Decoupage: original plate decoration ideas
Decoupage for many years has been very popular in many countries. Nevertheless, in Russia he was appreciated only now. For beginners, we note that this technique involves decorating dishes, furniture, bags and other items using various pictures, eggshells and other materials. If you are interested in such a direction, then read on, and you will find out how in just a few hours you can transform even the simplest plate.
Reverse decoupage technique
In this case, we suggest using the reverse decoupage technique. This means that you need to decorate the plate not from the inside, but from the back. The rest of the process is practically no different from the classic version.
Necessary materials:
- clear glass plate;
- sandpaper;
- decoupage paper or napkin with a pattern;
- acrylic gold outline;
- varnish;
- brushes or sponges;
- acrylic paint in white and gold color;
- alcohol;
- craquelure varnish.
First, degrease the surface of the plate with alcohol.
From paper for decoupage or napkin, carefully, with light movements, we tear out the necessary part with a picture. If you cut the workpiece with scissors, then the transition from the background to the picture itself will be too obvious.
Turn the plate over and apply a picture to it. It is better to make sure several times that you have made the right choice and only after that we proceed to the next stage.
Glue the picture with a varnish and a brush.
Please note that the paper is very thin, so it is almost transparent. To solve this problem, we suggest applying a layer of white acrylic paint and wait until it dries.
Gently apply a golden outline along the edge of the plate.
We apply craquelure varnish to empty space without a pattern.
After it dries, apply white paint on top with a sponge. In the process of drying, it will begin to crack.
The next step is to apply golden paint. It will be visible through the cracks.
It is also necessary to apply varnish to better fix the result.
We process the surface of the plate with sandpaper and then apply another layer of white acrylic paint.
After drying, apply the last layer of varnish, distribute it with a sponge and leave the plate until completely dry.
The result is a charming shabby chic plate.
Original decoupage plate design
In the work you will need:
- alcohol;
- plate;
- PVA glue;
- napkin with a pattern;
- acrylic paint and primer;
- cotton pad;
- sponge;
- glossy varnish;
- crackle;
- bitumen wax;
- sandpaper;
- brushes;
- oil pastel;
- bitumen remover.
First, we treat the surface of the plate with alcohol, after which we apply acrylic soil with a sponge. This should be done in two layers and left to dry.
We process the surface with sandpaper or a special sandpaper so that it is smoother.
Apply acrylic paint to the entire surface and dry for several hours.
The next step is to apply crackle.
Using a brush or sponge, paint the plate with milk acrylic paint.
The result is small cracks. If there are bumps on the surface, then it is better to process it with sandpaper. After that, we tear off the picture for decor from a napkin. Separate the lower layers, leaving only color. Glue it to the plate with a brush and PVA glue. After that, leave until completely dry.
Gently with your fingers we apply several shades of pastel on a plate and leave it for at least two hours.
We proceed to the design of the edge of the plate with acrylic paint.
We apply varnish in two layers to fix the result.
If desired, you can make the picture on the plate a little warmer. To do this, you need bitumen wax.It should be applied with a soft lint-free cloth. Surplus can be removed using a special tool.
After this stage, the plate needs to be covered with a layer of varnish again. It is also very important to leave it no less than a day, so that all layers are fixed. The result is a beautiful decorative plate.
Egg shell decoupage
For the decoration of an egg shell plate you will need:
- plate;
- PVA glue;
- dry eggshell;
- contour paint;
- brushes;
- sponges;
- white acrylic paint;
- Oil paint;
- acrylic lacquer;
- pigment concentrate;
- spray gun with water;
- rubber roller;
- alcohol;
- cotton pad;
- file.
We process the outside of the plate with alcohol. Paint the edges with white acrylic paint. After drying, varnish for fixing.
Exfoliate the napkin and leave the layer with the pattern. We take out the necessary piece. Put it face up on the file and spray water on it. Stretch the drawing so that it is even. We put a plate on top, turn it over and draw it on the surface with a rubber roller. Due to this, it is very easy to remove air from under the napkin. We remove the file and apply glue with a brush.
On the reverse side we apply varnish, and after a couple of hours several layers of white acrylic paint.
We clean the eggshell as necessary and dry. On the part of the plate we apply glue, apply the shell and press it with your fingers. Due to this, it breaks evenly enough, but if you want, you can move it in any direction. Thus we cover the surface of the plate. Leave it overnight until completely dry.
We paint in white paint in two layers. Then apply varnish and leave for several hours. Apply pigment concentrate in different shades. This is best done with a sponge.
Mix the remaining paint, add white. Dip the sponge in the paint and apply it to the plate with pressing movements.
We apply oil paint on a napkin or cloth and overwrite the cracks. Coat the surface with varnish.
Using contour paints, we apply a bitmap pattern to the surface of the plate. And of course, apply a layer of varnish. The result is a bright, but at the same time very beautiful plate.
There is another way to decorate eggshell plates using decoupage technique, for which you will need:

- eggshell;
- alcohol;
- water;
- acrylic paints;
- brushes and sponges;
- napkins;
- palette;
- varnish;
- PVA glue;
- Toothpicks
- scissors.
First, degrease the surface of the plate with alcohol. Apply glue to the surface and spread the shell on top of it.
If necessary, break large pieces with a toothpick.
We leave the plate for several hours, after which we work with the sides.
We cut or tear out the necessary part of the picture from a napkin.
We cover the plate with the selected shade of paint and leave for several hours.
Separate the top layer of the napkin and glue it on the selected area of the plate. For this you need glue, water and a brush. You can also use a sponge.
We decorate the drawing with gold paint if necessary.
We cover the plate with varnish in several layers and leave for a day. As you can see, depending on the chosen shade, the plate looks completely different.
