Art Nouveau is a comprehensive concept for many branches of art, such as architecture and art movements, and subsequently design. The ideological and artistic movement that arose at the dawn of the last century took on a large-scale character, covering almost all branches of art. At the time of the creation of the style, its name - “modern”, thoroughly corresponded to the meaning of the word. Modern is something new, fashionable, the peak of modernity. However, over time, concepts such as "modern style interior" and "modern interior" formed two different types of architectural design of the room. The Art Nouveau interior is a direct correspondence to the style of architectural and artistic images. Modern interior is the use of modern technology and the latest requirements for interior design.
INTERIOR STYLE
The embodiment of Art Nouveau in the interior has three levels. The same gradation applies to other interior styles.
- Radical. Compliance with all, even the smallest, standards of interior styling.
- Large-scale decorative. The main line of style is created due to architectural elements.
- Superficial. Attention is paid only to characteristic accents and color schemes of the interior style.
Monumental interior styles, such as minimalist or classic, are easily recognizable even at first glance, because they have fundamental features that were later borrowed and combined in other interior styles. Despite the fact that the Art Nouveau style has existed for a little over a century, it has such recognizable forms and color combinations as the most famous representatives of classical styles, thanks to its unusual structure.
BASES OF CREATING A STYLE
"Modern is the submission of a single style of artist’s imagination"
The defining quality of the Art Nouveau style is the lack of straight and clear lines.Smooth and curved forms, close to natural, with a shifted center of symmetry, which are emphasized by a floral ornament. To give the form a bewitching sophistication, the main decorative material is colored glass and porcelain. The use of coarse materials such as metal gives a stark contrast to the fabulously natural motifs. An extraordinary mixture of primitive forms, without geometric rigor, and modern materials that define the technological age, gives practical freedom for creative ideas. You can combine materials in any proportion, making both metal and glass, wood or stone dominant. The invention of soft lines and shapes in the interior is limited solely by the architectural and technical requirements of the room. Classic interior styles are aimed at creating an atmosphere and aesthetics. Modern stylistic techniques for decoration, to a greater extent, are aimed at creating functional and maximally modern, technically equipped rooms. Born at the turn of the century, the Art Nouveau style successfully combines aesthetic and functional qualities. The game with blurry shapes plays a special role in fantastic motives. The difficulty in decorating the Art Nouveau interior is to maintain integrity. From the point of view of decoration, Art Nouveau is the most complex style of interior design, which requires a non-standard approach that fits into the strict rules of interior design standards in general. The list of characteristic features of the style:
- Smooth lines without symmetry.
- Natural (plant) motifs.
- Strict harmony of all, even the smallest, design elements.
- Use of coarse materials: wood, metal and glass.
MODERN STYLE FIT IF ...
Just as different styles of clothing can advantageously present the advantages and disadvantages of a human figure, interior styles position the space. To decorate the interior in Art Nouveau style, a large margin will be required, since excessive decoration takes up a lot of space. The obvious advantages of the style - the choice of light shades that can visually increase the space, as well as the rationality in the arrangement of objects of decor and furniture, do not compensate for the shortcomings of the area. Apartments with a non-standard layout are a good help for creating an interior unimpeded by the rigor of form. With the help of the Art Nouveau interior, it is possible to profitably reveal the flaws of the layout, irregular shapes of the rooms, irregularities in the plane of the walls, ceiling or floor. The stylistic direction of the interior is suitable for supporters of classical styles, open to experiments, fantasies and modernity, in all its unpredictable manifestations.
MATERIALS
A feature of the Art Nouveau style is a combination of various types of material of both natural and artificial origin. The method of elegant soft lines achieves maximum harmony between natural spontaneity and human creativity.
Tree
Wood is one of the basic materials for the reconstruction of a classic interior that meets the basic requirements of the Art Nouveau architectural style. It can be used not only as a floor covering, but also as the main decorative material. Since the processed wood has a color scheme that best meets the requirements of this type of interior, all types of wood of varying degrees of processing are used in the design. Dark wood in large quantities is used in the interior with mostly light colors of ash and cold shades, giving the overall picture of the interior contrast and expressiveness. In a smaller amount, in the form of frames and decoration, a tree of dark shades is used in combination with the active colors of one palette to increase color reproduction. Light wood gives softness and comfort to any interior, in particular a room stylized according to the foundations of modernism. This type of wood is well suited for large objects such as headboards, railings or flooring. The most difficult part of this type of interior design is maintaining integrity between all objects of coatings, cladding and decoration. To avoid destructive imbalance, choose only one type of wood material for all types of work with full matching of texture and color.
Glass
Art Nouveau glass has several functions. First of all, with the help of this material the basic elements contrasting with the general color gamut are introduced. Colored mosaic drawings the windows give additional diffused lighting, which fills the overall interior, decorated in dim colors, with colored highlights. The second feature of this material is related to the history of the creation of the style. Modernism is the first stylistic movement that began to widely use such material as glass for decorative purposes. The use of the material can be as diverse as the modern style itself is diverse. Glass tables, partitions, doors and any decorative elements, right up to the paintings, determine the style of modernism.
Metal
Metal in modernism is used as a mandatory addition. An excessive amount of metal surfaces, even made in traditional forms of modernism, can change the stylistic vector, giving the interior an excessive modernity. However, this material should not be discarded. Metal decoration defines a clear transition from strict classics to modern. The material is used exclusively for decorative purposes. Wrought iron elements that repeat plant motifs as much as possible give the wood and glass a complete, holistic look. The color of the metal is determined by the main (background) color of the interior. Metallic (silver) color is used to harmoniously combine sand and beige background color with dark wood. Cupronickel will add sophistication to cold colors, as well as fully complement the bright, characteristic of Art Nouveau glass mosaics. Dark metal is used to enhance contrasts. Thin metal curves on an ash-blue, pale green or lavender background create the effect of a fabulous, unnatural and mesmerizing combination, which is enhanced with a small decoration with dark wood.
Textile
Textiles are complementary materials that are used in very limited quantities and are clearly intended. Draperies, upholstery for upholstered furniture and small accessories such as sofa cushions and embroidery. A heavy and expensive fabric for curtains that complement the interior design in Art Nouveau style, as a rule, of a simple geometric shape, clearly selected to match the color of the walls. In rare cases, curtains can take on the role of color accent, however, this goes beyond the limits of the classical design of the modern style. Pillows and upholstery for furniture rarely appears as an active color element. The color of the fabric complements and balances the color of the furniture. If the interior design does not have enough bends, wavy bizarre modernist forms, then you can use fabric with patterns of the animal and plant world, made in the form of thin monochromatic lines without sharp, bright colored objects.
COLORS
According to experienced designers, color determines the atmosphere in the room. Almost all colors are used to create an Art Nouveau interior, the main emphasis is on shades that should be soft and whitened, whether sprinkled with ashes. This color effect demonstrates the measured, calm characteristic of a soft interior in the modern style. The choice of color is divided into three stages:
- Definition of background (dominant) color.
- Highlighting the active color elements of the decor.
- The addition of color textures to consolidate the style.
Background colors
The main background color sets the trend for the entire interior, since other complementary and active colors are chosen for it.It is important to take into account that in the Art Nouveau style, color dominance is assigned to exclusively active decorative elements, for more effective selection of which, the most lightened background is required. Also, light background tones fulfill another style requirement - a visual increase in space. The colors that are most often used to decorate the basis of the interior in Art Nouveau style: sand, yellow-peach, novaho white, linen, cream, lemon cream, aquamarine white, pale cornflower blue. A simple combination of expressive color with the addition of white or peach satisfies the requirements for the background. Art Nouveau is a game of shades that emphasizes the softness of the lines. Do not overload the background with cool white shades, as this is more typical of the hi-tech style. The softer and warmer the shade, the easier it will fit variegated glass elements, dark wood and forged metal accessories.
Active color elements
The easiest way to harmoniously fit active color elements into a light background is to use only one color. Color shades cannot conflict with each other. If lemon-cream color was used for the background, then the color of the active color will be sunny yellow. The location of such objects can be strict, according to the rules of minimalism: two large objects are located diagonally, between which are two or three small (the same color). You can also use the location of objects according to the principles of the classical style: gradation of the background color from light to the maximum bright shade, with which one zone is highlighted. There are no specific canons by which the color palette for the interior in the Art Nouveau style is built. If the emphasis is on deepening into the classical basis of the style, then gray-blue, tobacco and brown-bard color will help to emphasize this. To create an extraordinary atmosphere, use the darkest and most colorful shade of one (background) color. Due to the absence of demarcations and the basic lines of space, one can experiment with the arrangement of color elements. However, it is worth remembering that color is used primarily to emphasize non-standard lines, as well as bright additional textures.
Additional color textures
In the classic execution of the Art Nouveau style, a soft peach background color is used, and in the form of an active element, a tree or motley colored mosaic with soft streamlined shapes. Additional color textures are necessary in order to highlight the role of the material in the interior. The emphasis on the use of glass, metal or wood is decisive in the style of modernity. The color of additional textures should be as expressive as possible, completing the color ensemble of the background and active color elements. If the general background color and the color of the active element selected for it have a close to a natural shade, then the final one can serve as a light tree, cupronickel, mosaic on the windows made of bright rounded (oval, shapeless) multi-colored glass. When a color far from natural origin was used for the background, the additional color textures should be cold and dark: dark wood, steel (metal of steel color), porcelain. This will add sharpness to the character of the interior, which will enhance color reproduction.
LIGHTING
Lighting in any room plays a big role, especially when it comes to modern interior. The type of lighting devices, their decorativeness and compatibility with the general style, as well as the location of the light sources in the room are important.
Location of Lighting
To create a full-fledged style, it is necessary to establish two types of lighting - functional and decorative. Decorative lighting is necessary to highlight one or more parts of the decor of the room, to give emphasis and refocus attention from one object to another. With the help of decorative lighting, you can correct mistakes in creating the interior, increasing the emphasis on active color elements and individual parts of the decor. Functional lighting has its own subspecies that define requirements and purpose. Depending on the purpose, functional lighting can be:
- Main. Wall and floor lamps, turned lamps whose purpose is to illuminate the entire room by reflecting light from the planes of the room.
- Background. Dimmed ceiling light to illuminate the entire area. The main task of the background light is to eliminate blackouts in the far corners located behind the protruding relief objects.
- Trust. Lighting devices that are installed to illuminate one functional area with narrow beams.
Features of color schemes and a large number of objects with high texture, volume and prominent forms, which are used to create a radical Art Nouveau, require well-placed lighting. Large-scale decorative and surface-lightweight interior design in the Art Nouveau style requires no less work with lighting to create a full-fledged picture. According to the basics of the rules, three light sources are installed. The first type of lighting is the main one, installed on the ceiling, in the center of the room. The second is the main one, located slightly above eye level around the perimeter. The third is the background, set below the level of the knee to illuminate darkened corners. In the form of additional decorative lighting, you can make a mock-up of a window made in the Art Nouveau style on the wall, behind which diffused lighting is set in a warm sunny color to create color eliminations.
Lighting stylistics
The design of lighting fixtures in the Art Nouveau style immediately stands out from the general series of chandeliers, lamps and sconces. As a rule, they have an intricate shape that doesn’t look like anything and combine metal constructions, delicate porcelain, wood, colorful glass and other characteristic features of the style. Intricate shapes with asymmetric lines, not devoid of elegance - defines lighting fixtures of all kinds, made in the modern style. When creating an interior, floor lamps having a metal or wooden base with fragile drip glass (glass with air bubbles inside) are relevant. It is imperative that the base of the floor lamp, be it metal or wood, match the color and texture to the material already used in the interior. For targeted lighting, table lamps with non-standard bends with a large shapeless or ellipsoidal shade are used. A table lamp can act as an accessory if it is made of bright glass, suitable in color and tone to the overall interior. For the main lighting, elegant candelabra with wicker twisty patterns are suitable. They will well complement the classic execution of the Art Nouveau style with a large number of wooden coatings and decorative elements.
FURNITURE IN MODERN STYLE
Furniture traditions of the style fit as much as possible into the general dynamics of Art Nouveau, which was created on the contradictions of forms and materials, the most distant from the norms existing at that time. Art Nouveau furniture contains a number of qualities: functionality and compactness, complemented by massive objects to create a more textured image.
Materials
Style materials are widely used in furniture manufacturing. The main material remains wood, decorated with textiles, glass and (thanks to modern trends) plastic. To create a radical interior that is fully consistent with the style of Art Nouveau, unique furniture is required that is individually designed. The basics of creating furniture in the Art Nouveau style are determined by the trends of the classical and minimalist style in aggregate. The furniture design provides for optical illusion: heavy curly countertops on elongated thin legs; cabinets with carved wide doors, elongated up.
To furnish a room decorated in this style, only the necessary furniture is used. According to the principle of minimalism, only furniture that has a functional purpose in the room is selected. The arrangement of furniture meets the requirements of the most sophisticated classic styles: the center of the room is furnished, leaving maximum space against the walls.
Wooden furniture
The tree is most suitable for styling, but a number of mandatory rules must be taken into account. Firstly, the color and texture of the tree from which the furniture is made should repeat the shade of other wooden decor elements. It should also be remembered that in the classic style, any furniture has streamlined natural shapes with an asymmetrical pattern. The easiest way is to choose furniture close to the classical style, which differs in a bizarre shape. Art Nouveau is a very flexible style, conducive to experimentation. Wooden furniture can have shapes that are closer to a minimalist style. In this case, you need a very expressive decor, ornate colorful patterns or glass decoration. Often furniture is used as part of color harmony. In this case, the main large furniture is tinted to match the background color, and its variegated contrast balances with small elements of furniture according to the gamma corresponding to the brightest color of the interior.
Cushioned furniture
Upholstered furniture in the Art Nouveau style is used in a minimal amount and only with the intended purpose. Decorative plant forms characteristic of the stylistic direction should be as seasoned as possible. Given this, furniture is usually used for interior decoration with a minimum of upholstery and a dominant wooden surface. Since upholstered furniture is not part of the style, but has a functional purpose in the room and it is impossible to refuse it, it must be camouflaged, fitting into the general color scheme. Textile color is chosen under the background soft shades. If in the general interior there are not enough soft lines, the textile part of the furniture can be decorated with a monotonous sinuous pattern of motifs of flora and fauna. In the surface-lightened execution of the Art Nouveau interior, you can use standardized upholstered furniture with the condition that it will have simple geometric shapes, rough upholstery, as well as muted shades that merge with the overall decor.
KITCHEN IN MODERN STYLE
The Art Nouveau interior is practical in organizing the space, so it is most suitable for arranging the kitchen. The inherent functionality of the style makes it possible to make the kitchen comfortable, at the same time harmonious from an aesthetic point of view. Such a style requires a large space, but in a large-scale decorative design, Art Nouveau is easily applicable for small kitchens.
Walls
For wall decoration, it is best to use a non-textured plain material. In creating the interior, the walls play the role of the main background, which should not attract attention, but concentrate on the main color objects. The most common way is painting walls, with which you can achieve a muted monotony. Before painting, it is necessary to carry out mandatory work to align the walls, in order to make the surface perfectly smooth. One of the main materials of this style is glass, which can serve as a facing material for walls. Modern glass wallpaper Without textured drawings with matte textures, they are suitable for creating an art nouveau interior. More practical and less expensive material for cladding isceramic tilewhich also satisfies the style requirements.Straight angular shapes can destroy the style, so it is important to achieve maximum uniformity. Give preference to medium-sized ceramic products, without any patterns and without fail use grout for ceramic tiles. It is not recommended to use such facing materials as plastic panels or paper wallpaper. Both the first and second material have a number of qualities that contradict the features of the style.
Ceiling
Due to the abundance of furniture and dominant objects in the interior, the ceiling has a passive role, as well as the walls. The best option for wall cladding is to completely merge with the wall plane. Classical modernism requires soft lines, so when designing a style, you can soften the corners and joints between the ceiling and walls using concrete and plaster. The choice of material depends on the wall cladding. Painting the ceiling in the same color in which the walls were painted is the best option. However, it eliminates the possibility of installing convenient lighting fixtures. For more competent placement of lighting usedstretch ceilingwhose color and texture should also merge with the walls. The transition from wall to ceiling can be mitigated with a ceiling plinth painted in the background color of the walls or ceiling. Plastic panels, wallpaper coverings and multi-level structures are not suitable for ceiling decoration. Each of the listed materials has a too expressive texture that attracts extra attention to this plane of the room.
Floor
The floor is also not an active element in the interior, its color can be in harmony with the color of the furniture or with the general shade of the background design - walls and ceiling. Monophonic bulk floors successfully fit into the style of the kitchen. It is a strong and durable material, with wear-resistant characteristics, requiring no special care. The elite facing material granite can be used for the kitchen in the Art Nouveau style only if there is no pattern on it. The color of the granite coating should fully match the kitchen furniture. Solid wood flooring such as parquet orlaminate successfully used to form a full-fledged modern style for the kitchen. The color of the wood coating should be in harmony with other parts of the decor and furniture made of wood. The color of the coating is chosen as opposed to the background: the lighter the background, the darker the floor. You can also use light shades of wood, if the walls have the same shade. Ceramic tiles, often used for flooring in the kitchen, are very difficult to fit into the interior, creating an imbalance due to the sharp rectangular shapes. It is also not recommended to use linoleum.
Furniture
Furniture for the Art Nouveau style kitchen should be located exclusively against the walls, with one central object, if the area allows it. Since, according to the laws of style, all furniture must be located in the center, kitchen sets are disguised as part of the wall. They should have simple geometric shapes and one color. In order to focus on the stylistic features of Art Nouveau with the help of furniture, it is necessary to choose models of headsets with soft lines without direct, square shapes. However, kitchen furniture should not have complex lines characteristic of Art Nouveau. To achieve the confluence of the working area with the general style, you can decorate the furniture with plain ornaments of curving lines. The central object - the table, as a rule, is a massive countertop with elongated and thin legs. The table is selected according to the color of the floor or as an active color element. Classically stylized chairs, with upholstery and complex ornaments complement the central part of the interior.
Windows and lighting
Lighting for the kitchen should be of two types: background and target. The background lighting is evenly distributed on the ceiling. Target lighting is installed in the kitchen. If the kitchen is not large, you can use only background lighting. According to the style requirements, windows should have a blurry rounded shape, but this is not so simple to achieve. To do this, you need to change the design of the building and order a complex window design. A simpler way is frameless glazing, the geometric shape of which can be adjusted using curtains.
Accessories and decoration
The creation of the Art Nouveau interior in the kitchen is achieved with the help of color schemes and features of lines and shapes. Decoration and accessories are used in small quantities and at the same time are the final link for the integrity of the overall picture. Direct coarse curtains a few tones darker than the walls will finish the window. Giving harmony to the basic color elements is achieved with the help of small accessories located in the center of the dining table. Bright additions are best placed at the opposite ends of the kitchen and combine them with a large color object. In the form of accessories can be any items related to the kitchen: dishes, furniture accessories, artificial fruits or flowers.
LIVING ROOM IN MODERN STYLE
Interior design in the living room requires a deep penetration into one style, in this case, modern. To create a camphor environment, it is necessary to make the room as spacious as possible, as well as pay special attention to decorating and selecting color schemes.
Walls
For cladding, it is enough to paint the walls in light and ashy shades of any dominant interior color. It is better if the coloring is uniform, but to give the interior a classic look, you can use several shades to highlight the protruding parts of the wall. In living rooms, including the living room, you can use liquid or fabric wallpaper with almost imperceptible patterns. It is quite difficult to fit into the standard style, and to balance the excess emphasis on background decoration can only be the exception of most of the accessories. Not recommended for finishing plastic, paper wallpaper, as well as plastering. The walls create the basis for small bright accents in the interior.
Ceiling
The ceiling is made without sharp transitions and contrast with the walls. Single-level ceiling structures made of drywall are most suitable, since they can be painted the same color as the walls, as well as the most convenient to arrange lighting fixtures. The stretch ceiling design, complemented by diffused lighting, will look good. The easiest option for cladding is painting the ceiling, on which you can place a large chandelier in the Art Nouveau style. There is a type of facing materials for the ceiling, which goes against the requirements of the design of the living room in modern style. PVC ceiling panels, all types of textured or colored cladding, as well as cassettes are not used in the design of a living room in this style.
Floor
The flooring for the living room must be chosen not only based on the requirements of the style, but also with high wear-resistant characteristics. When choosing a coating, special attention should be paid to practical characteristics that allow you to create a comfortable and cozy atmosphere. Solid parquet or laminate flooring is most suitable for flooring. For convenience, you can use several rectangular carpets located in the recreation area. Self-leveling floors are quite difficult to use when decorating a living room, since they are not practical from a comfortable point of view. Deficiencies can be compensated for with carpeted “islands” that contrast with the color of the floor. The prohibited material for flooring is kavrolin, which is completely unsuitable for modern style standards. Materials such as ceramic tiles and linoleum are practically not used in the design.
Furniture
The living room furniture in modern style is always carried out, following several basic rules:
- the furniture is in the shape of the letter "G" or "P".
- the location of the furniture should be in the center of the room.
- furniture is always selected in one color.
- bright color elements stand out with the help of small furniture decor.
Large classic dark wood sofas and with light upholstery complete with several armchairs are located on a small plain carpet in the center of the living room. It is imperative that you have a table that will have low wide legs made of the same material as the wooden parts of the sofa, as well as a large glass or wooden tabletop. Variegated furniture with plastic coverings is often used. Colors should be worn based on the basis created by the background of the room. It is important to note that the less furniture in the living room, the more the interior will match the style of modernism.
Lighting
Lighting in the living room must be active. The main lighting requires a large chandelier stylistically appropriate to the decor of the room. If the living room has a working area, it must be highlighted with spotlights. Lighting for the living room is chosen with great care, as they create a final decorative accent. Most suitable models of chandeliers, table and wall lamps made of thin twisty metal rods and large shades of colored glass.
Accessories and decoration
When decorating a living room, the textiles may be a little more than what the modern style requires. Such additions as a carpet (geometric, plain), pillows and curtains are chosen in the same key and can serve as an active color element in the decor. Forged elegance is given to the forged products made in the form of railings or individual accessories. Glass vases of bizarre shapes and bright colors, art nouveau paintings, as well as various accessories made of wood, glass or metal, will easily fit into the style of the living room.
BEDROOM IN MODERN STYLE
The bedroom has its own characteristics when creating an interior in modern style. For her, two primary colors are used, not a large number of accessories, as well as muted-diffused lighting, not characteristic of the style.
Walls
For wall cladding in the bedroom, you can use not only coloring, which is most often applicable to the interior in this style. Plastering walls is also suitable. Despite the texture of this material, it creates a fairly comfortable atmosphere close to the classic interior. All kinds of wallpapers that do not have a large, bright or geometric pattern can also be used. When decorating the walls in the bedroom, you can focus on the walls, complementing them with more patterned or textured elements, since this space lacks the possibilities of decoration. The only material that should not be used for wall cladding in a bedroom stylized according to the rules of Art Nouveau is plastic.
Ceiling
The decoration of the ceiling should be done using the same materials that the walls were lined with: plaster, wallpaper or painting. When decorating the ceiling, you can deviate from the basic requirements of the style, and make an additional emphasis using the difference in colors or textures. The most convenient and profitable option for facing the ceiling in the bedroom is suspended ceilings, with the help of which not only a stylistic concept is achieved, but also it is possible to conveniently use lighting devices. Do not supplement the ceiling with stucco molding or large curly inserts, as this will give the style of antiquity. It is also not recommended to use office options for ceiling cladding.
Floor
Dark or whitish shades of parquet or laminate are used to floor the bedroom in the Art Nouveau style. An economical option for flooring is linoleum, which is applicable only if it has a plain color and is partially compensated by the contrast with the carpet. In rare cases, you can use small-pile carpet. Cold materials such as ceramics or granite are not suitable for creating a cozy atmosphere in the relaxation room.
Furniture
Minimalism in furniture is also relevant when creating an interior in a bedroom. The main emphasis is on the bed, which should have a chic wooden headboard with decoration or be upholstered in rough fabric without patterns. Bed linen is chosen to match the color of the walls or floor, with several contrasting splashes. Bedside tables or a table should have low legs and be no more than half a meter high. Shelves fit well into the decor, in style they are completely similar to the pedestals. The coffee table should be located between the bed and the entrance to the room. The cabinet should be massive large, located in the remote part of the room. To save space, you can use the built-in wardrobe, with glass colored doors.
Lighting
The most diffuse lighting, creating glare and a soothing atmosphere, is achieved with the help of one large chandelier in the center of the bedroom and several lamps on the bedside tables. Install lighting fixtures with adjustable light intensity from minimum to maximum.
Accessories
Accessory enhancement is minimal. Thin tulle, the color of the walls in conjunction with the rough curtains a few tones darker complement the window opening. On the walls you can place one or more paintings that match the style of the bedroom. Without preserving symmetry, various vases, figurines, or lamps of an indefinite shape are located on the bedside tables.
BATHROOM IN MODERN STYLE
When designing a bathroom in the Art Nouveau style, extraordinary textures are used for wall and floor cladding. Thus, it is possible to compensate for the lack of space for decor. Particular attention is paid to the decoration of individual elements and the construction of gradation of color.
Walls
Wall cladding is carried out in several stages. The first is staining to create a background color. Alternative materials for the first, background layer can serve as a plain ceramic tile or plaster. The second layer is decorative. For these purposes, color mosaic is suitable, as well as applying a pattern with acrylic paints. The pattern or mosaic should correspond to the stylistic requirements of Art Nouveau, as well as have a certain color range - one to three shades darker than the background. Due to high humidity and a sharp temperature difference, materials sensitive to such conditions are not used to repair the bathroom.
Ceiling
The ceiling in the bathroom must be resistant to moisture, so the same material is used as for wall cladding. When choosing from plaster, tile and paint, give preference to the latter type of finishing materials, as they are more resistant to temperature extremes and high humidity, as well as fit into the stylistic requirements as much as possible. Stretch ceilings are not used for repairs in the bathroom, since the main material of this type of cladding requires an average level of humidity and room temperature. Also, do not use plastic or cassettes.
Floor
For ceramic flooring, any ceramic products that should be selected in color to the wall covering will do. To create a natural aesthetics, you can use colored bulk floors, creating complex soft patterns. The color of the bulk floors should combine the lightest and darkest shades used in the interior of the bathroom. Materials such as parquet, linoleum, carpet and laminate are rarely used for cladding. Only when parquet or laminate have special properties that prevent swelling and decay, can they be used as the main floor covering in the bathroom.
Furniture and Plumbing
Bathroom furniture is limited to a cabinet, chair or chair, as well as, possibly, a cosmetic table. All furniture should be one set. The color of the furniture is chosen in combination with the color of the floor. Plumbing equipment should maximize the importance of metal, glass and porcelain in the modern interior.Non-standard forms, fabulous and, sometimes, futuristic bends are brought to the fore. There are two ways to achieve a harmonious interaction between the interior and plumbing:
- Selection of colors. Plumbing should be matched to the color of the walls or floor.
- Streamlining. All plumbing equipment is heated in the walls. Built-in bathroom, shower, located in the wall, etc.
Lighting
According to the rules of the arrangement of the bathroom, lighting should be located pointwise in two or four opposite parts of the room. For these purposes, spotlights are more suitable. However, the style of spotlights is far from the requirements of modernity, so you can experiment with wall lamps. Pay special attention to lighting mirrors, placing hidden lamps around the perimeter of the mirror.
Accessories
Any standard components of the bathroom should have a non-standard look. A heated towel rail curling like wild ivy will adorn the bathroom wall. A glass for brushes, a soap dish and other accessories should be thought out and lack a standardized look. Oblong mirrors with metal shapeless framing, as well as bright artificial flowers will complete the overall interior picture.
ENTRANCE HALL IN MODERN STYLE
When decorating the Art Nouveau style for the hallway, due to a lack of space, the main decorative element is the door. Soft bends, colored glass inserts and handmade door handles should be the main bright accent.
Walls
The wall cladding in the hallway must be approached from the practical side. The goal is plain walls without textured and bright elements. Suitable for wall paint or liquid wallpaper. You can use the complex, but the most aesthetic method of a wall-screen. The main wall between the room and the hallway is demolished, and instead a glass screen is installed with bright mosaic patterns. The role of the screen can be played by a non-standard through-closet or an individually designed drywall design. For wall cladding in the hallway, paper wallpapers, plastic panels and plaster are not used. Textured materials with an expressive pattern or oblong lines of joints violate the standards of modernism.
Ceiling
The only requirement for the ceiling is a properly positioned lighting. In narrow and small spaces, the importance of the ceiling, as part of the decor, disappears. In addition, one of the features of the Art Nouveau style is the combination of walls and a shelf with the help of color. Use a stretch ceiling that matches the color of the walls. Also, gypsum plasterboard ceiling structures are suitable, followed by cladding with the walls. These types of ceiling cladding are convenient for the location of lighting, as well as the maximum complement the plane.
Floor
The entrance hall is rarely made out separately from the room adjacent to it, so the floor covering for the flooring in the hallway is a continuation of the floor covering in the room. For the hallway, parquet and laminate are most suitable, which are highly durable and decorative. With the same success, a bulk floor can be used that fits as much as possible into the stylistic requirements of modernism. Such floor coverings as linoleum, carpet and floor ceramic products have a number of characteristics that contradict the features of modernity.
Furniture
Modernism requires a lot of space, which creates difficulties in matters of furnishing a small room. To equip the hall in the Art Nouveau style, you must use the built-in wardrobes, which save space as much as possible and can serve as a decorative accent when designing. Of the required furniture in the hallway should be present such attributes: hanger, dressing table, chair or stool. The style requirements for furniture are very blurry. This can be fundamentally classical furniture made of wood and having decorative curved shapes, slightly devoid of symmetry, to emphasize the aesthetics of modernism. Also, furniture can be the final stage of decoration and have soft shapes and bright colors that combine with the floor or walls. The dressing table and chair are best done in the same style. A hanger can be a separate object made of metal or plastic and having more decorative significance than that presented in the form of furniture.
Lighting
Ceiling lighting is a simple and proven way to create a comfortable environment. However, for the design of the hallway, it is better to use three or four wall lamps placing them at eye level. Lighting devices should be located from the entrance to the door to the room (living room).
Accessories
The main decoration is taken over by the walls, so accessories are paintings and mirrors made in the modern style. A bright color completion of the composition can be any decorative glass product. Textiles and carpets are better not to use when decorating the entrance hall in the Art Nouveau style.
IN CUSTODY
Art Nouveau, as a direction in interior design, is a full-fledged industry in art, which has the ability to modify and succumb to the imagination of the designer. Modern materials, technology, new stages in the development of color combinations, provide unlimited opportunities for creating a peculiar, lively and form-filled interior. The most democratic style, ready to improve, provides designers with a whole world whose life begins with the aisles of the artist’s imagination.
