Linoleum is an artificial waterproof canvas for flooring. Due to its decorative and technical qualities, it is widely used in the decoration of residential and public buildings. Available in the form of rolls of various sizes:

width from 0.4 to 5 m;

5 to 45 m long;

thickness from 1.5 to 7 mm.

But there are special linoleums having a thickness of up to 9 mm for laying sports, industrial and public buildings.

The most popular is natural linoleum for home - an environmentally friendly material, has high strength, wear resistance, alkali resistance and a relatively high service life. A wide range of colors and textures, the ability to imitate tiles or even parquet turns linoleum into a universal floor covering. The material also has some disadvantages: fragility at low temperatures, “fear” of moisture and cold.

Types of linoleum

In composition

natural linoleum for home;
relin (rubber);
nitrocellulose;
polyvinyl chloride (PVC);
based on alkyd resins.

By material structure

Homogeneous - homogeneous throughout the thickness of the material based on granules of PVC and dye. The drawing is not on the surface, but permeates its entire thickness. Due to this property, it has low abrasion. Often used in places with high traffic.
Heterogeneous - includes up to 6 layers (fiberglass, PVC, substrates of natural fabric, fiber, etc.), and the thickness reaches 7 mm. The number of layers indicates the heat and sound insulation properties of the material, resistance to stress and aggressive environments.

Household - it is made 1-6 mm thick on the foam basis from polyester. Despite this thickness, linoleum has a complex multilayer structure.
Special - it can be linoleum for sports facilities. Increased resistance due to the protective polyurethane layer. For medical institutions is available with a bactericidal coating and having sterilizing properties. There is a soundproof coating.
Semi-commercial linoleum in its structure is similar to household, but it has a reinforced protective layer (up to 0.8 mm). It can be used in offices and public places.
Commercial - designed for rooms with maximum load, have a low selection of decor, but have a very high degree of wear resistance.
