Round sofa - a functional model for the bedroom, kitchen and living room (22 photos)
Content
The round sofa breaks all the stereotypes about the classic interior and is able to change the appearance of the living room or bedroom beyond recognition. The non-standard form of the sofa dictates certain rules when choosing it. Unusual furniture can make a room exclusive, but it also easily makes interiors tasteless, if the layout and design were not thought out in advance.
Features of choice
To choose the right round sofa model, you must first determine its dimensions. Round sofas for the living room and bedrooms are large and compact. The latter, when folded, can accommodate no more than two people, and when unfolded, they have a berth with a diameter of 2 m. The berth of large models usually varies between 2.0 m and 2.5 m.
Experts say that for a large sofa you need a room with an area of at least 25 m², for a small sofa the room should be at least 20 m². If you put a round sofa in a small room, the room will look cluttered. For the same reason, the rest of the furniture should be carefully selected for round models. There should be a little furniture, and it should look easy, unless it is the aim of decorating a room in the Baroque or Art Deco style.
A round sofa is a central element of interior design and is not placed close to the walls. It is logical to conclude that this model is not intended for small apartments of the Soviet period, unless major redevelopment was carried out in them. But for country cottages and modern apartments, a round sofa model can be an ideal choice.
Functional characteristics and methods of transformation
Both large and round small sofas are available with a transforming berth. Round models differ in their design and are:
- modular;
- monolithic;
- transformers.
Modular sofas are more functional, they consist of sliding blocks. In the daytime, mobile units are placed indoors as additional seats and a coffee table. Such models do not have a flat berth and are uncomfortable for constant night use. Modular sofas will be the best choice for small living rooms, when the bed is used in a one-time format for overnight guests.
A monolithic round sofa has a stationary main part, so it looks more respectable, but occupies a large area. This model can not be put in a standard bedroom or small living room. But the sleeper has a flat surface compared to modular sofas and transformer models.
The round convertible sofa fits perfectly into the spacious bedroom. A berth is not as comfortable as in monolithic models, but more successful than in modular, compound sofas. Between themselves, transformers differ in the design of the mechanism, which can be:
- roll-out;
- folding;
- half.
A round pull-out sofa bed is the most popular transformer option. The base of the sofa rolls out from under the stationary part of the seat. Turning into a bed occurs quickly and without physical effort. A model with this design is suitable for children's and adult bedrooms, living rooms.
The round sofa bed with a folding mechanism is comfortable, the berth is flat, the joints are almost not felt. The transformation takes place with the help of a folding back and parting sides. The folding transformer is suitable for living rooms and bedrooms. It should be borne in mind that it is more difficult for a child to cope with the folding mechanism in comparison with the roll-out design. A folding round sofa on a metal frame is considered more durable. Models with wooden bases wear out and break faster.
The round sofa bed with a half mechanism belongs to modular models. The mobile halves of the couch join together to form a sleeping place. Half-transformers are rarely used for sleep, only for guests, and they are equipped with living rooms.
Filler and Upholstery
The quality of sleep is affected not only by the method of transformation of a round folding sofa, attention should also be paid to the filler of the soft part of the selected model. The seats of any sofas are made either on the spring block or with PPU filler (polyurethane foam). True, unscrupulous manufacturers sometimes use furniture waste as a filler, but since a round sofa belongs to the premium class and is not cheap in principle, we will not consider such an option.
If we compare the PUF filler and the spring block, polyurethane foam is significantly inferior. The berth on the springs adapts well to the contours of the body, quickly restores shape, is durable, but this is the case if the seat is made according to a system of independent springs. If one spring fails, this does not affect the appearance of the sofa and the comfort of sleep. If the manufacturer chose cheaper technology, and the seat is a unit with springs connected to each other, then failure of one spring will lead to sagging of the soft part, creaking when pressed, discomfort in a dream. In this case, PPU filler will be the best choice.
For upholstery, manufacturers of round sofas use leather or furniture textiles:
- Upholstery tapestry.
- Jacquard material.
- Flock - a type of furniture velor.
A round leather sofa is expensive, but striking in its respectability at first sight. A little cheaper is a round sofa bed with faux leather upholstery and newer material - eco leather. Faux leather is not inferior in durability to its natural counterpart. Faux leather is more gentle to the touch, but less resistant to deformation. If animals live in the house, it is better not to choose eco-leather. A practical option in this case would be a model with tapestry or jacquard upholstery. In addition, textiles belong to breathable materials, and if you plan to use the sofa as a bed, it is better to choose it.
Round sofa in the interior
The round sofa bed has the disadvantages:
- takes up a lot of usable area;
- it’s hard to pick up finished furniture in a store;
- non-standard form implies the manufacture of bedding and accessories to order.
Despite the disadvantages, round sofas are becoming more popular, and designers are offering consumers more and more new and original models. In modern apartments and private buildings, round sofas are used in children's and guest bedrooms, living rooms, halls, dining rooms and even kitchens.
A round sofa has an advantage over traditional linear sofas. You can put it in any part of the room, having shifted the recreation area at will. The round model looks great in the center or placed at an angle. Since the round sofa is not placed close to the walls, the space behind it is decorated with elegant floor lamps and floor vases. Additional design should not distract from the main detail of the interior - the round sofa, so all accessories and the rest of the furniture should be soft shades and concise lines.
Owners of suburban cottages can be imaginative and decorate arches with bay windows and multifaceted facades. In buildings with a rounded facade, the installation of an arcuate sofa will save space and will allow you to gather a huge number of guests in one place. The round-shaped corner sofa is especially popular for kitchens and dining rooms with a non-standard facade or bay window indoors. In these cases, a round sofa does not carry the function of a bed, but built-in furniture for a bay window is made to order only.
A round sofa in the kitchen of a modern apartment should have more compact dimensions. Designers offer models with traditional rectilinear backs at an angle, leaving only the soft part of the seat round. Such a sofa at the same time saves space and gives the room an original look. It is also convenient to set modular sofas with a swivel mechanism. Such models are transformed into the desired form, depending on the circumstances. In the kitchen, materials wear out and get dirty faster, so for the kitchen it is more practical to use natural or artificial leather as upholstery material.
Radius soft corners, as furniture experts call rounded and arc-shaped sofas, give an opportunity to create non-standard interiors and show individuality in the design of your own home.
