Dining table and chairs: a practical and aesthetic choice

What options do not offer us designers to create a dining area - this is the bar counter, and the kitchen island, and the peninsula, even the former window sill can be transformed into tabletops for meals. But in this publication we would like to discuss the traditional way for most Russians to organize the dining segment - the installation of a table and chairs. Modern manufacturers of kitchen furniture offer us such a wide range of tables and chairs to form harmonious, functional and stylish sets that it is easy to get confused. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare for the final stage of the design of the kitchen or dining room - the formation of the dining group.

Usually, the choice of a dining ensemble for a kitchen or dining room becomes one of the final touches in shaping the interior. Few people at the planning stage clearly imagine what the dining table and chairs will be like. But not in the case of a designer - a specialist, even at the stage of creating the project, lays down the dimensions, model, material of execution and the color scheme of the lunch set. Subsequently, only slight deviations from the given course are possible. If we do the repairs ourselves, then, as a rule, we prefer to wait for the installation of the kitchen set to see how much free space is left to install the table and chairs (stools). Based on this information, it is already possible to determine the shape and size of the dining ensemble.

So, the choice of a dining table and chairs for it will depend on the following factors:

• the size and shape of the room, the amount of usable space left to install furniture for meals;
• the maximum number of households who will eat at the table daily;
• average household growth (affects the height of the table and the model of chairs);
• maximum weight of family members (the load on the chair will affect the choice of performance material);
• the age of family members (small children and older people may be uncomfortable on beautiful designer stools);
• stylistic and color performance of the kitchen or dining room and your desire to highlight a dining group or harmoniously fit into the existing picture of the interior;
• financial opportunities of the family (for example, plastic chairs and wooden furniture made of valuable species differ significantly in cost).

The aesthetic side of the issue when choosing a dining group, of course, is important, but it is much more serious to approach selection criteria such as reliability, strength and durability of furniture. It is also necessary to take into account the practicality of furnishings - ease of maintenance and operation. After all, the kitchen space is one of the most risky in terms of surface contamination, not to mention the high humidity and constant temperature changes.

Choosing furniture for a particular room of our home, we are increasingly paying attention to design, overall dimensions, material of manufacture and, of course, cost. But how much the furniture is ergonomic and meets generally accepted standards, we do not always remember to find out. But after all, our well-being, convenience of location, figure and, ultimately, health depend on how well designed a table or chair is.

It is believed that the standard height for a square table 60x60 or in the form of a rectangle 60x80 is 75 cm. But it is important to understand that this height is selected for an average person's height of 165 cm. If you are significantly higher or lower than the generally accepted parameters, then the standard table height can you don't come up.In the manufacture of a dining table to order, you can set any height of the countertops. Usually this value is in the range from 72 to 78 cm. Yes, and in the lines of furniture manufacturers generally available at a cost, there are models with non-standard heights. The same applies to countertops - the size 60x80 is accepted as the most convenient, but is not a prerequisite if your room is not able to accommodate such a scale.

The height of the seat of a chair or stool directly depends on the height of the table. If the dining table has a height of 72 to 78 cm, then the chair seat should be located at a distance of 42-48 cm from the floor. In this case, the width of the seat in the widest part should not be less than 36 cm. The space between the legs of the table for a comfortable position of a person should be not less than 52 cm.

 

 

 

If the chair model has a back curvature, then the radius of curvature should be 22 cm with a back height of less than 32 cm and 45 cm with a height of more than 32 cm. The size of one seat on the dining table is in the range from 50 to 60 cm, and in depth - at least 32 cm.

For different styles of execution of the kitchen or dining room interior, dining room furniture made of various materials is also suitable. For example, for a hi-tech style, it is better to choose furniture from transparent plastic, metal and glass, it is possible to use chromed surfaces and structural elements. The combination of materials allows you to create not only original models in terms of aesthetics, but also to increase the strength, durability and wear resistance of furniture.

 

Plastic chairs are incredibly popular, primarily because of ease of use, ease of construction, mobility. It is easy to look after plastic surfaces, they are not afraid of moisture and pollution. In this case, the chairs can be made in a wide range of colors. The only serious drawback is weight restrictions. But manufacturers are trying to fight this disadvantage by combining plastic with other materials. For example, the use of wooden or metal frames or only legs together with plastic seats and backs, can significantly increase the bar maximum permissible weight.

Furniture made of transparent plastic (often combined with acrylic) does not easily look original and stylish in a modern kitchen or dining room, but also helps to visually “relieve” the interior of a small room. The ability to dissolve in space plays into the hands of modest rooms.

Wood furniture is a trend for all time. Given the incredible demand for eco-friendly materials, natural wood becomes the raw material of mastheads of any modern interior. Wood goes well with glass, and with plastic, and with metal. Therefore, in any stylistic direction of the design of the kitchen or dining room, the dining table with wooden chairs will look organic.

Wooden chairs with intentionally aged paint (usually in light pastel colors, most often white) will be the perfect complement to a dining group in the kitchen or dining room, decorated in the style of shabby chic or Provence. In order to create such a design, it is not necessary to have a spacious country house, compact urban dwellings can also be decorated with a touch of “shabby chic” in the interior.

Chairs with a wooden frame and leather upholstery look luxurious. At the same time, from an aesthetic point of view there is no difference whether expensive genuine leather or its artificial counterpart is used at a reasonable price - it is often outwardly difficult to distinguish material. Leather will add some chic to even the simplest models of chairs. This material as upholstery can be considered one of the most practical, because kitchen and dining rooms are at risk of pollution like no others.

If we talk about the durability of the material of the upholstery of chairs, then genuine leather is an indisputable favorite.But, given the high cost of natural raw materials, many Russians prefer leatherette. In order to enjoy furnishing with faux leather upholstery for as long as possible, it must be properly looked after. The following types of cleaning cannot be used:

• all types of polishes;
• dry cleaning;
• vodka, alcohol and acetone are also prohibited;
• bleach and all types of products containing perchlorethylene are not allowed;
• old spots can not be tried to scrape off with a knife in any case.

To clean surfaces from leatherette, use soap solutions, shampoos. Use wipes and soft sponges. Permissible use of ammonia. If you need to remove stains from fruit juice, it is best to use a mixture of vinegar and ammonia, and after cleaning, thoroughly rinse the surface.

Another option for environmentally friendly furniture is wickerwork. Chairs and small chairs made of rattan, willow vines, rods of hazel and reed, bamboo have long ceased to be an attribute of garden furniture. Designers around the world are actively using wicker furniture to integrate into modern interiors. The original appearance, mobility and environmental friendliness make wicker furniture a serious competitor to the traditional options for organizing the dining area. But it is important to consider the maximum allowable weight of the chairs before buying.

Chairs with a metal frame are strong, durable and able to withstand heavy loads. But the cost of such products will not be low. Metal is a fairly cool material, therefore, it does not perform solo in the manufacture of chairs, soft design of the seats and back is necessary. For a modern style of kitchen or dining room design, such models are perfect.

If rare fantasy variants are excluded, then the following forms of dining table tops can be listed:

• square;
• rectangle;
• a circle;
• oval.

Depending on what shape your dining table has, you can choose one or another model of chairs for it. For example, a rectangular roomy table is best equipped with not just comfortable chairs with backs, but mini-chairs without armrests. Of course, this option is suitable for dining or kitchen spaces with a large area.

The latest trend in creating stylish and original furniture ensembles for the dining area is the combination of different models of chairs at the table of traditional shape and design. At the same time, chairs (and compact chairs) can be excellent not only in style of execution, but also differ dramatically - in material of execution, color scheme, texture and print of upholstery fabric. You can combine plastic chairs with wooden models with soft upholstery, use fabrics of different colors. But it is important to understand that such a colorful dining group is simply obliged to be an accent in the interior - the whole environment should be done in neutral colors.

Less radical, but also interesting is the combination of chairs of the same style, but in different versions of upholstery, for example. Or chairs of contrasting color combinations are combined, but having a common concept of execution, materials of the frame and upholstery (if any).

Another interesting way to combine chairs and stools of various models at the same dining table is to use benches or small sofas, long and narrow ottomans. For a spacious room, in which a large number of relatives often gather for a meal, this option will become not only the original highlight of the interior, but also a practical approach for organizing a comfortable and roomy dining area.

For a compact round table, which occupies very little useful space of a kitchen or a small dining room, it is necessary to choose a no less mobile model of chairs. Great chairs with smooth bends, lines flowing into each other. The roundness of the chair models will emphasize the shape of the table and together will form a harmonious alliance.

 

 

 

The oval table allows you to accommodate a larger number of households or guests of the home. But at the same time, it still retains mobility and some compactness (if we are not talking about folding models that can increase a large radius due to the insert). For such a table, you can use chairs with wider seats, even with armrests (the traditional style will be relevant for a classic wooden table).

In order to emphasize the strict geometry of the square table, you can choose chairs or mini-chairs with the same straight lines and corners. Depending on the size of the table, one or two chairs can be placed on one side. But in any case, the composition turns out to be very graphic, rigorous and even a little parade.

In a separate group, we can distinguish models of chairs that invariably become accents of the interior, due to their coloring. In this case, it does not matter what plan the dining table is installed in the kitchen or dining room.
