The most peculiar of the interior styles is deservedly considered a loft. He is young, but has many fans.
How did the loft come about?
To understand what sofas can claim to belong to a style, let's see what the essence of style is.
Loft appeared in the middle of the last century as a response to the insane high cost of renting apartments in cities. Entrepreneurial Americans began to rent empty lofts and attics for housing. Soon, the turn came to abandoned workshops and entire factories. There was no talk of any repairs, so the board was insignificant. The premises were chosen by artists, poets, other bohemian personalities indifferent to lack of comfort.
These circumstances determined the classic signs of style. Although respectable varieties have appeared today: wealthy people also liked spacious areas without internal partitions.
The loft, in fact, is a large one-room apartment, but has fans among the owners of standard multi-room dwellings.
By what signs is it recognized?
The classic loft is a spacious room without partitions and high flows. To make rational use of such opportunities, owners often create a second level to which a staircase made of metal or wood leads.
Minimum furniture allowed: no cabinets, ottomans or dressing tables. Only vital things like a dining table, sofa, bed. They can be the most diverse: antique, antique, until the 80s of the last century. Peeling varnish, frayed edges, faded upholstery or lack of individual parts is considered a big plus.
However, furniture, including loft style sofas, must comply with the mandatory requirements:
- strictly horizontal and vertical planes;
- clear form without roundness;
- massiveness, impressiveness.
Any item can be exhibited anywhere: the location exclusively near the walls, around the perimeter is not welcome.
Directions
Modern loft exists in several varieties. The choice depends on the size and location of the premises, tastes, financial condition of the owners. There are four types in total:
- bohemian: a sofa or bed is obtained from a grandmother's chest or antique shops, from attics or flea markets, they can have worn upholstery or a peeling frame;
- industrial: minimalism modification - plain leather sofa, rectangular bed;
- glamorous: new luxurious furniture from classic or baroque, pastel colors, but not traditional gray-white, but, for example, lilac-gray;
- Scandinavian: white or other ascetic furnishings with hi-tech elements.
Fans of the style who do not accept furniture second-hand can safely pick up new loft sofas or other things that are appropriate to his spirit.
Color
The traditional loft is the basic white, gray, black colors, as well as brown and beige. That was exactly the gamut of production facilities. As accents of a monochrome interior, blue, red or their derivatives (for example, purple, burgundy) are allowed.
Variegation is expressly forbidden, the color gamut is limited simultaneously to two or three harmonizing with each other or contrasting colors.
Loft sofa
A required piece of furniture, despite all the restrictions on the number of items in the interior. There are no walls in the loft and the sofa, as the most dimensional object, acts as the main element of zoning of a large space.
What should be like?
Sofas in the loft style have several characteristic features:
- always big, solid;
- are straight, angular, semicircular, modular;
- upholstery made of leather or leatherette, textile, suede;
- necessarily plain.
The armrests, frame and upholstery can be faded or aged, and the leather sofa is shabby, this is considered even more stylish. Decor in the form of curls, carvings, shiny hardware is excluded.
Upholstery
If a suitable specimen with multicolor upholstery is found to match, a hauling of a new fabric is required. White, gray, beige will do. If you wish to dilute the monochrome interior, an admissible bright upholstery canvas, complemented by the same color accessories. It can be, for example, pillows (all in one color) laid out on a sofa.
Young fans of style will more like a leather sofa with a print, an inscription or individual signs.
Configuration
The dimensions of the room are such that you can afford furniture of any size. Folding sofas in the loft style are not in demand for the sake of saving space, as in any normal apartment. The owners, as a rule, are lovers of home parties or friendly gatherings. No one is surprised by the sudden arrival of guests, so an extra seat to sit at the table is always welcome.
Play with space allows a modular sofa in the loft style. It can be lengthened, segments can be connected arbitrarily. For example, a semicircular design or in the form of the letter "P" with a table in the middle allows you to comfortably fit around a large company.
In an ordinary apartment, with smaller rooms, angular models, most often folding ones, look harmonious. The main thing is that their outlines and upholstery do not violate the style of the loft.
Black and white classic
Among the sofas of this style, black or white has a special place.
A black loft-style sofa is a recognized attribute of elegance and status. It immediately becomes the bright center of any space, especially against the background of whitewashed brick walls. Practical in care and durable leather sofa made of natural or artificial material. Some fans prefer the skin to be aged, worn, considering it a complete coincidence in style.
If this is not possible, black textile is chosen as an option. Not new, but necessarily high-quality is allowed.
Many fans have a white sofa. He is chosen by less extravagant people who also appreciate elegance and comfort. White leather, natural or artificial, even the fabric looks great in any interior.
Where to put?
The deployment is free and depends on the type of room. If it is a classic loft without partitions or a huge living room in the apartment, the same impressive sofa is displayed in the center or used as an element of zoning space.
In other cases, it may be smaller in size and take up space near the wall.
The loft style sofa is often equipped with wheels, which makes it mobile and makes it easy to change the location in the room.
A floor carpet made of felt, felt, woolen or other natural fibers can serve as a supplement.
Loft Bed
Necessary for any home furnishings in the loft is different from the usual.
What should be like?
The bed should have a simple concise shape, a wooden or metal frame. In a classic loft, this is metal with forged elements, a high headboard and a foot in the form of rods.
Glamorous or Scandinavian directions allow wooden execution with the same high headboard.
Decor in both versions - plain dark bedspread.
Location
The place of installation of a berth depends on the area of the room, its height, as well as the tastes of the owners. It can be in a traditional, outdoor version or more exotic, “airy”. Both solutions are used in a classic loft or in a regular loft bedroom.
Attic
Suitable for a small bedroom. It is rational to buy a design with a closet, that is, one where the sleeping place is located directly above the closet. However, the requirements of the loft are more consistent with the location above another bed or at the upper level. Upstairs in both versions climb the usual stairs.
Sofa bed
In fact, this is the same folding or corner sofa, only with a solid surface and a reliable transformation mechanism. In a loft, such a bed has clear, straight lines. Most often from solid wood or metal with a moderate decor of forging. Use of other materials is possible. The upholstery uses leather or plain fabric in different shades. For some areas of the loft, a faded or faded upholstery is intentionally selected.
Podium
A pedestal for a bed is constructed from the most extravagant objects, for example, pallets. It is installed anywhere in the space, most often in the center.
Tribute to progress and a desire to get enough sleep led to the presence of a good mattress, often orthopedic. In addition to a purely utilitarian purpose, it smoothes the unpresentability of a makeshift platform.
In a pre-made bed, the pedestal is often equipped with camouflaged drawers for storing bedding and other items.
