Recently, it is believed that experiments with apartment design are allowed only for professionals, and it would be better to adhere to an established tradition: the ceilings should be white, the walls light, the floor dark, fewer accessories, more style and compatibility. A dark ceiling in the interior is considered an unjustified risk. Its ability to visually reduce rooms, making them lower, is considered uniquely negative. However, with proper use, it can look very, very advantageous.

When is the dark ceiling justified?

A dark ceiling in a room can be made in several cases that fully justify its use.

Before you make a dark ceiling in the bedroom or a dark ceiling in the bathroom, you need to remember simple rules that will allow you to do this without prejudice to the design.

Ceiling height

It is believed that if the room has a low ceiling, this automatically means that it is better not to use dark shades at all.However, this is not entirely true.

If the room is tall and narrow, you need to use warm shades that visually make it lower: a brown ceiling or a tree in this case will fit perfectly, and the effect can be enhanced by painting the walls and walls with the same color.

If the room is low and wide, you need to use cold shades that resemble the night sky: a gray ceiling or black suspended in this case will work best.

Frames and Zones

If the use of dark colors causes uncertainty, you can compromise and use them only partially. With a light frame, the ceiling in a low room will look good, which needs to be done visually higher. Ceiling texture

When planning to make a ceiling in a room, you need to remember that different ceilings look different in different ways. A stretch ceiling in the interior is appropriate in those cases when you need gloss and the ability to reflect - it will look best if it is a cold shade. A wooden ceiling is appropriate if you want to achieve coziness and visual reduction. Decorated with plaster or paint is suitable when you do not want any frills.

Lighting

Point sources of light should be avoided - they will make the room visually darker. It is better to buy a large chandelier in the center of the ceiling and put bright lights in it that can make the room cozy and welcoming, despite the dark stretch ceilings.

The general style of the room

Dark stretch ceilings are well suited for Gothic style, art deco or classic.

You can use dark-colored furniture in combination with a dark ceiling and dark walls - it can also be stylish in its own way, the main thing is to think over everything in advance and not get the effect of a dark basement.

Using the same principle, use light-colored furniture in combination with a dark ceiling (it can be stretch ceilings or wooden, it does not matter) and walls, then it will look contrasted and attract attention. If you use furniture of light colors in combination with light walls - then the room will seem spacious and low (or high, depending on the shade).

You can make the floor dark, and if the effect is too gloomy, put a light carpet on it.

What should not be done?

In addition to the rules, there are also absolute contraindications for the use of dark shades. Just as stretch ceilings are not always appropriate, so black is not always suitable. You should not do them if:

• There are no windows in the room or they are too small - otherwise it will seem dark and gloomy or you will have to keep the electric light on all the time, which is bad for your health.
• A small child will live in the room - otherwise the baby will feel depressed and unhappy, he may even begin to experience depression.This is due to the fact that children are always more sensitive to the environment than adults.

Caution should be taken when installing:

• The room has a low ceiling - only cool shades will do.
• The room is tall and narrow - then you may need to expand it additionally.
