Hammock for a cat: how to do it yourself? (56 photos)
Feline capriciousness is known to everyone - sometimes even the most beautiful house from a human point of view, fluffy picks are ignored, preferring to sleep on the floor, on the bed, in a box from under the refrigerator. To avoid this and not run into a sleeping cat in the most unexpected places, you should pay attention to cat hammocks.
Why hammock?
The hammock for cats has specific advantages that make it more seductive for both humans and their pets.
Unlike people for cats, it is important that the sleeping place perfectly follows the shape of the body. A soft bed will lead to a curvature of the spine in humans, but for a cat it will be the most comfortable and convenient option. A hammock in this sense is best suited.
The hammock can easily be placed in a secluded place. If for some reason the cat doesn’t like it, it can be transferred elsewhere without any problems. Under a chair or under a table, on a battery or under the ceiling itself - for a hammock everywhere is spacious enough.
It is very easy to make a hammock for a cat with your own hands, you do not need a lot of experience or specific knowledge. Enough accuracy and patience.
There are many options for a hammock. For the simplest of them, you only need a piece of fabric and a thread with a needle.
What should it be like?
In order for the cat not only to like the hammock, but also to be functional, you should adhere to simple principles:
- to measure the size of the hammock with the size of a cat - for a small kitten it should not be too large, for a large cat - too small and unreliable;
- use fabric that is not electrified - it is best if they are scraps of old dense fabric (like jeans) that can support the weight of the animal;
- take into account the tastes of the pet - for a cat who likes to sleep on the closet, the hammock should be located high, and for the cat, which prefers secluded places and twilight, in warmth and comfort.
In addition, wondering how to make a hammock for a cat, you need to know what kind of hammocks are.
Outboard
In this embodiment, the hammock is attached to a chair, table or wall using carabiners or Velcro. They are characterized by mobility, ease of manufacture.
On frame
In this embodiment, together with a hammock, a metal or wooden frame is made, on which it will be pulled. Making them is more difficult, but you can put them anywhere in the house.
You can place a hammock:
- Under the ceiling - but you’ll have to provide a kind of ladder so that the cat can climb into it. Such a solution is not suitable for elderly and very young animals.
- Under the chair is the easiest option, but you will not be able to move the chair after that.
- The battery is the best idea from the point of view of any cat (much better even than a cat house with a hammock). Warm, comfortable, soft. However, overheating can trigger a cold and dry coat. In addition, if the animal has chronic illnesses, you should first consult with your veterinarian.
- On the wall - simple, good for home, where there is too little space.
The final placement depends solely on the tastes of the cat and the wishes of the owner. It’s good to have a scratching post nearby.
How to make?
In order to make the simplest hammock, you will need:
- square piece of fabric - its dimensions should be such that the cat can lie on it, stretched out;
- thread, needle;
- thick fabric ribbons;
- carabiners or Velcro.
Production will take no more than half an hour.
- Trim the edges of the fabric so that they do not crumble.
- Sew ribbons at all four corners so that they do not come off.
- Sew a carabiner or Velcro to each tape.
The result can be hung under a table or under a chair. With a certain amount of imagination, the number of suitable places and do strive for infinity.
To make a slightly more complex option, you will need a small hoop, a ring of thick wire or a basketball hoop, a round piece of fabric, tape, a carabiner, and if you wish, you can sew a small pillow.
Combining materials is easy.
- Put a round piece of fabric on the ring, tuck the edges and hem them so that the fabric does not slip (it is not necessary to pull it on).
- Sew the tape to the edges (three or four are enough for stability).
- Sew the ends of the ribbons together, sew a carabiner.
- Put a pillow in the center, if desired, sew additional fabric between the tapes for comfort.
The resulting structure can be hung anywhere: you can even to the ceiling, if you spend time and drive an additional hook into it.
Making a hammock for a cat on a battery is no more difficult. Need a thick wire, fabric, thread and a needle.
It follows:
- Bend the wire so that its two ends bend and cling to the battery, and the rest has a rounded shape.
- Sew the fabric with a thread and a needle to make a hammock.
- Hang on battery.
Such a design may not withstand a large adult cat, but for a kitten it will definitely be quite reliable. Buy bowls, make sure that there is a claw-brush nearby, and the hammock will become your favorite feline place to relax. It takes only a little patience and love.
