Thanks to the baseboards, any decoration of the room takes on a finished look. The first models were made of wood. Moreover, initially, for the main (bearing) part of the product, inexpensive varieties were taken, and the front strips were made of valuable tree species.

Now the markets for building materials offer all kinds of linings (skirting boards, fillets, platbands) made of different materials. Naturally, there is a demand for everything, but preference is given to reliable material of affordable cost. Most of all, these qualities correspond to aluminum. Aluminum baseboard

This element performs not only a decorative function, but also protects the edge of the floor covering, the joint of the floor and wall from dust, dirt.

The disadvantages are the high cost, the need for special care (since it is not advisable to wash the surface with detergents with abrasive additives). Depending on the shape, several types of skirting boards can be distinguished:

Latching - used for hollow models (with cable channels). This method can be used in rooms with a slight curvature of the walls. The main advantage is the ease of installation and dismantling. Since the contact area of ​​the products to the surface is small, it is impossible to glue them securely, so the installation is carried out in several stages:

• first, with the help of dowels, mounting clips are fixed (guides - installation);
• then decorative panels are attached / latched to the installed strips.

Gluing

The overhead products are equipped with an internal self-adhesive strip and are fixed to the wall. Advantages of the method - no drilling of surfaces is required; even if there is no special tape on the product, you can use a suitable glue.The disadvantages include: the walls should have a perfectly flat surface, a high requirement for adhesion of the finishing material of the wall. Otherwise, the plinth is unlikely to peel off. Sometimes, when dismantling the wall curb, the finishing material may tear off (in the case of using very reliable glue).

When choosing the shape and shade of the side, they are guided by the style of the room, its area. For small rooms it is better to choose low products, and spacious empty rooms will decorate flat high sides.

When installing the headset, it is important to ensure that grease, liquids and dirt do not get into the gap behind the furniture. It is the wall edge that copes with the protection of the table, walls / kitchen apron. The difficulties of caring for the product, its service life depend on the material from which it is made. Installation of aluminum skirting board

For work you will need: a drill, a screwdriver, furniture screws 3.5x16 mm.

When installing the side, it is not recommended to screw the mounting plate to the wall, as it will deform at the slightest displacement of the table.

1. The surface is thoroughly cleaned.
2. Skirtings are measured, the required number of corners (internal / external), connecting elements (if the product is shorter than the walls) is calculated. First, measure the side along the longest side of the countertop. It is important to consider the installation of corners. That is, the corners are first attached, and then the distance between them is measured. It must be remembered that the baseboard enters into each corner by about 5 mm. Taking into account all the nuances, the necessary part is cut with a hacksaw.
3. The decorative strip is detached from the base.
4. The guide is screwed to the countertop in increments of 15-20 cm. Many companies produce models that already have holes for fasteners.
5. A decorative strip with pre-worn corners is attached and latched.
6. End caps are installed. So that these elements are not removed and not lost in the future, it is advisable to pre-spread them with transparent glue.

A feature of aluminum profiles is the location of the silicone sealing strip on the mounting rail, so when fixing the side, it must be tightly applied to the wall and countertop.

Recommendations for choosing a skirting board for a kitchen

Flanges with a matte surface can be considered universal, as they “get along well” with any interior styles. The installation of polished models should be in harmony with similar elements or surfaces in a kitchen setting.

Perhaps the flat side looks original, but you need to consider the distance between the table and the wall.The aluminum triangular baseboard is more reliable in this regard.

It is more expedient to choose skirting boards at the stage of planning the style of the interior, since then it is easier to look for the right model or, in extreme cases, you can choose a replacement.
