About decorative plaster

But such a universal coating has a number of disadvantages, which include low vapor permeability (hygroscopicity), therefore it is not recommended for decoration of kitchens and bathrooms, drying time (the process can take at least 12 and more than 70 hours, depending on air temperature and humidity level), as well as an insufficient degree of strength, which leads to mechanical damage when the plaster comes in contact with foreign objects. Therefore, it is better not to use the material for decoration of premises in which a large concentration or movement of people is supposed.

In any case, the silk version of the plaster has more positive qualities than negative ones.

Preparatory steps for finishing with textured material

First of all, you need to decide what type of material is supposed to work, as it can be decorative plaster “wet silk”, “smooth silk” or “draped”. Before applying the material to the walls, one should consider their type (they can be concrete, brick, metal, wood, etc.)

If the walls are concrete and plastered, you should:

• assess their condition for peeling on the surface in order to eliminate them in order to evenly coat;
• remove wallpaper present on the walls (other decorative elements), process, dry and prepare the surface for a new coating;
• eliminate clearly visible stains on the walls, this can be done with a primer and paint in light colors.

Moreover, the packaging with this building material is accompanied by detailed instructions for its use.

The stages of work are as follows:

1. the contents of the package in the required amount for application onto one wall is poured into a plastic container and diluted with warm water in the indicated volumes, if desired, glitters, nacre or other additives are often sent there, which are often attached to such plaster;
2. all components are thoroughly mixed, you can do it by hand;
3. Kneading should be done in advance (12 hours before use), before applying to the surface, the mixture is mixed again, if necessary, water is added to it;
4. apply the plaster in the direction from corner to corner using a spatula (trowel), to maintain the desired thickness, the tool is held at an angle of 10-15 °;
5. some prefer to work with their hands on gloves, and if you do not subsequently smooth the applied plaster with a tool, then the resulting relief pattern will look more advantageous, richer;
6. after completion of work, after some time (within 2 hours) the treated surface is smoothed to eliminate bumps with a spatula periodically wetted with water.

If we are talking about plaster with a larger texture, then its consumption per square meter increases.

Fine-grained plaster can be applied using a spray gun, which saves on material consumption, but this method is quite complicated, because it is usually used by specialists.

Above are the general rules for working with decorative plaster, although there are some differences between the application of classic, crushed and wet "silk", but they are insignificant.

When all the walls are finished, the remains of the plaster can be collected in a small container and frozen to preserve its properties, they will still come in handy during local repairs (if the silk layer is damaged).

How to apply plaster when repairing damaged areas? To do this, it is enough to remove the damaged fragment by first wetting it with water.Then, diluted plaster is applied to the problem area and smoothed (the process is similar to that indicated earlier).

Small dirt can be removed using a regular eraser. But you should not wash the decorative plaster with water, since the liquid simply “dissolves” it.
