Sofa in the nursery - a kaleidoscope of ideas
Making a room for a child is a headache for parents. And the point is not only that all finishing materials, furniture and decor should be tested for strength, environmental friendliness and practicality in the personal ranking of parents, but the baby should also like, be comfortable, beautiful, interesting. When choosing furniture for a baby’s room, one can be guided only by the preferences of the parents and generally accepted criteria of functionality, safety and aesthetics. But the opinion of a grown up baby will have to be reckoned with. Before you go to the store together to purchase a comfortable and practical sofa in the nursery, and your baby chooses the most striking or original piece of furniture - read some recommendations that can help you make a successful choice.
Criteria for choosing a sofa in a child's room
The sofa in the children's room can have several functional roles - part of the play area, a place to relax and the sleeping segment. Of course, the highest demands will be placed on a sofa with a folding mechanism, which is able to quickly transform from a place to relax and play in the sleeping area. If there is no way to install a bed with an orthopedic mattress in a children's room and buying a folding sofa is an absolute necessity, then you need to seriously approach this issue. We spend a third of our lives in a dream, and children at this time also grow, develop, and process the information received during the day. Your child’s health directly depends on how ergonomic, safe and comfortable your child’s bed will be.
The quality of furniture materials for a children's room is not only directly related to the health of your child, but also reflects the life of the product, because a sofa is a purchase that takes more than one year. It is better to spend some time on a high-quality product and not worry about possible breakdowns of the mechanism, subsidence of the filler or rupture of the upholstery.
The choice of a sofa for a children's room differs from the usual piece of furniture, for example, into the living room, with increased attention to risk areas. Try to ensure that the design of the sofa involves as few reasons as possible for injuries - soft armrests, the absence of protruding parts and even more so sharp corners. If there are retractable storage systems at the bottom of the sofa, you need to check for the so-called “finger protection”. If the sofa has a roll-out folding mechanism in a berth, it is important to check the model for the presence of rubberized wheels that will not harm the floor during daily use.
Particular attention is paid to the folding children's sofa - when folded, it should be quite compact so as not to occupy much of the room’s useful space, and when unfolded, it should represent perfectly flat (as much as possible) space for a comfortable sleep.
The most popular among our compatriots are transforming sofas. During the day, this piece of furniture is more like a roomy chair for two, and at night it unfolds in a fairly spacious place to sleep. As a rule, such transformers are equipped with sides on both sides, protecting the baby from falling. There are many models that can "grow" with your child.
No less popular were sofas with folding mechanisms such as "Eurobook" (American and French) and "click-gag". When unfolding such models, the lower part of the structure, concerning the floor, is not involved, so you will not need to worry about the state of the flooring with frequent use of the sofa as a sleeping place.Almost all models provide for the availability of free space for storing bedding and other necessary attributes for sleeping and relaxing.
Modern manufacturers of furniture for children's rooms offer a wide selection of orthopedic sofas. Such models are more like beds (of various sizes) equipped with low sides or backs (around the perimeter or only on one side). If in the afternoon to equip a non-soft back of such a piece of furniture with many sofa cushions, then it is quite possible to get a kind of sofa. And at night, your child will sleep on an orthopedic, hypoallergenic mattress with a high level of body support. Of course, for an orthopedic model you will have to pay more than the average price of a children's sofa, but if we are talking about the daily use of the design as a bed, then the high cost will more than pay off for the child’s comfortable sleep.
If we talk about choosing upholstery for a sofa, then children, as a rule, have one requirement - it should be bright and pleasant to the touch. Parents are more worried about the environmental friendliness of the material, in particular this applies to the selection of furniture for an allergic child. Unfortunately, there is no material for the upholstery of the sofa, which would be completely natural and at the same time easily cleaned of possible pollution options - spilled juice, paints, felt-tip pens, plasticine and so on. Therefore, each parent will have to solve the dilemma of choosing between the simplicity of caring for the surfaces and the safety and comfort of the child.
For many parents, the way out is the purchase of a sofa with a circuit cover. As a rule, such models are equipped with cotton covers that can be washed in a washing machine. The fabric is harmless to the baby and at the same time can be presented in a wide variety of colors.
A large sofa, which could well become part of the living room, is often installed in the children's room. In the room of a newborn, such a piece of furniture can become a necessity and serve as a greasy place for one of the parents, keeping a “watch” at the cradle of the baby. In the room of a grown child, such a sofa can serve as a resting place during a visit of friends and become a haven for overnight stay of late guests. If the space of the room allows, then the installation of a sofa of usual sizes (and maybe design) can be more than justified, especially if there is not one child in the room, but two or more.
Sofa Place
Very often, to save the usable space of the children's room, parents decide to install an attic bed. In the lower part of this design there is enough space for arranging a small sofa. Some people decide to equip a workplace in the lower tier, but it is obvious that in such a space there will be insufficient natural light and the child will constantly have to use a table lamp. To relax on the couch, the general lighting of the room will be enough.
Depending on the size of the attic bed and, accordingly, the space under it, you can arrange more than one and two small sofas located opposite each other. In the lower part of such structures, storage systems can be equipped, which, as you know, are not numerous.
The location of the sofa near one of the walls of the room is the most common layout option. Obviously, the main purpose of distributing furniture in the children's room is to free as many square meters as possible for games, sports and creativity. The task is complicated if two or three children live in the room. In this case, the bunk bed can be supplemented with a sofa with a folding mechanism, which will serve as a berth for one of the children.
If the child’s room has a TV, then the sofa is usually located near one of the walls and opposite the video zone. The optimal distance from the TV to the child’s seat is 2.5-3 m.Most often, children's sofas are of small height, which is due to the safety of the child (if he falls, then from a small height). This fact must be taken into account when positioning the TV so that the child sitting on a low couch does not have to turn his head up to watch cartoons.
If in the adult bedroom we install a small ottoman at the foot of the bed, then in the children's room a compact sofa can take its place. Crouching on such a sofa, the child will be more comfortable dressing and shoes.
Sofas for children's rooms are so low that they can be installed even against walls with window openings - the design will not interfere with the spread of natural light. Such a layout can be useful for small rooms with a shortage of usable space. but do not push the sofa close to radiators.
In the spacious room of the children's room, the sofa can zone the space and separate the segment of games from the resting place. In this case, he does not need to be located against the wall. Such a layout can be successful both when using a conventional model, and when installing an angular sofa.
Wide range of models
Nowadays, the assortment of furniture for children's rooms is so wide that parents and small future owners of sofas can easily get lost. If you provide an opportunity for a child to choose upholstered furniture for his room, then most likely he will choose a bright model, with a colorful print or stylized as a fairy-tale hero, a small animal or any type of transport. But for parents, the quality of materials (and most often for sofas that look like big soft toys, it is low) and the dimensions of the model, which should not easily fit into the room's capabilities, but also meet the requirements of ergonomics and ease of use, are much more important.
Many parents like the frameless models of sofas and armchairs, made in a modular modification. Less frame parts (or lack thereof) - fewer reasons for breakage. But it is obvious that such pieces of furniture are suitable only for sitting; you cannot sleep on them. A corner sofa made of several blocks will provide the maximum possible number of seats, and the space in the room will take a little.
The sofa, or rather its original resemblance, can be made by yourself - on the console, standing on the supports, put a soft backing and ensure the softness of the “back” with the help of several pillows. Of course, you won’t be able to sleep on such a sofa, but in the lower part you can build shelves or cells for storing toys, books or sports equipment.
If the space of the children's room and the budget for the arrangement allow, then even the most original ways of creating a soft recreation area and games can be realized. The following structures can hardly be called sofas, but one thing is obvious - children will be delighted with such soft cells, where you can retire, but at the same time remain in the zone of hearing and visibility of other children or adults.
The sofa can also be played by a large pouf of arbitrary shape, mounted on a wall equipped with soft panels. Such a soft corner can become not only a favorite place for privacy of your baby, but also a highlight of the interior, raising its level of uniqueness.
