You won’t play, you won’t read: an accordion door and a book door
The door to the house is an obligatory element. No one can argue with that. Another thing is what kind of doors it is, how they look, what they are made of, how much they cost and how well they protect against various weather conditions and uninvited guests. And this, of course, is a matter of taste, the depth of the wallet and a tribute to tradition. Europeans are accustomed to a swing door, whether it is wooden, metal, glass or whatever. Everything is simple in it - a solid or segmented canvas, on the side of the loop. As the saying goes, "pull the rope." But there is a completely different door tradition, originally from Asia. From there, a folding accordion door and a book door came to us. At home, in Japan and China, these doors are used everywhere today: for offices and residential premises, as entrance and interior doors. We have this technical solution, of course, appropriate only for dividing rooms and segmenting the space inside the room.
Principal differences
The door-book and the door-accordion are two similar varieties of folding doors. The only difference is in the number of paintings (parts) that make up the door. The book has only two such parts, the accordion - from three or more. The accordion door in its structure resembles vertical blinds, in which individual panels are connected by hinges. It is not suitable for all interiors, but if you make the right choice, this design will make the room more original.
A similar model will look great in the bathroom instead of curtains. But then it is better to prefer the option of plastic. Convenient and practical are automatic folding doors, which can be easily controlled with the touch of a button.
The corrugation model is selected for any openings. Moreover, if it is necessary to expand or narrow the opening, the door is easily enlarged or reduced by eliminating or adding several sections.
In books, sections can be arranged symmetrically (equally wide) or asymmetrically (one narrower than the other), which looks very interesting. Like accordions, they move apart in any direction. In addition, the sashes of such models in the folded position can be at the end of the opening, slide into the wall itself or fold. This option is convenient for apartments Khrushchev built.
The undeniable advantages of folding doors include:
- originality and exoticism;
- the ability to use this design of doors to close the opening of any width and height;
- saving space in a small apartment or room and the ability to more rationally use the living space;
- safety, because the folding door, which thanks to the design opens quite smoothly, it is difficult to hit someone or pinch something.
But still there are other nuances that should be considered when choosing folding doors:
- they can be installed only in those rooms where doors will be used infrequently, since folding mechanisms will quickly become unusable from frequent opening and closing;
- higher cost of folding doors compared to traditional swing doors, due to the greater number of expensive fittings.
Where and how
Folding book-doors and accordions are installed in the kitchen, in the dining room, bathroom, study, bedroom.
It is convenient to use the accordion door in the dressing rooms as a light partition in the toilet. Modern technology allows us to make such a piece of furniture from almost any material. Manufacturers offer wood, MDF and PVC panels, plastic, glass, aluminum. There are many options for decoration and painting, so without problems you can fit this apartment into any, even the most thought out to the smallest detail interior.
Recently, glazed panels for folding doors with imitation of stained-glass windows have become especially popular.In addition, a similar element of the interior can be decorated with art painting.
Important Nuances
Different models provide an individual fixation method. If you use both guides (lower and upper), the installation will be more difficult, but the design itself is much more reliable. The top rail is attached to the ceiling or wall. To harmonize with the overall design, it is decorated. Installation of the door requires a professional's hand, otherwise after a while the canvas will not be completely closed, it will creak, and the locks will become unusable.
Before installing the structure, it is necessary to level the surface of the floor. If pits and bulges are allowed, gaps may form under the door and between the wings. When buying accessories, carefully check the quality - the practicality and durability of the entire system depends on the sliding mechanisms and hinges.
