gouache paints. Decorating the smooth surface of windows with pictures is very simple, it is important to choose the right tool and “paint”. We will talk about several options for drawing.
Sponge and toothbrush
This method is not new; our mothers also remember it. You will need a toothpaste diluted with water, a brush or sponge for washing dishes, as well as a stencil with New Year's theme. Templates can be prepared with your own hands - find the right pictures on the network, print them and cut out of paper with a knife or sharp scissors. Stencils need to be applied in a selected place and distribute the paste along their slots. Instead of toothpaste, you can use tooth powder diluted with water to the state of liquid sour cream.
It is convenient to apply the paste with a piece of moistened foam sponge. If you spray the paint mass with a brush, you get a dull surface. Christmas stencils can be placed in the center of the glass, as well as from below, above and around the edges. Those who know how to draw patterns are not required to use - you can create a picture right by hand. This decoration is easy to wash off, just wipe the windows several times with a damp cloth, and then wipe dry.
Paper motifs and paste
To design the windows, you can stick on the glass cut out of paper lace motifs. For example, snowflakes can be done by everyone with their own hands. And if you dream a little, instead of snowflakes you can cut Christmas trees, snowmen, Christmas bells and funny animals. It’s a bit more difficult to make a composition - to cut out a winter landscape with a house, snow-covered Christmas trees and Santa Claus in a sleigh. For intricate patterns you will need patterns and a sharp wallpaper knife.
All this splendor must be glued directly to the glass with a paste. The paste is made from starch brewed in water. It is applied to the paper motif with a brush, glued to the glass and excess adhesive is removed with an absorbent cloth.
Tip: It’s better to apply a little less paste than to grease the parts too much.
Glue, film and a little patience
This method allows you to make glass stickers yourself. In order to create figures, you need PVA glue, a film file and a paper template. You need to attach the drawing to the file and outline its contours with glue. The glue should dry for 10-12 hours, and only then the finished motif can be removed from the film and glued to the glass. Stickers created in this way are perfectly attached to a smooth surface and have an unusual convex relief. If the sticker does not adhere well to the glass, lubricate it with water.
Ready-made stickers
There is another method - decorating windows with the help of ready-made drawings. By the New Year, stickers appear in stores that are very easy to fix on a smooth surface. It can be a huge composition that will cover the entire area of the window. And you can pick up a few small motifs by placing them in the corners. Then they can also simply be removed without worrying that the glue will leave traces.
DIY garlands
If you don’t like the idea of sticking something on the glass, the New Year’s windows can be decorated with garlands. This method will also give a festive mood. The main thing is to choose the type of garlands and beautifully fix them on the windows.
Garland of cotton balls
You can make a cute garland with your own hands from simple and cheap materials. You need to take a thin fishing line or a strong white thread. Roll a ball from ordinary medical cotton wool and string it on a fishing line. Then do the next, put it back on the fishing line. At the same time, it is desirable to separate each ball from neighboring ones using knots. You need to make some of these decorations. The length of each garland of balls can be different - the threads look spectacular in length equal to the height of the window, or a little shorter. Then fasten the garlands on a rope stretched between the slopes of the window or on the ledge.
To make these garlands more fun, you can add “rain” threads to them, or you can intersect a fishing line with cotton balls with Christmas toys on a thread. These threads are very light, they will move even from a light draft. You get a warm window that will remind you of snowfall and soft snowdrifts.
Mini garlands of voluminous snowflakes or Christmas balls
On New Year's Eve, in schools and kindergartens, children are taught to cut and glue paper snowflakes. You can make several of these snowflakes with your own hands and hang each one on a thin fishing line, preferably of different lengths. It is not difficult to fix these decorations in the window openings - they can be hung on a rope, or can be fixed directly on the cornice. Similarly, you can hang Christmas balls or cones on long threads. Such pendants look very elegant and do not require complicated preparation.
The farther the garlands are from dark glasses, the more spectacular this decoration will look. The result is a panoramic effect that will create a festive and slightly mystical atmosphere.
Garlands of light bulbs
And for the New Year, you can highlight the window with colorful lights. Today, not only standard garlands are on sale, but also products in the form of a grid with bulbs. Such a "rug" is easy to stretch to the entire window opening. However, remember that the light from the windows will be clearly visible from the street.
Illuminated paper panoramas
This is a new way of decorating windows; it will allow you to create incredible panoramas with your own hands right on the windowsill. However, this method takes time to prepare. You will need scissors, glue and several sheets of thick landscape paper that need to be glued together. Get two stripes equal to the length of your windowsill. Then you need to pick up stencils with a festive pattern and apply them on paper. Suitable templates in the form of a forest of Christmas trees of different heights, Christmas houses with cut-out windows or snowmen. Cut jewelry better in the form of a continuous ornament.
The most difficult thing is to fix the finished stencils on the windowsill so that there is a small distance between them. You can use foam rubber or a flat box filled with sand. It is important to fix the paper decoration in an upright position. Then between the two cut out patterns hide a garland of light bulbs. When evening comes, the included garland will highlight the pattern, creating a panoramic picture. Such windows will be the highlight of any festive interior.
Window decoration with improvised materials
I don’t always want to come up with some complicated designs, cut out stencils. To clearly celebrate the New Year and create a festive mood, it is not necessary to spend a lot of time preparing the entourage. Sometimes it’s enough to decorate the window opening with improvised materials. For example, you can put a small Christmas tree, a figure of Santa Claus and a candle on the windowsill. And you can build a composition of branches, candles and Christmas balls with your own hands.
You can decorate windows in different ways, the main thing is to do it with love and inspiration. And then the New Year will be remembered for vivid impressions, and preparation for it will instill in the soul a sense of celebration, the expectation of a miracle that will certainly come true!
