Carpet with pile

Carpet with pile: types and description

A variety of weaving methods and pile lengths allow us to divide the carpet into a number of types. So, a carpet with a pile happens:

  • short pile (pile length is 2-5 mm)
  • medium pile (pile length - 5-8 mm)
  • long pile (over 8 mm).

Varying the height of the pile allows you to create a variety of three-dimensional patterns and geometric shapes on the surface of the carpet. A multi-level carpet, undoubtedly, looks more attractive than a single-level carpet, however, care for a carpet with different pile heights is much more complicated. In addition to the pile height, it is important to take into account such an indicator as its density, because such parameters of a carpet as preservation of the initial appearance, strength, and durability depend on the density. Each type of single-level or multi-level carpet has its own name. Below are just a few of them.

Velours

This is a one-level carpet with a low pile density. The top of each villus is fluffy and therefore the surface of the coating is soft, touching it is unusually pleasant. Such a coating is painted in plain colors and is therefore very sensitive to contamination. However, the care of this carpet is quite simple.

Ideal placement: living room, bedroom, children’s.

Frize

This is a one-level carpet with a pile. After a certain heat treatment, each villi of the carpet becomes curly, which determines the high resistance of the coating to creasing.

In the case of the frieze, two more advanced technologies are used.

  • combining pile of different thicknesses (which also allows the carpet to hold its shape for a long time);
  • drawing a print.

Ideal placement: nursery.

Scroll

The unusual appearance of this carpet provides the use of a variety of techniques:

  • multilevel arrangement of pile;
  • some of the coating loops are trimmed, some remain untouched;
  • a mixture of different colors of yarn is used in the manufacture.

The combination of these techniques determines the variety of colors, long-term preservation of shape, low level of abrasion.

Kat Loop

A multilevel carpet, the volume of which is created by alternating areas of high pile with cut loops and areas of dense low pile.

Shaggy

Long pile single-level carpet. The use of extremely thick and loose pile with cut loops allows you to create the effect of a real carpet. The special softness and springiness of this coating makes it very pleasant to touch.

Ideal placement: nursery, bedroom.

Saxony

Carpeting, the manufacture of which uses twisted yarn. Saxony is somewhat reminiscent of Velor, but, unlike the latter, has a very specific “granular” structure, which is determined by the method of cutting the pile.

Berber

Layered carpet with pile. The unique volume of the coating is determined by the use of large loops, varying both in height and in color. Such a coating is extremely elegant and can be used in different parts of the house.

Choosing a carpet is a difficult task, however, a huge variety of options for combining various parameters (leveling of the coating, pile height, its density, color) allows you to choose a carpet suitable for the interior of any home or office.
