Herringbone parquet laying: procedure (26 photos)

Piece wooden parquet (some parts of which are also often called dies, rivets and just parquet), will probably be considered one of the most beautiful environmentally friendly floor coverings for a long time, which can last for many decades when used correctly. This material will be a great choice for you if you decide to use it in any living room: in the nursery, in the living room, in the bedroom. On a pleasant tactile and always seeming warm surface, parquet floor owners often like to walk barefoot. Due to the low coefficient of thermal conductivity, parquet prevents the spread of cold from the base on which it is laid, even if it is made of concrete. Piece parquet, possessing many positive qualities, constantly attracts the attention of a large number of buyers.

Even the parquet floor, which has lost its original luster and brightness of colors, can be easily updated by grinding. And after covering it after such restoration work with varnish, you will protect it and improve its aesthetic qualities. Due to the strength of the strips and the multidirectional arrangement of wood fibers in the parquet flooring, along with the hardness, the stability of the dimensions of the floor from the parquet is provided.

Piece parquet is a hypoallergenic building material that does not contain harmful chemicals. In addition, it also has antistatic properties, due to which dust does not accumulate on the parquet floor, which can cause allergic reactions in both children and adults.

The parquet floor has soundproofing properties. And when moving around it there are no unpleasant noise effects, such as hum or crackling, like on a floor covered with a laminate.

Parquet laying options

Using various ways of placing elements of this building material, selecting the texture of the tree and using the tabs, you can create real art masterpieces with which you can decorate your apartment or house. However, the development and implementation of unique compositions is a very difficult task, which, as a rule, is only for professionals.

At the same time, using even many traditional well-known methods of laying parquet, you can achieve an aesthetically attractive appearance of the floor in the interior of almost any home. Next, we consider several fairly simple, from the point of view of implementation technology, methods for placing parquet strips (without the use of inserts), which nonetheless make it possible to obtain a beautiful and durable flooring.

Christmas tree

This type of layout got the name of the Christmas tree due to the fact that the rivets of the parquet are located by the Christmas tree, that is, in such a way that each plate represents a spruce branch or its paw. The herringbone flooring looks impressive and has high stability, since the load in this case is evenly distributed on the flooring, and, therefore, the appearance of cracks is unlikely. The disadvantages of the Christmas tree include only some complexity of the installation process of the coating, but it is felt mainly only by those who are engaged in such work for the first time.

A Christmas tree laid out using dice differing in color and texture looks much more interesting.

French tree

Parquet "French herringbone" is often also called a ladder. It is a little more difficult to lay it than when placing the dies with a simple Christmas tree, since in this case they need to be cut obliquely at an angle of usually 45 °, but sometimes the parquet planks are cut at other angles, for example, 30 ° or 60 °.

Although such a layout does not provide the strength and stability inherent in an ordinary Christmas tree, but the floor laid with such technology looks extremely impressive in a modern interior, including because such a pattern is very rare.

Deck

When using the “deck” layout, the boards are glued sequentially with mixing with respect to the planks of the adjacent row. In this case, depending on the algorithm by which the plates of the parquet are shifted, three layout options are distinguished:

  • symmetric;
  • diagonal;
  • chaotic.

In small rooms for the deck, it is better to use a diagonal layout, which can visually enlarge the room.

Vietnamese

This popular pattern, often used today for laying parquet, is obtained by mounting dies of several pieces in squares, each of which is successively rotated 90 ° with respect to the other four surrounding it.

If, for example, dark wood planks are used in all squares with vertical orientation of parquet plates, and light wood in the rest, then a covering similar to a chessboard can be obtained. It is believed that the Vietnamese, like the deck, is able to expand the space. Among its other advantages - resistance to deformation. True, some apartment owners believe that such a design is unnecessarily simple and straightforward.

Herringbone parquet laying

Before you begin, you must acquire:

  • tape measure;
  • nylon thread, cord or fishing line;
  • electric heater (if the room temperature is low and there is no heating system);
  • rubberized hammer (for tapping);
  • a construction stapler (or nails / screws);
  • special knee pads (to protect your knees from excessive stress);
  • glue;
  • roller for coating parquet;
  • spatula;
  • Putty specially designed for parquet;
  • primer;
  • parquet varnish.

It is also necessary to ensure that the air temperature in the room is in the range of 16-25 ° C, and its humidity is in the range of 45-60%. At the same time, the moisture level of the base (subfloor) should be less than 12%.

It is under such conditions in the room that it is necessary to withstand at least a week before laying piece parquet. The base on which rivets will be mounted must be solid, dry and even. Its roughness will cause additional loads on the parquet dies, which will lead to premature wear. Laying on a flexible and wet floor is prohibited: parquet deformation is possible.

The best option is laying the rivets on a base covered with sheets of plywood.

How to lay a Christmas tree on a base covered with plywood?

  1. Before you begin, make sure that you have acquired an equal number of “left” and “right” rivets. They differ from each other in that if they are positioned vertically and face to themselves so that they have a crest at the top, then the “left” die will also have a crest on the left side, and the “right”, respectively, - on the right.
  2. In the middle of the room, stretch the nylon thread to the length of the entire floor, which will serve as a future reference.
  3. Take two parquet dice and connect it with the Christmas tree, inserting the crest of the long side of one of them into the groove on the short side of the other. Previously, all joints must be coated with glue.
  4. Using a spatula, coat with glue also the plywood base in the place where the first assembled pair of parquet floors will be located: namely, directly under the stretched kapron thread.
  5. Press the planks against the plywood base to squeeze out excess glue and remove excess immediately.
  6. Fix the strips with nails / screws (or brackets using a construction stapler), driving them either into the groove or into the comb of the die at an angle of 45 ° and recessing their caps. In addition, each parquet floor length of 40 cm should be fixed in at least two places.
  7. Lay the rest of the slats, each time smearing the base on which they will be attached to the width of each die with a layer of glue with a thickness of one to one and a half millimeters. When working, you need to move along the nylon string and build the first Christmas tree, which will be the basic structure, and the rest of the parquet floors will dock to it from both sides.
  8. After creating the supporting Christmas tree, begin to fix the parquet flooring to the right and left of it, gradually expanding the laying area until you reach the walls.
  9. Fill bottlenecks near walls with cut-to-size dice.
  10. Insert wedges between the wall surface and the ends of the rivets to ensure a clearance of about two to three millimeters.

When applying planks and inserting their combs into the grooves, always finish the connection with a rubber mallet or a regular one, but through an adapter in the form of a piece of parquet.

What else needs to be done after the installation of the parquet is completed?

  • After completing the installation, you need to wait about three days and grind the parquet at least two times.
  • Putty the cracks (if any) with special parquet putty.
  • Prime the parquet floor;
  • Coat it with varnish to give shine in at least three layers.

When performing putty, primer and varnish, always consider that it is necessary to give time (indicated in the relevant instructions, but usually equal to one day) to dry the parquet before proceeding with the next technological operation.

So, you completed the installation of the Christmas tree parquet! Install skirting boards and enjoy the beauty that you have created with your own hands.

Current technologies make it possible to mount a herringbone flooring, both of a conventional format and an enlarged one. A clear geometric pattern and wood texture can add sophistication and charm to the design of almost any interior.
