Industrial style in the interior of the apartment (20 photos)
In the middle of the last century, factories began to move outside the city limits in America, and the vacant industrial buildings turned into residential buildings. So there was an industrial style, which is also often called the loft style. Initially, not rich people settled in industrial premises converted into housing, now this style is considered to be elite, although even today designing a room in a factory spirit is not too expensive. Knowing the basic requirements for interior decoration, home decoration, decoration and lighting, everyone can turn their home into an apartment in a loft style.
Signs of style
The industrial style in the interior can be of two types: natural, when the correspondingly designed premises are actually located at the former enterprise, and artificial, when the building had and has a completely different purpose (residential, public). In the first case, to give the room the proper look, it’s enough not to hide the pipes, stairs and other structures characteristic of factory buildings. In the second, such architectural elements are created artificially.
To do this, you need to very well imagine what the industrial style is and what its main features are:
- A large space, not cluttered with anything superfluous, with a complete absence of walls and a minimum number of partitions. The presence of elements of industrial architecture: hoods, pipes, steel partitions, large windows, metal stairs, steel, concrete or brick walls, wooden doors, beams and exposed floors.
- Use in interior decoration of natural materials, brick, concrete, glass and metal. However, they must be unprocessed, matte or artificially aged. The color scheme is cold tones: all shades of gray, white, black, indigo. It is acceptable to use a beige-brown scale. Vibrant colors can only be present locally for color accents.
- Large windows, better with frosted glass. Curtains are not welcome. To create a cosiness it is possible to use the Roman curtains. Artificial lighting, which is of particular importance in interior design, is represented by a large number of loft-style lamps. Chandelier or wall lamp can be in the style of retro techno.
- Graffiti, posters, collages from black and white photographs are used as decor in interior design. You can use things as if brought from the street: road signs, lights, posters. There must be at least one vintage item: an old typewriter, a rusted bicycle, an inoperative engine, a table lamp with a metal lampshade, rude work of a raw wood chandelier, or something else.
- Furniture made of natural materials or steel: metal cabinets, safes, wooden shelves, open shelves. Instead of shelves, you can use the stairs, ladders. Armchairs, chairs, sofas fit simple, modest, without decoration, made of wood, metal or leather. Great options are to use a large red leather sofa in the interior design, a varnished wooden chair with brushed metal armrests.
Loft style does not imply a rejection of everything cozy. Living in the premises of former factories, people sought to create a homely atmosphere in them.A vintage piece of furniture, for example, a rocking chair, covered with a plaid blanket, fits perfectly into the industrial style.
Industrial style apartment
The industrial style is more suitable for bars, shops, creative workshops, cultural institutions and other public facilities. However, there are fans of this trend, who make out their homes in a factory spirit.
The loft-style apartment is suitable for a creative, freedom-loving person who is not constrained by the conventions, who does not feel the need for solitude. It is also important that the fan of the loft style has at his disposal a housing of at least 100 square meters, and preferably even more. If such areas are available, you can turn the apartment into a model of industrial style.
Better to start with redevelopment: you need at least one large room. Industrial style does not tolerate crowding: wide pipes and other protruding parts take up a lot of space. Carrying out the reconstruction of the apartment, it should be borne in mind that it is extremely undesirable to remove the supporting structures, so you can not do without consulting a specialist. Otherwise, it will be impossible to agree on a redevelopment, and the apartment itself may collapse. The second point that must be foreseen before you begin to tear down the walls and carry out repairs is zoning the space of the room in the future. Perhaps, partitions will be required somewhere, somewhere it will be necessary to lower the ceiling, somewhere to raise the floor to highlight functional areas. Do not forget about the need to build a brick wall, a wooden door (it can be false), metal beams, stairs or other structures that serve as important elements of the loft style.
After the interior decoration looms well in the mind, it is worth considering the choice and placement of lighting devices. Industrial style requires a serious approach to artificial lighting. One chandelier cannot cope with the lighting of the whole space: a separate lamp is needed to illuminate each zone. A correctly selected lamp will help in zoning the space.
A chandelier can be placed above the living area. Any ceiling light is not good. The chandelier should be made of metal, with or without glass, and have a concise design. For a loft style, a spider chandelier or a lamp, which is a lamp suspended by a bunch, is suitable. Good ideas are to hang the lamps at different heights under the ceiling or on the wall, use a bus light, install floor lamps and table lamps made of raw wood, brushed metal. Suitable chandelier, wall lamp, table lamp will probably be found in the "flea market" or even among the rubbish in the garage of friends. A home-made chandelier with a lampshade made of welded metal bars also fits well into the interior in an industrial style.
Of key importance in interior design is furniture. The basis should be the most ascetic furniture: a wooden table with metal legs, massive cabinets with metal fittings. Furniture should not have any carved details, plush upholstery and other excesses.
Kitchen and bedroom design ideas
The most comfortable rooms in any apartment are a kitchen and a bedroom. It seems that designing them in a loft style is an impossible task, but it is not. Enough to show imagination - and everything will turn out.
An industrial style kitchen can be quite warm and even cute. Raw wood furniture, a brick wall, a steel panel in front of the working part, and a rude lamp will help. The walls can also be decorated with tiles, laying it so that it resembles brickwork. Cabinets on the walls are undesirable, it is better to replace them with open shelves. If desired, pipes and beams passing under the ceiling can also be used: for fixing fixtures, hanging for drying kitchen towels.
An industrial-style bedroom can also have brick walls, but no more than two: the rest can be made of metal or frosted glass. A huge window does not hurt. The bedroom should be separated from other areas by a partition. Cabinets, if you can not do without them, it is better to do built-in. One of the walls can be decorated with a poster or a picture in the avant-garde style. The only furniture that is needed here is the bed. It should not get out of the general style, but at the same time it can be made less cold than the whole decoration of the room by laying a bright cover on it, for example, patchwork or in ethnic style. The finishing touch in the interior design of the bedroom can be a chandelier with a metal shade of bright color.
