Acoustic ceilings: the benefits of coverage (23 photos)
Content
When planning a repair in a room, regardless of its purpose, special attention is paid to the issue of sound insulation. There are many ways to meet this requirement, but not all of them are effective. For example, an acoustic suspended ceiling, compared to suspended structures, cannot provide a level of sound protection.
To ensure proper sound insulation in the room, it is recommended to install acoustic ceilings using materials from leading manufacturers.
Application area
Speaking about the scope of acoustic ceilings, it does not mean that they are mounted only in recording studios. A common example of using such constructs would be:
- own house or apartment - this way you can protect yourself from noisy neighbors or them from watching a movie at your home theater;
- office - this solution increases the comfort of employees staying at their workplaces. The office will create a working atmosphere that affects labor efficiency;
- trading floor in the store - the buyer will feel comfortable, as he will not have to scream to ask the seller something.
In addition to soundproofing properties, acoustic suspended ceilings are able to retain heat, which also affects the improvement of comfort in the room. Due to the additional thermal insulation, you can save money on heating the area.
Variety of Acoustic Ceilings
Many people think that plasterboard suspended ceilings are acoustic. In fact, this opinion is erroneous, since this material in itself is not soundproof. To ensure this quality there should be an air gap between the canvas and the base of the ceiling. If this layer is filled with mineral wool or fiberglass, the sound insulation index will increase.
Acoustic panels for the ceiling can be of several types. Consider the most popular of them.
The use of PPGZ plates
This name stands for perforated plasterboard sound-absorbing plates. Basically, they are made by Knauff. This tile material is able to provide good sound insulation due to a special non-woven fabric substrate applied to the back of the product. The front side of the ceiling from these plates can be lined with any material, however, like ordinary GKL.
Acoustic properties are acquired due to the perforation created. Consider the issue of perforation in more detail. Special holes are made in the material, which, in fact, are resonators. It is in them that the damping of the energy of the sound wave occurs. Based on testing, it was concluded that these plates are able to effectively absorb low-frequency waves. Despite this advantage of PPGZ, in order to achieve maximum results there should be an appropriate space between the material and the ceiling base.
Now you can pay attention to the external signs of the plates. Their standard shape is a square measuring 595 by 595 mm. The thickness of the plate is 8.5 mm. The ratio of perforation to sheet area can vary between 9-15%.
Such material as PPGZ is classified as “non-combustible”, it can be used for ceiling installation in rooms with a relative humidity of up to 95%.
Application of acoustic ceilings Armstrong
The specialization of this company is based on the production of suspended materials for ceiling installations.
There is a wide variety of TM Armstrong products:
- general ceilings;
- moisture resistant plates;
- hygiene materials;
- decorative finishing materials for floors;
- acoustic ceilings.
We will consider the last type of product in more detail.
Acoustic ceilings are a suspended structure consisting of a supporting frame and ceiling panels without spraying. For the manufacture of the frame, guide profiles of metal are used.
Armstrong high-quality acoustic ceiling can be manufactured using the following materials:
- fiberglass;
- basalt fiber;
- mixed type of plates with the addition of mineral and cellulose fibers.
In the latter case, organic matter is used as a binder, and the addition of asbestos components is excluded.
These three versions of acoustic products are environmentally friendly and safe. In addition to subdivision according to the types of materials used for production, acoustic plates can be perforated or solid.
Acoustic ceilings Ekofon
Ecofon is a world famous company that specializes in the manufacture of acoustic suspended ceilings. The design of products is similar to previous products. Installation of the acoustic ceiling will also be carried out using a metal frame.
The main differences are:
- material production technique;
- composition of plates.
In its appearance, the Ekofon plate can resemble a sandwich, where the basis is super-dense fiberglass. In the manufacturing process, a binder synthetic element is added to the product. On top of the plate is covered with a special shell, which is particularly durable. As a shell, mesh-reinforced textiles are often used. Based on this, we can talk about high rates of impact resistance.
The advantages of the material include the possibility of painting the surface after the installation of the acoustic ceiling. Thus, it is easy to create a decorative ceiling with protection. An advantage is also high fire resistance.
As in the previous version of acoustic ceilings, these plates can be used in rooms with humidity up to 95%. Plates can be in the form of a square and a rectangle. The spray coating is available in eight colors, so it’s easy to choose the right material.
In the modern construction market, acoustic coating for ceiling installation is presented in a wide variety. Each of the options presented has its own advantages.
When buying products for ceiling sheathing, it is recommended to give preference to well-known brands that have already managed to win the trust of consumers.
