Types of Stretch Ceilings

There are only two types of stretch ceilings: fabric seamless and PVC-based vinyl

1. Polyvinyl chloride stretch ceiling (PVC)

Vinyl Film Ceiling - during installation, the web is heated with gas guns to a temperature of 70 degrees, then the softened film is stretched and mounted on a pre-prepared frame. The range of colors and textures is simply amazing: suede, gloss, satin mat, etc.

The most common textures are matte, glossy and satin.

  • Glossy - the main difference is the effect of specular reflection, which allows you to visually increase the ceiling. But the disadvantage of the glossy ceiling is a more prominent seam line, against the backdrop of a shiny canvas.
  • Matte - such a ceiling will easily emphasize any style of interior, it can easily be called a classic option. The absence of reflections and specular reflection on the surface contribute to the exact transmission of your chosen color.
  • Satin - the surface of his canvas is smooth, but similar to a matte stretch ceiling. Moderate light reflection betrays a pearly shade to the ceiling.

2. Textile (seamless) stretch ceiling

Seamless ceiling - installation takes place without heating and additional processing, the basis is a textile fabric made of polyester fiber, impregnated with a mixture of polymer - polyurethane. Unlike PVC, they are not afraid of low temperatures. Also available in various colors.

Disadvantages of seamless ceilings:

  • relatively high cost;
  • Compared to PVC ceilings, they have a weak ability to retain water.

Disadvantages of PVC ceilings:

  • installation is carried out only with the help of special equipment.
  • vulnerability to mechanical damage;

The average installation time for suspended ceilings is several hours. The fastening of the blade to the profile depends on the type of stretch ceiling. This can be a shtapikovy or harpoon method - for vinyl, cord or clothespin - for fabric. A plastic or metal frame is twisted in advance and fastened using a dowel-self-tapping screw system. The gap between the wall and the finished ceiling is hidden using a decorative insert made of flexible or solid PVC. It is worth noting that all rough repair work must be carried out before installing the ceiling.
