Carpet from a cord: simple knitting technology (61 photos)
Carpets made of polyester cord have recently been quite popular, although this type of needlework is only a few years old. In addition to the obvious decorative advantages, such products are optimal in density / stiffness, they hold their shape perfectly and are easy to clean, so they can be placed in any room in the bathroom or in the living room.
The use of a synthetic material - polyester - makes the rug voluminous and original, more visible against the background of products, for example, from acrylic, cotton or other threads.
If you have even small knitting skills, you can knit a simple rug, and with deeper knowledge, you can knit embossed carpets.
Embossed Oval Carpets
On the Internet, you will find many options for the manufacture of such rugs according to various techniques and schemes. The choice of a specific knitting option will depend on your idea.
A carpet from a cord can be made both without a pattern, and with a specific pattern according to the patterns - these will already be embossed oval carpets.
Such a rug can be crocheted or do it yourself from a linen, hemp or linen cord. The number of threads will directly depend on the desired size and thickness of the product.
To knit a rug of medium size and density you will need:
- a cord (about 5 mm thick) about 800 meters long (for a product with a diameter of 1100 mm);
- knitting hook No. 5 or 6;
- rug execution scheme (you can use a picture of any napkin).
The cord is best purchased at a major hardware store. The number of threads here will directly depend on the size of the carpet. If the rug involves the presence of a large number of volumetric parts, then you should take a larger cord. The weight of the finished carpet in this case may be more than three kilograms.
Most often, when knitting according to the pattern, relief carpets are created. Their implementation is more laborious and requires special knitting skills, but if you take a simple scheme, then a beginner can also master it.
When increasing the diameter of the carpet to 2300 mm. it will take about 2200 meters of cord (the weight will also increase).
The oval rug from the cord is knitted according to an individually composed pattern (it is better to take a round napkin as the basis).
The difference here will only be that:
- at first, not a ring is knitted, but a chain with rises (VP) with knitted crochet columns (CCH) on both sides. Further on the same principle.
- on the sides of both faces you just need to knit CCH. At the ends - knit semicircles, where each row should alternate with an even viscous and semicircle. The result should be an oval-shaped carpet, the length of which will directly depend on the length of the chain of lifts.
- to create the central part of the carpet, there is no need to type a chain of air loops, you can simply wind the end of the cord around two fingers, then remove the loop and knit inside it the desired number of columns.
In the classic version, the first row is approximately 20 double crochets. Further - according to the scheme. Due to the fact that the last row, as a rule, is made with a pattern, the rug from the cord will take on a clear shape resembling a flower. Giving the product a semicircular shape is achieved by knitting half the required amount (CCH), then the fabric is rotated, knit with a lift and the second row is knitted. That is, straight and return rows fit.
A square carpet can be knitted using the “grandmother’s square” method: from simple double crochets and air loops.Aesthetics are achieved here by combining and changing the colors of the cord.
A large product can be knitted by patchwork. First, several square bases are knitted, which are then sewn together.
Material and product care features
A polyester cord is a material made of synthetic fibers, mainly made of polyester. Its main qualities are strength and resilience, that is, the mat connected from it will stretch and contract a little, without deforming at the same time. Also, the finished product will have high qualities of moisture resistance and softness.
Such material is great for knitting carpets and rugs, paths, bags and other products that can be washed in a machine or manually at a temperature not exceeding 30 ° C. Finished products need to be dried on a horizontal surface, fully deployed.
Thus, whether it is a simple rug or complex embossed rugs - knitting such products is also wonderful because in a short period of time you will see the result of your work. This motivates beginners and inspires the craftswomen to further build.
