Brightness depends on the installed diodes, on their size. The larger the size of the LED, the brighter it shines. The most commonly used LEDs are SMD 3528 (size respectively 35 × 28) and SMD 5050 (LED size 50 × 50 mm).

Pay attention to moisture protection. The tape can be open and protected (sealed) with a silicone coating, which prevents the ingress of moisture to the elements that conduct current. If the tape is protected against moisture, then it has an IP marking and the corresponding digital value.

The density of the diodes. The higher it is, the brighter the glow will be. In accordance with the standards, the tape can be single-row with a regular or double density with 60, 120, 240 diodes per meter or double-row with a double density with 30, 60, 120.

As the material used:

• Styrofoam. Very light skirtings are made from it, but polystyrene is not used for floor lighting due to its fire hazard.
• Tree. Wooden skirting boards are very expensive and prone to fire.
• Metal. The most fireproof option, but such skirting boards are quite expensive and can only be mounted on straight walls. The aluminum skirting board is more suitable for high-tech style and is created with special recesses for LED strips.
• Polyurethane. It is one of the optimal materials for profiles. It hides bumps well, is suitable for curving walls, has a good price-quality ratio. A combination of polyurethane and aluminum is often used.

The floor skirting board for illumination differs in design from the ceiling. It is a cable channel and a snap-on cover.The lid should be made of a transparent material that diffuses light.

Additional materials

In addition to LED strip and fillet, power supplies, controllers, connectors are required. A connector is required to connect an electrical circuit without a soldering iron. Controllers are needed to change the brightness of the backlight and its color. A power supply or voltage converter converts the voltage of 220 volts of a conventional outlet into 12 or 24 volts needed for diodes, protects the electric circuit from power surges.

Installation

Do-it-yourself lighting of the skirting board is quite possible, unless it is planned to change the wiring or to make the communications from the electrical panel.

Before you make a backlight, you should measure the room and calculate the footage of the LED strip. Then determine the power of the entire circuit based on the density of light bulbs per meter length. Power strip per meter is usually indicated on the LED strip. You just need to multiply it by the number of meters needed for the lighted room and as a result you will get the power of the power supply, but it is better to purchase several power supplies.

Choose a power supply, controller. If there are several tapes, then for each tape an additional power supply is selected. The tape is sold at 5 meters, the standard width is one centimeter, the thickness is 0.3 mm. It is flexible and consists of equidistant LEDs. The power required for the bright glow of the LEDs is 12-24 volts.

The tape is connected using the power supply. To limit the amount of direct current and to prevent burnout of the electric circuit in the tape there is a resistor. The power supply must correspond to the sum of the power of all LEDs. If it exceeds 50 watts, then you need a large power supply, which will be difficult to hide. It is better to use a few small blocks. The brightness, color of the backlight is adjustable using the remote control.

If you plan to insert a monochrome tape, then it is directly connected to the power supply and to the network. If there are several colors of diodes, first connect the controller, and then the LED board. After assembling the tape, all solder points must be insulated with a heat shrink tube, which will help not only insulate the electrical connections, but also make them durable and strong. There comes a time to check the circuit. It is plugged in, and if everything is fine, then proceed to installation on the ceiling baguette.

LEDs can be placed above the baseboard, in the technical gap between the baseboard and the ceiling. In this case, you can use the cheapest fillets, only so that they are not afraid of a temperature of +60 degrees.

The skirting board for the ceiling is better to cut and fit in the corners, but they are not fixed butt, but so that there is a gap of at least 50 mm wide above the top edge. The profile is mounted at a short distance from the ceiling. Skirting is better to fix on a layer of plaster or on a concrete surface, and not on wallpaper. The gap between the ceiling and the top edge of the baguette should be 60-70 mm.

You should first dock the skirting boards and cut them in the corners. The place where the cornice will be located is pre-cleaned, treated with a primer. The fillet is fixed with liquid nails or planted on self-tapping screws.

The LED strip is easy to attach. On the reverse side, it has an adhesive base closed by a protective strip, which is removed before attaching. The tape can be easily cut so that it matches the fillet in size. The area for gluing tapes is primed with special means even before the installation of ceiling profiles.
