Unique design project of a bookstore-cafe
Have you ever wanted to buy a book in a store and read it right there, in a comfortable chair and with a cup of coffee? Or maybe you are also a fan of sweets? And do you have children who do not mind playing in cozy houses made in the form of bee honeycombs? This is not a stormy fantasy, but the reality of the present day. Already several original bookstores-cafes offer their guests a whole range of services - from acquiring books and hot drinks to the opportunity to enjoy both without leaving an amazing area with a comfortable interior and an atmosphere for reading and talking. We bring to your attention a design project of one of such stores combining the functions of a cafe and a playroom for children.
How to create a cozy atmosphere in an industrial building with a metal frame and an abundance of glass surfaces? Use natural materials, of course. Wooden cladding, the so-called “living walls” from plants and furniture of different models from the collections of home interiors are the key to success in creating a comfortable and yet practical environment.
At first glance, it might seem that the interior of the cafe shop is fragmented and too eclectic - book racks are replaced by plants on the walls, and chairs in the cafe zone with different upholstery and even style of execution. But such a layout and use of interior items, which at first glance are not related, allows you to create an atmosphere in which you forget that you are in the store and can enjoy the comfort and coziness with a book you just bought and a sweet treat.
The zoning of the segments of the cafe and bookstore is very conditional - it is indicated only by furniture and carpet. At the same time, elements from each zone intersect in the entire space of the original bookshop. The assortment of the book department is the most diverse, you can come both alone and with family, couples without children can also find a secluded corner for a secluded conversation.
The highlight of the interior of the bookstore-cafe was a green wall with living plants. It is impossible to imagine what other element of the interior is able to bring so much freshness and proximity to nature into space. In combination with light wood trim and décor, the living wall looks particularly organic. Wooden boards suspended above the ceiling not only outline the boundaries of the room in height, but also make the store’s design more comfortable, even homely.
In the bookstore-cafe, the storage and presentation systems are made in various modifications - from high racks from ceiling to floor with a movable staircase to low module cells. The books are displayed in such a way that little readers themselves can get the book of interest from a low rack.
In addition to various storage systems, shelves and open shelves for books, the walls of the original cafe are decorated with variegated decor - from photos of famous personalities to vintage posters of the last century. If visitors had time to drink coffee or read a book, then come back next time at least in order to carefully examine the atmosphere of a non-trivial store.
You can sit down with a cup of coffee and a cupcake at one of the round tables, sitting on a chair or chair. The use of chairs of different models, styles and colors allows you to make different-sized groups, but having at the same time at least one common feature, for example, material. Such sets look interesting and original, adding variety to the interior of a non-trivial store-cafe.
You can also place your book in soft places along one of the walls. This area is well lit, so it will be convenient and comfortable not only to drink a hot drink with cake, but also to read the book you just bought.
For those who love privacy and expect to spend a lot of time reading, the “book cafe” has several zones with soft comfortable chairs and individual lighting sources - floor lamps. In such a place you can feel at home.
Obviously, such a large space of a bookstore needs a high level of illumination, because after buying a book you can stay here and read it. A variety of pendant lights in this case, in addition to their main function, also play the role of decorative elements. For example, shades of different colors accent look on the light background of the decoration of the area of counters with sweets, tea and coffee.
The book and sweets store has an original and very cozy children's area. Parents can enjoy the conversation and their coffee while the children play in the original segment with small honeycomb houses. Children love secluded places to play in - it’s convenient for parents to keep their children in sight. The honeycomb houses are located in such a way that a child playing in a soft and safe place can be seen from both rooms of the cafe-shop.
