Kitchen Design 2019: Trends and Innovations
Kitchen space is one of the most important in any home. It is especially important to make the kitchen functional, comfortable and practical for Russian families. Despite the wide distribution of various food outlets - from small cafes with take-away products to chic restaurants with original cuisine, Russians traditionally spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Not only daily family dinners, but also gatherings with your closest friends and relatives are held in this multifunctional room. From that, the design of the kitchen becomes a stumbling block for many owners of apartments or private houses who decided to make a global repair or a small alteration. Too many dilemmas have yet to be addressed; many important questions will require answers. And not the last of them will be the choice of the actual design. So, what changes in the interior design of the kitchen space threatens us with the upcoming 2018? Which novelties may appeal to Russians, and which ones will remain only a trend of foreign design projects?
New season trends
Fashion for interior design is not changing as rapidly as many of its areas related to our daily lives, for example, trends in clothes, shoes and accessories. And yet, every year, designers are trying to find solutions that would help us make our homes more beautiful, more comfortable and more functional, take into account the various nuances of layouts, climatic and national characteristics, tactfully interlacing them with world trends. Manufacturers of finishing materials, furniture, household appliances and decorative elements are looking for new solutions to create not only affordable, beautiful and practical products, but also environmentally friendly raw materials, energy-saving options that meet the needs of modern people.
In the design of the kitchen premises in 2018, several characteristic trends can be distinguished (which can become a guideline for creating a project, but are not a dogma when planning the repair or reconstruction of a single kitchen):
1.Spread and light
Creating the most spacious and bright room for any purpose is an unconditional trend of the last few seasons. Unfortunately, for most Russian cuisines this feature of modern design is quite difficult to apply. In standard apartments, kitchen facilities have a small area. Often, the owners try to solve this problem by combining the kitchen with an adjacent room - a corridor or a living room. In order to create a feeling of spaciousness even in a small room, panoramic windows are excellent. But their installation is not always possible (especially in apartment buildings built in the last century).
If there is no way to make design changes with a small kitchen, it remains only to use light, color and shape to visually expand the space. And in this case, to achieve this goal, all means are good - the use of a bright palette for the decoration and furnishing of the kitchen space, the use of mirror, glass and glossy surfaces, minimizing the furniture and equipment used (installation of multifunctional models), additional and decorative elements.
In order for the room to appear larger than it actually is, it is important not to overload it with interior elements. Of course, it is impossible to deprive the kitchen of such important elements as a stove, refrigerator or sink. But by reducing the number of kitchen cabinets or replacing the upper tier of storage systems with open shelves, it will help to visually make the image of the kitchen easier and more modern. This technique is especially relevant in the layout for corner rooms with two or more windows.
2.Color palette in cool colors
If in the past seasons, designers most often suggested that we turn to nature for inspiration when choosing a color scheme for a kitchen room and stick to warm, natural shades, then today's trends are aimed at using a predominantly cool palette of shades. The active use of white in the design of the kitchen is a trend for all time. All shades of white help not only create a visual increase in the volume of space, but also make the room an ideal “clean sheet” for applying a completely individual picture of your kitchen interior. White color creates a clean, light image of space and goes well with any shades. The combination of white with any tone is beyond the reach of professionals.
As for the cool shades used in the design of modern kitchens, their popularity has understandable roots. All other things being equal, a cool color palette almost always visually makes a room bigger than when using warm tones to decorate and execute furniture in a kitchen. In addition, modern household appliances and kitchen accessories, in the performance of which there are many chrome, tinted and steel surfaces, are incredibly harmoniously combined with cool tones in the design of the kitchen space.
But cold colors are not dogma. If your small kitchen room is located on the northern part of the building, has poor natural light (for example, trees cover most of the window opening), then it is better to use light but warm shades for its decoration, despite all the recommendations of the designers.
The use of contrasting combinations when creating modern kitchen design projects has not lost its popularity. A clear, dynamic and structured image of the room, the interior of which is a change of dark and light surfaces, attracts many modern owners of small kitchens and spacious rooms. Creating a fashionable and at the same time practical kitchen design using only two tones - light and dark, is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. A competent choice of the dosage of dark color (black, dark gray, dark chocolate, graphite) among light surfaces can help not only create a modern and practical image, but also emphasize the advantages of architecture and hide its imperfections.
3. Eco-friendly materials for a modern kitchen
The fashion for the use of environmentally friendly materials for interior decoration and the execution of its furniture is not new. Raw materials that do not harm humans and the environment have always been a priority. But if earlier the difference in the cost of goods produced according to environmental standards and their artificial counterparts was more than significant, nowadays all segments of the population can afford safe products in terms of toxicity. Of course, we are not talking about the choice of rare and accordingly expensive species of wood, stone and other natural materials. But it is possible to find your optimal type of goods in terms of composition and cost for arranging the kitchen with any type of design and budget for repairs.
4. Built-in appliances
No kitchen can do without household appliances. In modern design projects, kitchen appliances play an important role not only in terms of the formation of the functionality of the room, but also in its appearance. Modern manufacturers of household appliances offer us a wide range of products that are different in many respects - picking up built-in appliances of the required size that fits perfectly into the kitchen layout will not be difficult. In this case, it is necessary to pay special attention to the choice of energy-saving models that help protect the resources and wallets of the owners.
The use of retro-style household appliances has not lost its popularity. But, if in past seasons, designers recommended the installation of bright retro models that can easily create a color accent and become central elements of the interior, then current trends are associated with the use of devices of a calm color scheme, more traditional colors.
5. Focused surfaces in the spotlight
The desire to create the most effective, functional and practical interior, leads to the fact that its appearance is inevitably simplified. Decor and various additions fade into the background. The objects of close attention are not only color, but also texture. The use of heterogeneous texture in the design of modern kitchen is becoming one of the main trends. At the same time, the focus is on both the decoration of the room and the choice of furniture. The use of a natural or imitated surface “under concrete” or brick does not lose its popularity. The natural or whitened color of the brickwork looks spectacular in the interior of the kitchen of almost any size. Bricks can be used to fragment the design of surfaces (for example, a kitchen apron) or to create a whole accent wall - it all depends on the size of the room and its layout.
Equally popular is the use of concrete surfaces. At the same time, concrete can be natural or imitated using decorative plaster, liquid and vinyl wallpapers, wall and ceiling panels. Despite the clear commitment of concrete surfaces to industrial topics, you can apply this type of finish in other styles that are similar in concept.
The use of textured surfaces is also associated with the choice of furniture ensembles, dining groups and even countertops for kitchen units. Abandoned wood, with a pronounced texture becomes the hit of the season. Easy “aging” of the material gives charm not only to the furniture itself, but also creates a special atmosphere throughout the room. Of course, textured surfaces are a bit more difficult to care for, especially when it comes to a room with a special microclimate and a level of contamination of the planes. But the spectacular appearance of furniture with textured surfaces more than pays for all the costs of caring for it.
6.Effective storage
The kitchen room is, first of all, functionality. Performing all work processes with maximum comfort is the key to creating an effective design. At the same time, the issue of storing a thousand and one items necessary for the implementation of these work processes is not in the last place. The phrase “there are never too many storage systems” fits perfectly into the kitchen space. After all, to store in this multi-functional room you need many different devices, utensils, textiles, appliances. And it is important to arrange them in such a way that the search for the desired item and its use is as comfortable and fast as possible.
“Smart” storage systems are not an easy trend of recent seasons, but an important necessity in terms of saving space in small kitchens. Various sliders, rotary and rotating shelves, dividers for appliances and plates help streamline the storage process. The initial increase in the cost of storage systems through the use of modern devices pays off pretty quickly.
7.Multifunctional and ergonomic kitchen accessories
In such a diversified and most popular room in a dwelling as a kitchen, every detail is important - from the choice of material and design of the mixer to the functionality of outlets. If earlier they tried to hide many devices necessary for operating household appliances or storing various kitchen accessories from their eyes, making them less visible, then in the light of new trends, they become equal participants in the formation of the interior picture.Various devices often act as highlights of the kitchen design, increasing not only the level of comfort and functionality of the room, but also the originality of the interior.
8.Stylistic choice
The peculiarity of the modern design of the kitchen is that the style of decoration is very rare in the "pure" form. Most often, designers suggest using intermediate, transitional versions of stylistic concepts. For example, meeting the classics and even the neo-classics in the kitchen is not easy - it will be more likely a transitional option from traditional to modern ones. And not only because the interior uses cutting-edge household appliances that no one else hides behind kitchen facades, but also because the design concept itself is focused on a modern style, gravitating to practicality, functionality and even some minimalism.
