The use of such good finishing material as veneer is again in trend. If forty years ago most of wooden doors, ceilings, piers were sought to be sewn with plastic, nowadays plastic is mainly found in public places, in offices, and not the most prestigious ones. The use of wood and its imitation is again becoming popular in the manufacture of floors, doors, and other interior items.

Today, more often than before, you can see the doors made with the use of veneer and with the base of solid pine.

What is veneer?

Some believe that such a coating is only outwardly similar to wood and is not natural, while others confuse veneered doors with doors made of laminated particleboard, claiming that there is not much difference between them.

Veneer is a very thin layer of natural wood. Depending on the method of its production, it may be:

  • peeled;
  • planed;
  • sawn.

The peeled veneer is the result of processing the wood mass on a machine of a special design, with the help of which a thin cut is made from the source material. This veneer is not of the highest quality. As for the planed veneer, this is a more valuable material, as it has the best texture quality. Both planed and peeled veneers are used to make high-quality veneered (veneered) furniture. Sawn veneer, obtained mainly by sawing conifers, is most often used in large-scale production of budget-class furniture from solid pine.

When a product (for example, chipboard) is veneered, then a thin sheet of veneer is glued to it from one or both sides. Plywood can be both single-layer and two-layer.

In addition, experts classify veneer and depending on the direction of cut, naming it at the same time:

  • radial
  • semi-radial;
  • tangential;
  • tangentially face.

In each of the four cases, the veneer has a special pattern of annual rings, which can be either almost parallel stripes, or in the form of cones and curved lines.

Thus, veneer is a completely natural product. Its main advantage is that this material retains a unique textural pattern inherent in the source wood, therefore even the MDF doors coated with veneer cannot be distinguished from ordinary wood doors.

Today you can buy not only veneered oak wood doors, but also veneered veneer doors or maple veneered doors, white veneered doors, but veneers can also be made from trees of more exotic and expensive species.

Oak materials have always symbolized strength and durability, so they, as well as any variations thereof (both textured and color), continue to be popular.

As a variant of the color scheme of this tree species, bleached oak turned out to be especially popular today. There are many interior solutions based on its application. So, for example, a laminate in the color of bleached oak is combined with almost any decor.

Which door is better: veneered or PVC?

The answer to the question of which doors are better depends a lot on where these interior doors are used. So, for example, it is possible to install veneered doors in the bathroom instead of PVC doors, but only if they are covered with waterproof varnish. In other cases, veneered interior doors made of wood look more appropriate.

What are veneered interior doors?

The frame of the interior doors in those cases when high strength is required from them may not be from the usually used solid pine, but, for example, from natural oak, or veneered metal doors can be used as high-strength veneered doors.

Doors look beautiful in the interior, with glass inserts. Real "aristocrats" among the entrance structures are veneered doors with stained glass inserts. Doors with glass open up completely new possibilities when performing zoning of space. The external attractiveness of such interior doors in combination with their presentability makes it easy to fit such door designs with glass into many modern stylistic solutions.

Another noteworthy option for interior doors is paneled interior doors. The frame of such a panel door is usually made of a solid bar made of solid pine (but sometimes also of glued beam) and consists of the following parts:

  • top part;
  • two side parts;
  • the lower part, which, as a rule, is made wider than others.

The panel itself is a decorative insert in the door leaf, thinner than the door frame. It is often used in interior doors. In fact, a panel is a small sheet of plywood, a piece of board inserted into the main door leaf.

Thanks to this simple technique, it is possible to create interior doors of an unusual shape, to make their appearance more original, especially if you add glass inserts to the overall design of the door structure. A panel for veneered doors can become a center that focuses on the decorative properties of the entire interior door or on some of its individual fragments.

Using the right choice of panel material and its shape, you can “fit” the interior doors into the general style of the interior. Volumetric patterns and convex decorative elements may also be present on the panel. In the manufacture of custom veneered interior doors, they can be made of various shapes and sizes, as well as of materials that will be determined by the desire and imagination of the client, as well as the capabilities of the manufacturer.

When choosing doors with veneers, remember about their main advantage: that they have a truly natural coating.And if you really strive to create an atmosphere of comfort in your home - buy these very doors because they are beautiful and practical.
